25.01.2022 'Today, we remember them.' The 'Ode of Remembrance' recited at events to commemorate wartime service and sacrifice, is taken from the poem 'For the Fallen' written by Laurence Binyon in 1914. The Ode is the fourth stanza of Binyon's poem, a tribute to all casualties of war. The response at ceremonies to the Ode is: 'We will remember them.'

23.01.2022 What do Sharks, Loulou, golf clapping and silent shouting have to do with Children's Book Week? Children’s Book Week started today at the City of Kalamunda Libraries with guest author-illustrator Michael Speechley. Michael is the author of 'The All New Must Have Orange 430' and 'The Gift.' Michael visited three Libraries to speak with school groups from Forrestfield Primary School, High Wycombe Primary School and Lesmurdie Senior High School. ... The students learnt about Michael’s love of drawing, his career; spanning graphic arts and arts teacher, and how to do the "golf clap" and the "silent shout." 23.01.2022 This Remembrance Day, the City of Kalamunda Libraries also pay tribute to the fallen through our displays. The significance of the red poppies in the displays represents the immeasurable sacrifice made. The symbolism of the poppy started with a poem written by World War I brigade surgeon, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, a Canadian, who was struck by the sight of the red flowers growing on a ravaged battlefield. McCrae wrote a poem, In Flanders Field, in which he channell...ed the voice of the fallen soldiers buried under those hardy poppies. , , ; , , . . , , , , , . : ; . , . The poppy wreath and flowers that feature in the High Wycombe Library display were created by the talented children who attended the Crafternoon session at the Library yesterday. The knitted poppies in the Forrestfield Library display were created by the skilled 'Knit n Yarn' Group members. We sincerely thank them and our creative Kalamunda and Lesmurdie poppy makers Chris and Amy.
