24.01.2022 People often think photoshoots are for specific memories - that theres an occasion like a birth or a big event, and so we should mark the occasion with a shoot. The other common misconception is that theyre for the young. Not true Photographs are one of the very few things in life that become more valuable with time. They remind you of your youth, of external beauty, of growth and simply a keepsake for your family to come.... One of the biggest regrets I have is not photographing my grandparents enough. They had one of the most beautiful loves Ive ever seen. Sadly, theyve both passed and whilst Ive got beautiful memories of them on their wedding day, or happy snaps here & there, but I really wish Id taken the time to photograph them together, as the people I knew. Please dont forget to capture your life. We easily blow a couple of hundred on getting our hair done or new clothes or bags, but forget about capturing our life. Please learn from my mistake

24.01.2022 What is the difference between a photoshoot with me and someone else? Im not a cookie cutter - every shoot is not the same. Each client gets a bespoke service. Personalisation - your shoot is personalised to you, your location, your colours - whether light & airy or darker & moody.... I never have a full schedule on the day of your shoot. I do this purposely, so were never tight for time. The reality is, life happens and sometimes things dont go to plan. Take this photo for example - the bubs were loving the beach, but they were so distracted. What started as a standard shoot turned into over an hour and a half. You cant tell babies were time restricted, please do cute things so we can get the shot. Id rather work a little bit over time & edit a little bit more so you get what youre after, than finish on time and have you disappointed, or feeling like you didnt get the most out of your shoot. I offer a premium service, because this is what I would want for my own photoshoot

22.01.2022 It’s been a time since I’ve posted about me. I say me, but really it’s ‘us.’ Us being me and my partner in crime, Cameron. This is us (I’m Laity). It looks like a hard name, but it’s really not - think Katie with an L my barista still can’t get it though - Lacie? Leighton? I once even got called Leapy and an old netball coach couldn’t get it right, so she started calling me latte... Weird name aside, this is us. I’ve been photographing for my business since 2010, th...ough it’s taken so many twists and turns in that time, it almost feels like a completely new business. Cam doesn’t work for the company, but he supports, helps, mentors and does so much BTS work with me, it almost feels like he does. We met 7 years ago, working in the building industry. I said to one of my colleagues I’d never date someone from work...famous last words In 12 weeks, we tie the knot at @pullmanbunkerbay. Doing this shoot was one of the hardest things we’ve ever done. I often make Cam model for me (though he rarely lets me post the photos ) so he’s kinda used to the camera, but I’m about as awkward as can be in front of the camera. I actually asked our photographer if I could take the photos and she could play me It’s all about trust though, and luckily we have a pretty good egg in @mergephotography who made us feel super comfortable and look not too shabby So that us Tell me something about you

21.01.2022 Where should you do your engagement photoshoot? There’s no right or wrong here. I always ask my couples if there’s a location special to you - perhaps it’s where you met, somewhere you like to walk a furry friend, maybe it’s where your lover proposed, or simply just your happy place. But if you can’t think of a location like this, or you simply want to do it in a completely different location for you, that’s ok too. ... 21.01.2022 PRICE INCREASE I’ve been photographing for 10 years this year. For a lot of that time, I’ve kept my prices the same. I’ve been able to do this by running a pretty lean ship ... I’m really proud of this it’s something I learned early on in business and I think it’s served me pretty darn well. But the reality is, that my insurances, my subscriptions, the purchasing of new products etc are forever on the rise. And I’ve realised that I need to increase my prices, particularly if I want to continue to provide you with the high level of service that I do, as well as to keep myself in business. So from October 1st, I’ll be raising my prices. I hope that you can understand this comes from a place of love. I love what I do so irrevocably, that I cannot (will not) stop. I still have afterpay / payment plans available for those that would like the freedom to pay it off. I do realise though, that not everyone will be able to afford these new prices. I completely understand if my existing clients feel they can no longer book with me. Dog lover, bit of a coffee snob (long black with honey dont knock it til you try it), chilled, laid back photographer If Im not at home editing, you can usually catch me at the beach, the gym (doing weights) or down south, either photographing the fiancé surfing or hanging out at a cool café.... 18.01.2022 A very wise friend & client recently said to me remember to fill your cup, because you cant pour from an empty cup and honestly nothing has ever resonated more with me. I am terrible with constantly doing - I have this feeling if Im not DOING, then Im not productive. But part of productivity is taking time out, reading, having slow mornings and feeding your soul.... In the last two weeks I have really made a conscious effort to slow down, to READ - something I havent done in years (but have always been avid reader), and to either turn my phone screen over or to have it in a completely different room altogether when with friends / family. Its not been easy, but the rewards are already showing themself. I can see my creativity coming out to play again, that Im less impatient, that I really am present when talking to people. I urge you to try it for yourself - set a challenge and commit to a week of change. And if that week feels right, commit to two, to a month, to 3 months and so on. If covid taught us anything it was so take things slow & appreciate what we have - dont let the fact WA is recovering let you get lost in the noise See more

16.01.2022 Why did I stop shooting weddings? Its something Ive been asked a lot over the years. Honestly, its a little bit personal, but I think its important to be REAL on here, rather than just show a highlight reel of me living my best life. Ive always had anxiety, even at a really young age. What I used to think was a tummy ache was actually my stomach in knots with anxiety. ... As I got older, it got worse + worse. Add in a wedding, where most photographers feel a little bit nervous, and I would be a wreck leading up to it. For weeks, I would be knotted in my stomach. It affected my sleep and my life in general. Eventually, I realised it wasnt fair on my clients and it wasnt fair on me, so I stopped. In fact, I stopped photography altogether for a period of 6-8 months. It was only when I met my now fiancé and we went on dates, exploring new places together that I slowly started to bring my camera out again. As Ive got older, Ive learned how to deal with it, and face it head on. It doesnt mean I dont still feel anxious, but now I have techniques I use to manage it. In late 2019, I decided to start photographing weddings again, and early this year I had my first one back. It was such a joyous moment for me. Not only were the couple absolute legends, but I didnt experience the same anxiety that I once did. Now COVID has messed up most of our plans, but I cant wait for the next wedding! 16.01.2022 RAW FILES As photographers, every now and again we receive requests from clients for our raw files. Raw files are unedited photos theyve come straight from camera.... I was trying to think of the easiest way to explain this, when another photographer mentioned its like a raw steak Imagine you go to a restaurant, and you request a raw steak. You ask the chef please dont marinate it, dont cook it, just give me the steak exactly as it comes. Now if you get a good piece of meat, you could probably make it taste OK yourself. Certainly not amazing, but good enough. But would you be happy with that? The magic comes in the entire process from the professional chef. The chef cuts its, marinates it and cooks it to perfection. They deliver it on plate with sides and condiments that perfectly compliment your steak. That raw steak has now gone from something good to something incredible. You leave the restaurant on a high. You tell your friends, your family about this FANTASTIC steak. Your friends and family visit the restaurant and taste for themselves this INCREDIBLE steak. That is exactly why, as photographers we do not supply the raw files. When you ask for raw files, youre effectively asking for an unfinished product. The magic of the shoot not only happens ON the shoot, but AFTER the shoot. Its the hours poured into editing removing distractions, taking out flyaway hairs, tweaking the lighting, enhancing colours. A camera cant always capture everything, so its up to us to ensure your photos are creative perfection. Whew that was long. 13.01.2022 What exactly is a photoshoot with me like? Firstly, I am not a cookie cutter photographer. Its not about my colours, my location or my photoshoot. This shoot is all about YOU. The location is chosen by you and I generally ask what sort of a vibe you like (if you havent told me already). If youre not sure about location, I usually ask about locations that are special to you - perhaps where youve met a significant other, somewhere you might like to walk your furry friend, ...or simply your happy place. This all happens in our initial chats. I talk a lot about living for the in between moments or I fade into the background, but what exactly does that mean? I always try and relax you on our shoot. I usually start off by suggesting we go for a walk, or have you walk towards me with your significant other/s (S/O). This is because it doesnt feel like shooting. In that moment, youre generally walking, talking and maybe even laughing with your S/O. Those natural moments, where youre just doing your thang - THATS what I live for. Fading into the background doesnt mean I expect you to lead the shoot. Firstly - how uncomfortable It means Ill disappear without disappearing. I may ask you questions, tell you to whisper your fav fruit/veg (in a dirty voice) into your S/Os ear, or even just put your bub on your shoulders. Its a gentle, non intrusive way of getting the most out of our time together. Thats a little bit of insight into a shoot with me. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out

11.01.2022 What to expect on a shoot with me: I dont take myself too seriously. Along with making fun of myself, I might tell you to sexily whisper your fav veg in your lovers ear. Im a laid back, chilled photographer and love making my shoots feel this vibe. It doesnt mean I dont take my work seriously, or that your shoot will be dis-organised, but it does mean well have a laugh while doing it.... Im not your photographer that poses every photo, or works off screenshots of someone elses work. Definitely give me ideas you may have for your shoot, but posing every photo inauthentically based off someone elses shoot isnt what Im about. I DO capture your unique story. That means bringing you out of your shell, discreetly leading (lets take a walk up here / tell me about X moment) and genuinely letting you guys do your thing in a fun, authentic way. It means capturing the magic of you & your fam / lover in a way that is truly you (and not a copy of someone elses moment). If that sounds like your kinda vibe, gimmie a below

I still remember being 18 and photographing a family friends wedding, hearing his vows which were particularly beautiful and hoping I’d find someone I was that in love with. Fast forward 10 years, I found someone even better than I could have imagined and it’s finally our turn ... 08.01.2022 A Botox appointment can take between 20-30 mins, and cost around $200-$400 or even more. It will last typically 3-4 months. Hair appointments can be 2-4 hours and cost between $300-$500 and will last approx. 8-10 weeks before needing new colour done. We regularly hand over the money for these, sometimes without a second thought. ... Photos? A session will take 30-60 mins, with post production editing taking 2-10 hours (or 25-30 for a wedding) and will last a lifetime. These photos will take you back to a moment, they’ll envoke emotion, maybe making you laugh, cry, or even a mix of both. It’s time we appreciated the people that give us something that will last forever. That our kids will look back on, that will help tell our story. Kudos to all the photographers out there grinding away, yet still feeling they need to prove their worth

When covid hit, we imagined QLD, but again, covid threw a spanner in the works. Honeymooning in Denmark definitely wasn’t on the agenda, but I’m so glad ...things worked out how they did. This has been such a beautiful trip, connecting in nature and switching off. We’ve been as present as we’ve ever been with ourselves, with each other and with nature. I hope we never forget the lessons from covid; that having the freedom to travel our own state and visit our family and friends - to simply get MARRIED! is a far greater gift than any material things or overseas trips

06.01.2022 If I can give you one piece of advice for your wedding day, it’s to not forget the boys! So many couples consider the brides getting ready photos, but forget the groom. I’ve never had a groom disappointed, or regret getting his prep photos yet - in fact most say they’re so glad they got them done, as they don’t have any photos with the boys, their dad, brother, etc. So if you can spare an extra 45 to an hour, DONOTFORGETTHEBOYS... 02.01.2022 What to expect on a shoot with me: I don’t take myself too seriously. Along with making fun of myself, I might tell you to sexily whisper your fav veg in your lovers ear. I’m a laid back, chilled photographer and love making my shoots feel this vibe. It doesn’t mean I don’t take my work seriously, or that your shoot will be dis-organised, but it does mean we’ll have a laugh while doing it.... I’m not your photographer that poses every photo, or works off screenshots of someone else’s work. Definitely give me ideas you may have for your shoot, but posing every photo inauthentically based off someone else’s shoot isn’t what I’m about. I DO capture your unique story. That means bringing you out of your shell, discreetly leading (let’s take a walk up here / tell me about X moment) and genuinely letting you guys do your thing in a fun, authentic way. It means capturing the magic of you & your fam / lover in a way that is truly you (and not a copy of someone else’s moment). If that sounds like your kinda vibe, gimmie a below

I always ask my couples if theres a location special to you - perhaps its where you met, somewhere you like to walk a furry friend, maybe its where your lover proposed, or simply just your happy place. But if you cant think of a location like this, or you simply want to do it in a completely different location for you, thats ok too. ...
