18.01.2022 2020...what a year. For many, 2020 was a tough year. Whilst we were no exception, it was also a year where we took dreams to goals and goals to reality. The year we reached out to customers both globally and locally. In 2020 we made the move and released our first skate boot, the K001. A boot that entered the market at an entry price point but matched the mid level quality boots. We also started work on our second boot, the K002 which will be released soon. We started work on... our first shirt track ice boot that is in the test stages now. We created our KAIROS challenge events which we are hoping to take to another level on 2021. We also started our KAIROS live interviews to reconnect with the past greats of our sport. A nod to the past, inspiring the future. 14.01.2022 KAIROS K001 boot If you haven’t heard, our K001 boot is out and making its way onto skaters feet. Simple, clean, to the point and no BS. We worked hard on this boot so you don’t have to. A boot that is being compared to the $700 price bracket product, coming in at $289. Ridiculous, right?... Honestly, there is a lot to how and why. We could talk about seeing our parents skimp and save to buy us skates or how much we personally spent on skates whilst chasing our dreams. That’s nice, but how does that help you as a skater? Let us tell you what we did to drive our price down for you while making this boot able to compete with heavy weights. We inserted a metal frame in the base which not only means less twist, but less carbon fibre and less resin and less man hours spent. 9 man hours less per boot. That’s massive $ savings. We buy our materials in bulk. We offer this boot in one design only, we bargain hard with our suppliers to get our product at a lower price. 24% lower in fact. 2 piece construction. Some boot manufacturers tout their one piece construction. And that’s cool but it doesn’t add to your skating experience. If we make this boot as a one piece, it adds 14% to the cost due to a labour intensive process. Stitched logos over printed. Having these printed would have added $8 to the price of a boot until we sell 2,500 units at which point it becomes cost neutral. We want to sell that many, but for now, this saves YOU money. More than just a brown box. The box to us is part of the product. It protects your boot, cradles it until it’s attached to your frames and feet. If we add amazing print and materials that are unnecessary, it just adds cost. So our box does what it needs to do. No more, no less. You see, when you’ve watched many companies make boots, you’ve designed products for these companies and tested their products for years, you have a background in business management and worked with some amazing FMCG minds, you think a little differently. 01.01.2022 Speed skating is considered an individual sport and it makes sense. You cross the line first, you win, not your team. But if you study trends in speed skating you’ll see that teams win titles and I’m not talking about team skating. In Australia and across the world, the most titles go to the powerhouse teams. The clubs who act as a team, who bring up their youth while supporting their elite are the ones that tend to win the most titles. The social aspect matters to success as... much as sports physiology or psychology. Maybe more. The mid 90’s in Oz belonged to Morley, Rollerpower, Revolutions, Dandenong. Then Eltham took the top, Joondalup bought WA back to the top, Logan City almost toppled the two of them, along then came Caribbean and now rising up is Sk8House. The thing is, dug underneath the success of all of these clubs and you’ll see one common thread. Not an amazingly advanced training plan, a sport psychogy major, not even an ex-World Champion passing on knowledge, but a group of people who are interested in helping one another toward a common goal and building great friendships along the way. So if you’re running a club and you aren’t taking into account how your members are meshing, review what you’re doing, I promise it’ll reap more rewards than bringing in a high performance coach to improve your training program!
