23.01.2022 Asbestos Stabilisation Program Talking Points - Kalbarri Yesterday, DFES commenced work to stabilise material containing asbestos in Kalbarri. There are person...nel from DWER, the DFES Scientific Officer and specialist asbestos contractors in Kalbarri supporting the stabilisation process. The Department of Health continues to provide expert advice. The approach being used has been proven in Yarloop and Wooraloo Bushfires. Bonding agent is being sprayed to stabilise material containing asbestos. This bonding agent is died yellow for visibility and it is non-toxic. A cautious approach is being taken, involving the application of water to roads by bulk water tankers to stabilise any material containing asbestos. Expect to see a number of additional vehicles around Kalbarri throughout the days and nights. There is a traffic management plan in place throughout Kalbarri. This will result in some restrictions of movement. This is unavoidable and we ask for the community’s understanding. 40Km speed limit has now been applied to Kalbarri as of today. See more

16.01.2022 Due to the overwhelming amount of physical donations we have received and the logistical challenges of getting these to where they are most needed (especially f...resh food) we ask that you send a Gift Card if you can. The following businesses operate in nearby Geraldton, Western Australia including Coles, Target, Bunnings Warehouse Australia, Woolworths, BCF - Boating, Camping, Fishing, Ranger Outdoors, Spotlight, Retravision, The Good Guys, ALDI Australia, Caltex Australia, Metro and bp. Gift cards and vouchers for these outlets can be safely posted to Kalbarri Rebuild Fund c/o P.O. Box 501 Geraldton 6530. 100% of Gift Cards received will be distributed to locals. Right now we understand vouchers for Kalbarri BP to power generators are in high demand, also the Kalbarri IGA is open for groceries so that's another good local outlet. See more

03.01.2022 Dear parents and carers, Thank you to everyone for your support as we work to ensure we have education options in place and available for your children. Follow...ing on from this morning’s public meeting with Lisa Rodgers, Director General and Lisa Criddle, Director of Education, Midwest, I would like to provide an update on the commencement of Term 2 on Tuesday, 20 April. As you will be aware, the Kalbarri District High School site has been assessed by the Department of Finance and has been deemed unsafe to attend and reparation of the building will get underway soon. Given we cannot be on our school site, we have secured the Allen Centre, on Grey Street, to use as an alternative. This week will look different for our students. Tomorrow, Tuesday 20 April, ATAR students will be on-site at the Allen Centre. They will be provisioned with laptops and all learning materials. If your child cannot attend the Allen Centre, they may learn from home with hard copy or digital learning materials. All other students will be learning from home on Tuesday, 20 April. Laptops, work packages and learning resources will be available for collection at the Allen Centre from 10.30am to 12.30pm for these students. Tomorrow, a further update will be provided to all parents regarding learning arrangements from Wednesday onwards. I know some families have had to relocate as they cannot stay in their homes. We encourage these families to call the parent helpline on 1800 882 345 (open 8.00am to 8.00pm every day) and support will be given for these students to learn from home. Additional teachers will be joining our school from the Department of Education’s Teacher Flying Squad to ensure we have sufficient staff to teach your children. There will also be school psychologists and chaplains to assist students and staff and two Collegiate Principals available to help support teaching and learning, and staff and student care. Thank you once again for your support as we work through this together. Stay safe. Michael Ostaszewskyj Principal Kalbarri District High School
