24.01.2022 Critical Stages Touring is thrilled to announce the launch of a new playwriting program in partnership with the UK’s Paines Plough: Come To Where I Am - Austral...ia We're inviting Australian-based writers to create a new 10 minute story that could be made into a short video postcard performed by the author a snapshot of what it is like to live in their part of the country right now. They may be autobiographical or new works of fiction, and should reflect what is special to them about the character of their hometown. A writer’s fee is attached to each selected work. Plays will be streamed on the Critical Stages Website and made available on the Paines Plough site also. It is intended for the works to live beyond their digital streams with live performances to be staged across Australia when restrictions are lifted. We believe this project will have long-lasting interest as an online artistic record of this extraordinary year and a digital map of regional Australia for audiences around the country, and around the world. 'Come To Where I Am - Australia' will invite audiences to travel, virtually, at a time when visiting these communities is impossible. Find out all the details, and how to submit an EOI, at http://criticalstages.com.au/artists/

18.01.2022 So thrilled to launch this project today. Between 2-5 July, 50 fearless and inspiring new short works from some of Australia’s best playwrights will be simultan...eously livestreamed by more than 30 performing arts organisations from across Australia. At a time when a pandemic has forced reflection and change, 50 playwrights have responded to questions that get to the heart of where our nation is and where it might go. These stories are postcards addressed to Dear Australia. Playwriting Australia invited 25 theatre organisations from across Australia to each nominate two playwrights. PWA then commissioned these 50 playwrights to each write a short monologue, which were then filmed by 50 extraordinary actors, many in their own homes. Grouped over three nights, these 50 postcards are a unique account of these times and a striking moment of national celebration and reflection. A Dear Australia panel discussion will be broadcast from the Joan Sutherland Theatre by the Sydney Opera House on Saturday 4 July at 7pm AEST as part of its Digital Season. The scripts of the Dear Australia monologues will published by Australian Plays and will be available Monday 6 July on their website.
