23.01.2022 Quick tip for anyone currently training at home with minimal equipment. By attaching a pair of lifting straps to the bar, you have yourself an alternative to squatting with a safety squat bar. This alternative is great for anyone with shoulder injuries or anyone who simply lacks the mobility to back squat. This idea came from watching an old California Strength video of Max Aita attempting to squat 260kg for 5 x 5. If you haven’t already do yourself a favour and go check it out.

12.01.2022 Copenhagen Adductors Copenhagen’s are some of the most underused exercises. They have been shown to significantly reduce the prevalence of groin problems and increase eccentric hip adduction strength and should be considered for most team sport athletes especially Footballers A simple progression is to move from a short to long lever (as shown), this increases torque making the exercise more difficult ... Some things to look out for when coaching this movement are hip flexion / extension (bending at the hips) and lateral rotation of the bracing leg

12.01.2022 The ability to jump and land efficiently in all directions is an important aspect of most sports. Incorporating this into a program helps to expose athletes to these movements but can also help to highlight deficiencies within movement. A couple years ago I was lucky enough to attend one of Dan Pfaff’s seminars where he talked about the great ability that athletes have to hide deficiencies in movement when moving forwards in a linear direction. And therefore by having ...athletes move in novel directions, coaches can pinpoint weaknesses and address them accordingly. Here are examples of some exercises that may be useful to include into a warm up or movement prep to look for weaknesses relating to ankle and knee stability (shown in video 2), landing mechanics (landing with slight knee valgus, and ankle pronation in video 3) etc. Video 1 - lateral hurdle hop Video 2 - lateral bound Video 3 - backwards double leg jump

08.01.2022 This time last year my dad was diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy and pulmonary embolism leaving him unable to perform most everyday tasks (walking, eating, sitting and standing). Since, his outlook on health has changed and he’s taken huge steps to better himself in that regard The first 4 videos show his training as of late. Huge improvements have been made across all components of health and fitness. He’s done this by completing 2-3 sessions per week prioritising pro...gressive resistance training focusing on foundational movement patterns and by incorporating some light conditioning work to build some capacity The last video shows him in October last year completing BW box squats on his first session out of hospital which he clearly found difficult (listen out for the breathing) and highlights the progress he’s made since Still plenty of work to do including improving mobility and movement competency however super proud of how far he’s come and looking forward to further improvements in the future
