23.01.2022 We did it! After a long 18 months of chemo, Kak’s had her first day of kindy (still on maintenance chemo and still with her central line still in). I asked Noa how she felt, she said happy but I hope she doesn’t play with my friends in the big part of the school, I asked Sok and he said it was good, I asked Kak’s how her day was and she said it was fun and we didn’t even have to learn. If anyone was to ask me, I would say I was overwhelmed with emotions but mostly proud of ...where she is at from where we started.... her smile, her oversized uniform, her heavy bag that was too heavy to carry and her enthusiasm was the thing that won me over today. I sobbed when I was hugged by family and best friend but I quietly watched her from afar as she played contently and without a care in the world and it made me happy. She had well and truly earned this privilege. I am honoured that we were given this opportunity of a first day of school and forever grateful to my second family- Queanbeyan South that went above and beyond to ensure she was safe and supported..... Today was a day that I have been dreaming about since we were diagnosed back in June 2019 and I am so glad we got to spend it with so many people that care. When we got in the car to go home in true Kak’s form she said to me, Mummy, I was thinking tomorrow I could wear a fancy dress to school. You know like one of my end of year dance concert ones! Oh which my reply was, Kak’s, we are no longer in hospital where fashion is our main priority. You will be rocking that red and black again tomorrow my baby. She smiled and said, Okay mummy. Today, we won the day.....
