25.01.2022 Office opening hours update... KAL Accountants will be closed on a Wednesday going forward. You will still be able to email if you have queries but due to my three children being home for school, I'll be using the extra time to spend on the areas they need help with. Some of you may remember (way back when!) when KAL was closed on a Wednesday in the early days. Let me know if you were on board back in those days ... Thank you for your understanding.

22.01.2022 ATO SCAM ALERT It has come to our attention that there is a new scam email doing the rounds! The email advises that the ATO has made an error in processing previous returns and to click the link, confirm details and you will receive around $220. PLEASE do not click the link or provide any details. The ATO have not issued any such email. Thank you :)

22.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all of our wonderful clients May your New Year be rainy and successful!

22.01.2022 A quick reminder that the enrolment deadline for JobKeeper payments for April and May was extended to 31st May. Be sure to enrol before 31st May to receive the JobKeeper payment for April and May. To be eligible your income must have dropped by 30% or more during the April or May period compared to the same months in 2019. If you have extenuating circumstances in either of these months, there are exceptions, just email or message for details! For those unfamiliar, the JobKeeper payment will allow eligible employees and business participants payments equivalent to $1500/fortnight. For employee eligibility, please message or refer to the link below. https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/

21.01.2022 With more stimulus packages to come, here is a summary and what it means for households and small businesses. Although we have contacted quite a few of our clients who will be impacted by the refund of the PAYG Withholding amounts on their BAS, let me know if you have any further questions or if we have somehow missed calling or emailing you! https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-second-stimul/12078972

19.01.2022 KAL Accountants will not be taking appointments in the Chinchilla office during these uncertain times. If you do require a face to face meeting, please give me a call and alternative arrangements can be made. I am very lucky I work from home for the majority of time and am able to help clients by phone and email. I also have had our client online portals set up for many years now enabling you to upload documents and sign any paperwork digitally. If you would like this set up or have forgotten your password, just let me know. I will continue to keep you updated on the changes to the stimulus packages as they come to hand.

18.01.2022 IMPORTANT: The scam calls are again doing the rounds stating that you owe money to the ATO and there is a warrant for your arrest. The Australian Taxation Office will not make any calls like this. If they were going to arrest you, you would be well aware of any wrong doing a long time before this phone call and it would be for a lot more than owing them money... DO NOT engage with these calls, simply hang up.

16.01.2022 There is a lot of information to take in with the COVID-19 stimulus packages. I have prepared a summary below which most of you have hopefully received by email. Please let me know if you have any questions! Employers Cash flow boost...Continue reading

16.01.2022 I've had a lot of questions from those who are self employed in regard to being eligible for the JobKeeper payment. You will need to have had or expect to have a fall in turnover (using GST turnover method to calculate turnover) of 30% or more. There is a fairly large scope on this as to whether you look at March 2020 compared to March 2019. You only need to meet this test once although there will be ongoing reporting requirements. ... In the attached ATO page, there is a link to the requirements for the fall in turnover. https://www.ato.gov.au//J/Sole-traders-and-other-entities/

10.01.2022 Happy End of Financial Year! I am wondering where the time has gone but wanted to remind you all that today is also STOCK TAKE time Primary producers, this includes you... Make a note of livestock on hand, hay/fodder on hand etc. and make a note of livestock numbers for the year (natural increases, losses and those that made it to the freezer). Looking forward to catching up with you all very soon!

04.01.2022 For those who employ staff or are self employed and meet the requirements for the JobKeeper payment, please ensure you are enrolled and registered before the end of April to ensure you will be paid for the month of April. You will also need to follow the process of completing an employee nomination form for those who are claiming on behalf of staff. You can enrol online from 20th April. Self employed has been extended so that it doesn't only cover sole traders. If you are a sole trader, trust, partnership or company and your income has dropped or is expected to drop more than 30%, enrol and apply! https://www.ato.gov.au//Enrol-and-apply-for-the-JobKeepe/

02.01.2022 The JobKeeper reporting page is now active. If you have enrolled for the JobKeeper payment, you need to report your earnings for April and expected earnings for May BEFORE you will receive any payments. If we have enrolled on your behalf, please email this information through as soon as possible. Note that earnings is your income for the month excluding GST.
