25.01.2022 Millie is learning what "leave it" means, we build this association to mean, leave the _____ and come get a reward. Tonight Millie leaves a piece of high value Fritz when cued and returns to Lyn to receive her chicken reinforcement. In the end choosing all by herself to "leave" the Fritz. Super work !
25.01.2022 Sakura and Teddy learning to value the "Watch" cue at their first class yesterday.
25.01.2022 Basil 4 months, learning to ignore the fun environment, walk with his Guardians and catch up when distracted. Adding some change of direction and short pace change and ending with a lovely sit. Well done
23.01.2022 Spencer shows how his walking "close" in a least distracting environment has developed so well and with great attention, his guardian can now take about 20 steps between reinforcing. The next stage will be taking these skills outside, but with this, Spencer will be distracted by the birds, cars, sounds, smells, other people and other dogs. Ryan will need to go back a few steps to enable Spencer to choose and remember the skills he learnt of where to walk. No force, No fear, N...o intimidation, No pulling. See more
23.01.2022 Bikes going past, 2 dogs doing off lead training for - attention, calmness, sit, distraction behaviours, recalls - Basil a young adolescent Ausiedoodle 7months with usual boundless energy, shows us he is learning ! Shadow a young Kelpie X, is a settling influence for Basil and also helps with energy output
22.01.2022 Millie, just a happy little Scotty Terrier

22.01.2022 Thankyou so much to these SUPERDOOPER-WORKERBEE PEOPLE !! Todays Jobs completed were: whippersnippering of tieup pens, fence lines, around sheds, 3 Gates rehung and new latches attached, 2 gates painted..... (but then it rained)... Thanks Pete, Liz, Amanda, Clare, Ali, Megan and Wendy ! Next Working Bee will be held on Sunday October 11th hope to see you there
22.01.2022 Caitlin is doing a great job with Georgie as she teaches her to understand the "stay" cue (word and signal). Caitlin has learnt not to correct Georgie as she learns, which can result in the dog becoming anxious. You will see as Georgie gets up from her stay that Caitlin goes back a step reinforces the cue, then moves on with the training and Georgie continues learning her stay. Great training Caitlin !
21.01.2022 Spencer has graduated Congratulations to Spencer and his family, Kasey, Shania and Ryan, all three guardians have helped Spencer grow in confidence and skills by practicing regularly with the fear free teaching methods we use at K9 Connections. Great work everyone !
20.01.2022 Dogs communicate all the time, just like us ! Understanding their language helps with understanding our dogs needs, fears, comforts and joys.
20.01.2022 Be Aware of the BALL and similar activities !
17.01.2022 Training isn't just about sit and stay. Nearing the end of another successful training session. Basil and Shadow are winding down and share a drink. See young Basil try for one more play instigation ! And responds beautifully with Shadows polite, "no more" communication.... Great training Instructor Ali and Guardians Mikaela and Dan. See more

15.01.2022 A real life situation experienced by a highly experienced and professional trainer with her young Boxer puppy. The calmness helped to stem a possible nasty situation. Peta Clarke explains her plan should this ever happen.
15.01.2022 Small dedicated 3some working hard at our working bee today. Next date as advised is Oct 11th, please come and support your club.
15.01.2022 Freya 4months is attached to the 10m long line, using some of the skills taught inside earlier in classes where there was little distraction, tonight we have taken these skills outside where there is a lot of distraction, by using the long line this allows Freya to choose to walk with her guardian, as Freya's understanding grows and more steps are gained, less food will be used, but in the beginning as we develop Freya's muscle memory this is an important part of this stage. No tugging, No pulling, No force. Love this way of training ! Well done Mel and Freya.
14.01.2022 Thanks to Heart Connection Dogs for sharing this.
14.01.2022 Fiona De Rosa from Balancing Act in Adelaide shares her knowledge and ideas on creating an enriching garden at home for your dog. Great ideas.
14.01.2022 Georgie is attached to the 10m long line, she is learning to choose to walk with her guardian, this method of using high reinforcement helps Georgie's muscle memory to absorb the patterning. Over time she will choose this as a rewarding position, we then start fading off the small pieces of food, maintance will develop as she matures. Well done Caitlin and Georgie
13.01.2022 mmm.....PUPPY BITING !

11.01.2022 Learning to stay when your guardian moves away can be tricky for a young pup, Mel has been practising with Freya so she is now starting to feel comfortable as Mel moves around, super practicing !

09.01.2022 Matt and Teddy at their first class. Teddy is only 10months and has already grown into a large Dog ! Today they are learning several new cues. 1. the value of food and how to use it to communicate to Teddy. 2. Using a marker word for catching behaviour wanted. 3. Reinforcing position is important.... 4. The value of being calm. 5. Distance is your friend around excitable experiences. 6. Looking at other dogs can be positive, when we work with our dogs, not against them. 7. Positive training works fast. 8. Value of reinforcement is important. 9. Front clip harnesses take the pressure off of the dog and you. 10. With a minimum of only 5 minutes practice a day, results will grow. See more
08.01.2022 Last week we saw Spencer's Guardians take him outside into the distracting environment. As expected the distractions made it hard for him. This week we see what practice and choice does ! Spencer proudly walks alongside Shania, both ends of the lead are still in the early stages of learning, but look at the great job they are doing
08.01.2022 Millie has learnt many manners over her time in Puppy class. Not to grab at food is just one of her new skills, super work

08.01.2022 A stubborn dog? No such thing. Find a motivator, split the criteria, change the layout, change the reinforcer, adjust the environment, modify the antecedent arrangement. Do want you need to do to make your dog feel safe enough to participate or to make a guess at the task.
07.01.2022 Hello Sunday! Science Says: In this new study, researchers fitted 27 dogs with GPS trackers and cameras and recorded several hundred trips over 3 years, more th...an 600 trials. In 170 of these trips, the dogs stopped before they turned back and ran for about 20 meters along a north-south axis. When the animals did this, they tended to get back to the owner via a more direct route than when they didn’t (when they were tracking). Whenever possible, a dog was taken to a part of a forest they had never been to, so that they couldn’t rely on familiar landmarks. It is possible that the dogs run along a north-south axis to figure out which way they are, implying that dogs can use the reference to the magnetic compass to figure out the most direct route home. https://elifesciences.org/articles/55080 See more

07.01.2022 Take a note from these two on dog signals and communication. Pay attentiom to what you see and hear, look carefully ...... Brilliant communication, from both dogs ! !
06.01.2022 Manners are still important even for a mini size dog. Perfectly modelled by Molly, Hamish and Douglas during their Puppy class.
05.01.2022 Peta and Sakura at their first class. Learning several cues. 1. the value of food and how to use it to communicate to Sakura. 2. Using a marker word for catching behaviour wanted. 3. 03.01.2022 A lovely breezy day at the beach, watch ya skirts Bindi !
03.01.2022 I had the pleasure of Keiko in my Puppy classes over the past 8 weeks. Today was a pleasure to walk with her on her last day of Puppy classes Keiko's guardian Cathy loves to take her on sniffy walks to enrich her brain and happiness whilst encouraging a calm and settled pup, these skills are developing nicely and will benefit Keiko as she grows into maturity over the next 18months. Cathy says she will continue to use a long line such as this one, which gives Keiko plenty of safe freedom, great for loose lead walking and recall practice too. Cathy and Keiko also enjoy closer walks such as we show here. Great learning Keiko and Cathy !
