21.01.2022 Hey Canberra people, For those wanting to attend the protest at the US Embassy this weekend, here is some info to assist. National Land in the Parliamentary Zon...e and the diplomatic areas have special rules applied, so if you are planning a protest, although you do NOT need formal approval to be there, you MUST make sure you are not creating a situation that can be considered a threat to the embassy. Stay a respectful distance away, do NOT allow yourself to block the roads or entry to the Embassy, please do NOT step foot on to Embassy property and please, for everyone's sake, do NOT harass, yell at, intimidate or assault any embassy staff. Your right to be heard is important. Do not allow your voice to be drowned out by the negative response you will receive if you lose focus of your goals and instead resort to anger or violence. If you are approached by police, remember please that so long as you are peaceful, the officer must show just cause for any request to search or detaim you. Get the officer's name and badge number, and if questioned, reply with "I will not speak to you without my lawyer".
