23.01.2022 Lately I have looking at photos of jewellery that I made last year at school and I found photos of these 'water earrings'. I called them water earrings because they were made using a traditional Japanese technique for making ingots that involved dropping metal into water: After the metal has been made molten in a crucible, the liquid is poured into a pot of near-boiling hot water. A taut cotton sling sitting at the bottom of the pot catches the metal and turns it into an ingo...t that resembles a stone. These earrings were originally a little smooth square ingot that (when rolled out) bubbled at the surface, most likely because I used recycled silver that contained some impurities. But I loved it, so I hammered the ingot to increase their water bubbling effect. The shape and texture was so sweet I decided they needed nothing but to be cut in half and have some posts added. 23.01.2022 My sister Samira modelling for the first time (+) me making fashion photography for the first time = lots of laughing Fine and Sterling silver and Shibuichi long hoop earrings

22.01.2022 Home studio work continues. I love soldering on my window sill when I can open all the windows and doors and let the fresh air in. Thank goodness for Spring!

22.01.2022 Another water ingot I made in 2019 (process seen in previous video). I couldn’t bring myself to roll down this Shibuichi ingot because it looks like a little foot. I called it ‘my soul’ so now I definitely can’t squash it! Shibuichi is a Japanese alloy made from 25 per cent fine silver and 75 per cent copper. It can be heat treated to create multiple colours, however, in its natural state is pale pink in colour. Very sweet.

20.01.2022 Sterling hoops wrapped in fine silver sheet/ polished shiny for extra bling

18.01.2022 Fine silver, 24ct gold foil and Sterling Silver earrings. The gold foil has been fused to the fine silver sheet using a Korean jewellery technique called Kuem-Boo. The technique involves heating the fine silver sheet and then burnishing the foil onto the silver, while trying not to burn your fingers!

18.01.2022 This is the process of making a water ingot. Metal is made molten and then quickly poured into a pot of near boiling water where a taut cotton sling catches the ingot in the bottom.

11.01.2022 Round objects | raffia, emu feather, alpaca, merino and mohair wool, fine silver and cotton thread.

11.01.2022 Apologies for changing the name of this page without warning! This year I have slowly been working on a brand dedicated to jewellery. JUULIA is the Estonian and Finnish spelling of my name (although sometimes Julia is also spelt the English way in Estonia! confusing!). Phonetically it would be pronounced 'yuulia'. While I will continue to work under my name, I thought it would be fun to create JUULIA. I intend to post both JUULIA jewellery and other artwork on this page. Thanks for sticking with me!

07.01.2022 Some Saturday jazz with these cocktail earrings. Sterling silver linked hoops, wrapped with oxidized fine silver and 24ct gold foil

05.01.2022 9ct yellow gold wrap ring. I love how the light hits the textured dip at the top. This ring has masculine-feminine yin-yang energy
