22.01.2022 Fabulous Friday!!! 27th November Toddlers An action-packed day to finish our week! After a play outside we read a story Jolly Jingle Christmas that Aaliyah brought in to share before morning tea. ... Following on from our Rudolph story yesterday, we played a game of Pin the Red Nose on Rudolph today. The children followed instructions beautifully and we had a giggle at our results, most of the children doing better than Miss Carina. We sat at the table with snowmen puzzles. The toddlers really engaged in this, spending quite some time challenging themselves. As part of encouraging respectful social interactions in the toddler room, we planned an activity Pass the Paintbrush where the children participated in a group painting but were asked to share one paintbrush. The toddlers listened really well and took turns, passing the brush around the table after each having a turn. We then enjoyed manipulating playdoh and drawing in shaving foam at the table. See more

16.01.2022 What did we get up to this month?..... thank you for the video miss Sophie! Here we go.....

14.01.2022 Tuesday 10th November Nursery/Toddlers NAIDOC Week!!! While we were combined this morning, Penny showed lots of interest in didgeridoos and Aboriginal dancing after seeing them in pictures, so we watched clips on the dancing and how didgeridoos get made.... From there we moved to the table where we had our Australia map with native animals and the Aboriginal symbol matching game. Penny and Irie were very engaged in these activities. Kai was interested in the Australian animals, pointing at each one. Outside, we set up playdoh where the toddlers were given mats featuring Aboriginal patterns. They attempted to copy the patterns with the playdoh. Owen used this as a sensory activity, squishing the playdoh in his hand. From there we went to making Aboriginal symbols in the sand, using sticks. We will continue with our Taba Naba song tomorrow.

13.01.2022 Thursday 25th February Nursery /Toddlers We had a very messy day today creating a sensory activity for the babies with paper, streamers, tissue and sensory balls. Kirra smiled as Miss Nikki sprinkled the paper over her hair. Caleb enjoyed some tummy time feeling all the different textures.... The toddlers were busy with the train set at the table. Silas then added dinosaurs to their creative play space. We then decided to incorporate shaving foam for the dinosaurs to play in then extend on this by singing a dinosaur counting 1-5 song at group time. We spent time with dominoes, practising our colours and counting. Aaliyah began holding her domino up like a phone. hellooooo she said. Silas started to match up the corresponding colours. Before lunch we all sat together as a big group and sang Bee Bee Bumble Bee, a great group bonding experience learning everyone’s names.

13.01.2022 Thursday 12th November Toddlers We spent the morning doing one of the things we do best.... Being NOISY!!!!... The toddlers showed lots of interest in the drums. Combining this with NAIDOC week we collected sticks in the yard to paint. We will use these sticks to play along to our Taba Naba song tomorrow. Later in the morning, we introduced a big box for imaginative play. The children initiated banging on the top of the box with their hands like a drum. We offered the Te Rakau sticks for them to use. The children began drumming in rhythm together. Te Huinga impressed us by watching the people on YouTube playing drums on buckets, repeating their actions of tapping in rhythm then twirling his sticks. He and Miss Carina then played a Maori stick game where he watched then joined in the motions she was doing. Great concentration Te Huinga! At pack away time, we sang our pack away song. Ivy and Miss Nikki drummed together in time to our singing. The children who weren't here yesterday completed their turtle dot stickers. Sophia and Ivy showed lots of interest in this. We spent time at the table familiarising ourselves with Australian animals. At group time, the toddlers engaged in the Dashing Through the Sand story about Santa visiting Australia.

07.01.2022 Wednesday 25/11/2020 3-5 years. Children got busy in the sandpit with dinosaurs creating a jungle with sticks and a sand mountain. Indoor activities started with a focus looking at what is taller and what is shorter. Children used blocks to stack on top of each other to make towers, children were encouraged to identify the tallest and shortest.... Children completed worksheets on identifying the tallest out of four objects of differing sizes. Children also worked on their pencil grip and the starting point on the page when doing some number and shape recognition activities. Good concentration skills are demonstrated as children work out the different shaped blocks to create a variety of patterns. Today’s Xmas art activity children used paint, glitter and coloured shiny paper to create a Xmas bell. Other activities included Mr potato head puzzle, straw connectors, elastic band puzzle and mobile.

07.01.2022 Tuesday 23rd February Nursery /Toddlers Owen appeared to enjoy the sensory activities this morning. First we started with feathers where Owen picked them up and waved them around, watching them fall graciously to the floor. We then added shaving foam. Owen didn’t show hesitation as he placed his hand into the foam then lifted his hand squeezing it.... We welcomed Dolce and Cortez who then arrived. Dolce joined the older children for creative play with play dough, showing us the swan she’d made using the cutters. Quack quack she said as she held it up proudly. Cortez enjoyed the musical toys and looking at story books after having cuddles with Miss Carina.

06.01.2022 Wednesday 11th November Nursery /Toddlers Continuing with NAIDOC week, we put a spin on Aboriginal dot painting art by using dot stickers. All children did well with the sensory aspect, although at times showing frustration when the stickers would get stuck to our fingers. Silas showed a lot of interest in this activity, making a circle pattern with his stickers.... From there we introduced the kinetic sand and playdoh for more sensory fun. Silas and Jaden spent some time building mini sand castles with the kinetic sand. Silas then made a bigger castle and used a toy "spider" to knock it down. Kai, Silas and Te then made lollipops out of playdoh. Kai squealed with delight as he mimicked eating it. Aaliyah, Jaden and Te Huinga showed great problem solving skills and team work, bonding with Miss Lucy building sand castles. We finished our morning learning the actions to the Taba Naba song before having lunch. What a lovely morning we shared!

05.01.2022 Wednesday 25th November Nursery /Toddlers Another beautiful morning outdoors today.... We started our day with dinosaurs in the sand pit before having a picnic morning tea. We did colour matching where the toddlers had coloured figurines and matched them to the corresponding colours on the Christmas tree and present drawings. Silas, Finn, Te Huinga and Jaden showed lots of interest in this, matching the colours and repeating the name of each colour. Te Huinga then discovered the figurines click together and made a big line of them. Miss Nikki and Owen sat in the sandpit exploring the feel of the sand on their feet before Jaden joined them to play with Owen. Silas, Jaden, Finn and Te enjoyed bowling in the yard, learning to take turns and practising "rolling" the ball rather than "throwing". Penny spotted a "baby duck" on the farm so we ventured over to watch the cows and birds. "They're our pets" said Penny.

Children set up the number squares in number sequence order before jumping on numbers and identifying the square they are on. We used worksheets for a count and match activity.... Children found moments of solitude at the computer to concentrate on the games and recognise their own achievements. Logan used cars and mobilo to create patterns moving the cars through the play dough. Charlie was excited to show he could write his name. He used the chalk to copy his name. Superstar soccer saw children using hand eye coordination and balancing skills as they kicked the ball in and out of cones, they were encouraged to identify the coloured cones. 03.01.2022 FRIDAY 13th NOVEMBER all ages Penny requested we "watch the men with the paint on their bodies" again. We put the Aboriginal dancing and didgeridoo playing on YouTube to make music with our painted sticks from yesterday. The children all tapped on the big box as they watched the dancing.... We used cotton buds and paint to decorate boomerangs and Aboriginal stencils while others sat on the mat designing a big train track with Mr Rob. Tzion and Miss Carina shared some time together with the wooden shapes. Tzion copied Miss Carina's pattern then added to the pattern for Miss Carina to copy. He then made a "hamburger and pasta" out of the shapes. Jaden and Te Huinga enjoyed sorting and stacking the shapes "Look Rob!" Te Huinga proudly called out. We played musical chairs before lunch as requested by Gemma. Well done to Tzion to won today, with Gemma as a very close second. A lovely peaceful morning to compete another week at Kindy.
