18.01.2022 There’s cold, and then there is ‘mixing 20kgs of semi frozen venison mince by hand’ cold. Thought I’d never be able to pick my nose again after that night! #damnneargotfrostbite #venisonkabana #venisonsmallgoods #aussiebowhunter #bowhunting #venison #sambardeer #sambar #sambarhunting #deer #whitetail #whitetailhunting #paddocktoplate #finedining #homemade

16.01.2022 Freshly mounted fallow. Slight adjustments will be made as it dries, then the finish and painting work takes place. After all this it’s off to the clients house, for them to enjoy!

16.01.2022 Good luck to everyone heading out during this years rut. Keep your broad heads sharp, and your rifles sighted in!

15.01.2022 Velvet covered antlers take some work to preserve, and this needs to be done with in a short timeframe to stop the velvet from rotting. Contact us at JV taxidermy ASAP if you find yourself with an early season antlers that you’d like to keep in velvet

08.01.2022 Wild dogs must be savage where this stag was taken....cause he had no front legs!! Not a perfect repair job, but a good save I think

07.01.2022 Had to stop and get a pic of this sunset in Montana. Fresh snow on the ‘crazies’ mountain range, while we were chasing elk #aussiebowhunter #bowhunting #elkhunting #elk #bugle #elkbugle #thecrazies #montana #montanalife #montanahunting #deerhunting #whitetail #hunting #whitetailhunting

06.01.2022 With the fallow rut just about to kick off, make sure you know the correct cuts to cape your deer out. Cut 1 runs up the spine to the back of the head, stopping about 100mm from the back of the antlers, or as far as is needed to remove the head. Cut 2 goes around the entire deer, and should always be atleast 150mm behind the front leg. Aim for the middle of the deer and you will have plenty Cuts 3 and 4 are around each front leg, at the first joint or below it. ... And please take your time, extra holes from poor knife work take time to fix, and kilograms of extra meat left on can cause tanning issues. Get the cape off and cooled as soon as you can, then get it to your taxidermist! DO NOT put salt on until the face has been caped out and ears, nose and lips are all turned.
