24.01.2022 Edwin Dell's family lived on a ram shackled orchard on Mundaring Weir Road. It was named 'The Dell' by the Forestry Department. Edwin recalls a life of poverty where most of the Dell children did not go to school but worked on the orchard to help the family make ends meet. Ella reveals how her grandfather, Jacob Schmitt, won the lottery and migrated to Western Australia. 22.01.2022 Were you a "10 pound POM"? Did you come to High Wycombe in the 50's or 60's? In 1958 Sloan Homes opened the "High Wycombe Estate" development. Later, Landalls continued the development with custom built homes focusing on English migrants.... The Maida Vale district now became the locations of Maida Vale and High Wycombe - both very English names! 20.01.2022 From 1920 to 1947 there were a number of small mills suppling timber to the orchardists to make fruit cases for their produce. Ted Smailes talks about working at his fathers mill in the 1930s working from 7.30am to 5.30pm six days a week. 17.01.2022 Migrating from Croatia to Western Australia at the age of 5, Ignatia Paskulich tells of growing up in Piesse Brook in the 1930s. She remembers following little gravel roads, walking through the animal pads that went down to the creek and walking across a tree trunk in the water to get to school. 15.01.2022 Roma Ireland, nee Croxton, was the youngest of nine children. Growing up in Kalamunda she remembers her time at St Brigids school. Her father Frederick was responsible for blowing up a train wagon on his way home to Gooseberry Hill. In this video Roma warns not to trip over the wood heap. 13.01.2022 Rita Hunter (nee Wilson) recalls Haynes Street and neighbouring business owners. The Wilson's owned the real estate agency in Kalamunda in the 1940s and Rita recalls how they turned over two thirds of properties in the area. Rita talks about establishing the Country Women's Association (CWA) in Walliston. Why its Miss Vanessa, journeying out from the Kalamunda Library once again to combine the magic of stories, songs and rhymes with the wonders of the past. Join Vanessa on our Facebook page this week on Wednesday at 10:00 am for Virtual Rhymetime, and at 11:00 am on Thursday for Virtual Storytime. Our thanks to Alison at the Kalamunda History Village for supporting our venture into this wonderful folk museum over the last few weeks. It has been an amazing experience discovering the past through the collection. We have had a lot of fun and learned so much. We hope you too have enjoyed stepping back in time with us with your children and enjoyed the settings, the themes and the timeless power of stories, rhymes and songs. 08.01.2022 FUN FACT FRIDAY #3 The magnificent wooden archway that stands at the entrance of Walliston Primary School's staff carpark was built in 1975. Local man Neil Wes...ton (deceased) built and erected the structure using timber sourced from the original Wallis family property. You will also see similar structures erected by Neil at the Kalamunda History Village and the Pickering Brook Sports Club. Community kinship at its best, reaching across the Hills. Mr Weston's daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren have taught, attended and still currently attend Walliston Primary School.

05.01.2022 Mrs Doris Mynors grew up in Piesse Brook in this video she talks about her missing uncle and how he changed his name after the war. Doris was the daughter of Walter Palmer and Evelyn Gilchrist. Her father was instrumental in building the Piesse Brook Primary school which opened in 1928.
