It was a great learning opportunity for all of the children especially as they were able to interact and be hands on with all of the reptiles. From the kitchen to the bathroom to our art and craft room! We learnt about how science is relevant to our everyday life. We learnt about a fair test and variables by making chocolate cake! Each group was assigned different amounts of cocoa to put into their cake. We observed how it affected the mixture. 07.01.2022 We had some amazingly beautiful birds visit us yesterday along with Yvonne from the WA Bird of Prey Centre. Yvonne was extremely knowledgeable about all of the birds we met. The children left the incursion with a lot of information about these birds and others. We were lucky enough to meet Waalitj (Noongar for Eagle) a magnificent Wedge-tailed Eagle. She has been rescued and rehabilitated by the @wabirdsofprey. All the children and educators were lucky enough to hold her toda...y! We also met a brown falcon, a barn owl, a whistling kite and a boobook owl. Everyone was in awe of these beautiful birds and to know that we can see them in our community. I am sure we will be seeing Yvonne again soon! 04.01.2022 This week we have hit the halfway mark of the term! Its been an interesting ride to say the least as everyone is getting used to the new normal. At KOSC our Educators are committed to providing your children with a positive environment. Our educators have recently been introduced to and are completing online Emerging Minds mental health training to help support children through the bumps in the road they may experience. This week the children engaged with Smiling Minds med...itation and took our mats outside and lay outside watching the clouds while focusing on our belly breathing. It can be small or long but that pause that we take can help children to reset or reaffirm their thought pattern.
