24.01.2022 I'm really proud of our association with University of the South Pacific (USP) and particularly Vinesh. Kaiviti will be available at Tappoo stores and all USP outlets and by order online through the USP website in a little over a week. Thanks guys
21.01.2022 People whose molecules have at some point been interwoven with mine, I am writing to tell you that on the 5th December this year, my inaugural novel, Kaiviti (from Fiji), comes out. I’m concentrating on a Fiji launch, and the University of the South Pacific is assisting. You know, this message, it takes me back more than three years to the point in my life when I first realised what I think I’ve always known - that I was going to write a book, and that it was going to be a...bout Fiji. After a period of research, I realised that there is a great many books to be written about Fiji - truly, a great many. I don’t think history has remembered Fiji well. It’s not a reflection on the people who have dedicated their lives to preserving it’s records right down to the first ancient storyteller who arrived by canoe in 1200-1300 BC. I think Fiji should be better understood, but that its mysteries, its magic, needs to be carefully preserved, and the thin line between real and magic has been my narrow windy path during the dark hours, before dawn, when this story and I kept each other company. Two years ago, when I first received professional feedback on the initial draft, my assessor, a novelist himself, said, this story wants to be liberated. I think he was implying that it was unfortunate for the story that fate had selected me to do it. Actually, do is such an inappropriate word for writing. I mean to say, to channel it. So I went away, and took a hammer and a mallet to myself, to become a person who can now put his hand on his heart and say, this is the best thing that will ever be channeled through me. So I hope you will love it, or hate it, agree or disagree with the sentiments within it. Either way, I hope you will judge it and reflect upon it. I hope that in some minuscule way it stays with you like it has with me.
19.01.2022 Last night I told our friend Tahu to come down the coast and celebrate with me and my brother Jone (pictured, looking like he got a day pass from Naboro). Tahu said 3 Lasu's is too 1 too many lasu's...Come to think of it it was me that said it. Too much lasu
13.01.2022 Hi all. I thought I'd share the final cover/spine/back of Kaiviti. Because its a little small to see in the picture, the following is a copy of the text on the back cover. Have a good Sunday...It's a great day on the Coral Coast. .............. New to Fiji, seventeen-year-old Sean McDougall makes a peculiar discovery. Superstitious Government Minister, Pio Cavubati, tries to determine what is morally best for the country as it descends into chaos. The beautiful and talented reporter, Leilani Taga, finds herself fighting traditional values as she seeks to gain acceptance in Suva's hedonistic business community. Sugar cane union representative, Das Sharma, realises that refusing to take sides in the building conflict risks alienation from all. Set in Suva and the resort township of Pacific Harbour in 1987, Kaiviti’s diverse characters forge an unlikely alliance to unlock the secret past of the "Sunrise Tabua". ...........
12.01.2022 The jade is in flower and Kaiviti is in production
07.01.2022 I haven’t updated this page for a while! Hopefully many of you already know that Kaiviti (aka the Fijian Lord of the Rings albeit in its own completely original way) is now published and it’s out in Fijian stores. Well, I’ve learnt a lot in the process, did some things right, did plenty of things wrong, and we got there in the end but only just. Sometimes the line between success and failure is very thin...For more details on the last few weeks check my personal facebook ...site search < Blair Robertson Fiji > I’m the one holding the King Charles Spaniel. Everything moved pretty quickly in the end and now the book is available in Tappoo and Prouds stores in Fiji, and also the USP bookshop and USP bookstore website (if not already, then soon). Once we are more established, we’ll take stock and look at options for wider international distribution. However, for those of you based in NZ or Australia or elsewhere abroad, I’ll provide details soon as to how to get a signed copy sent out to you. Thanks in advance! I’ve uploaded a few photos some of which are already on my personal FB page so apologies for the repetition. There’s also an article about the book and about me in the current Mai Life magazine. I haven’t seen it yet because I had to rush off to NZ and now I’m in Australia for Christmas. More magazine articles and reviews are in the pipeline but we’ve decided to break for Christmas and we’ll pick it up in the New Year. The next step is for wider distribution and I’m planning the sequel (it’s also a prequel) and we’re also looking at turning Kaiviti into a script. More details to come. I’m back at our house near Byron Bay in a small beach community called Ocean Shores. The whales have all migrated south for the season and most of the biggest sharks have thankfully followed them down. The beaches out front are vast and deserted, even in the height of summer. I just want to say thanks for your time. You really have no idea how much it means. Merry Christmas /Happy New Year. Best regards, Blair.

03.01.2022 There's a dog in Kaiviti. His name is Meaty Walderberg. When I wrote him in I was always picturing Uri Kurop's dog - that classic fat little pug that lives across the road from Smugglers Cove. I was working from the office at Qaviu yesterday and it was such a fine day and i get a call from my partner Anna at Byron and she said, Doogie (our dog) won't move!!!! I thought for sure a snake bite and she rushed him to the vet and i had all manner of things going through my mind li...ke "spare no expense!!!". Fortunately though when he saw the other dogs in the vet he came to life and started running around with them. Apparently he had hurt his shoulder, nothing more (this is one soft dog, but he's a good long distance runner I'll give him that). He's a sensitive soul our little Doogie and he plays great with our baby, Ryan. I'm so glad he's alive! See more
01.01.2022 Just missed my flight from Wellington to Nadi, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! But I get into Fiji tomorrow and I’ll work from the South Seas Towage office in Suva and then I’ll be back again in December. Fortunately for me I have a work from home arrangement in the energy sector and I spread my time between Australia, Fiji and New Zealand. Because you asked, Joyce, the following passage is the first part of the prologue. It hints at the main plot, which is entirely f...Continue reading
