19.01.2022 This video showed the laser deep clean of a gum pocket which was associated with a tooth abscess. The tooth was treated with root canal therapy and gum infection was also treated at the same time to stop recurrent bacterial invasion into the peri-apical area. 10.01.2022 The healing power of laser Our patient sustained a traumatic dental injury where her teeth almost completely fell out of the socket. They were held in by her braces at the time. The injury was attended to within the hour when her teeth were repositioned, and healing laser therapy started and continued 3 times per week, in total of 3 weeks. Even though we are great believers in the capability of the lasers in promoting healing, we were astounded by the speed of healing in thi...s case. The post op photo was taken 10 months after her injury. We have every reason to smile with our patient. When a dental trauma occurs, it is absolutely critical to have it attended to immediately. Time may change the outcomes of the accident. . Do wear mouthguard when playing sports . Take care in the playground. Most accidents occur outside of sports we saw over the years were bicycle and trampoline related. . If the whole tooth falls out of the socket, do try to RE-INSERT it back in place immediately, using the tooth next to it as a guide. If you cannot reinsert it, keep it in milk, or the saliva of the injured person. NEVER wash or store in water. Certain sport emergency kits have a special solution to store the injured tooth. Do use it if it is available. . When the tooth is broken, look for the broken piece and bring it with you to the dentist. It should be stored as mentioned above. 07.01.2022 Dental Mock-up When you visit our practice for an opinion on smile makeovers, big or small, we always do a mock-up tryin. So what is a mock-up? I could be done directly in the mouth or it could be done in the lab after a set of impressions of your teeth have been taken. We then replicate that lab work and temporarily put on your teeth to see how they would look on your teeth and especially if they are in harmony with your face. From there, we will work out if any adjustments ...to be made to improve the looks or the lab can proceed making your teeth as they planned. This photo below showed a before and after example of a direct mock-up. A young patient presented with a satisfactory crown and old filling on her upper front teeth. The tooth on the left of the photo showed discolouration of a 2-year old crown and a stained old ‘white’ filling on the right. She was not quite happy with the shape of her two front teeth either. We had discussed pros and cons and various options including teeth whitening, and internal bleaching for the dark tooth on the left before the new crown is made. That way, colour matching of the new crown will be a lot better. The tooth on the right will need a new tooth-coloured restoration. The far corners of the two front teeth have been adjusted slightly to give it a straighter look and a mock-up filling was placed on tooth on the right. Even without the actual treatment, by having the straighter looking teeth and no brown stain present on the right, the discoloured crown on the left already looked better. Don’t you agree? 07.01.2022 Bridge to replace missing teeth Missing teeth can be replaced by dentures, implants or bridges. In this case, patient chose to have the bridge done after the initial consultation and some consideration. The upper right first molar was removed some time ago. When the bone supports your teeth no longer has loading stimulation from chewing, the bone wastes away. One could see it receded upwards. The bridge was made by the lab (thank you #Boutech )and was cemented in two weeks l...ater. The tooth looked rather long due to the bones loss. Her smile did not show. One has to clean very well around the bridge to make sure those teeth supporting the bridge will not be decayed. Regular check-up and clean are essential. Had it been a planned treatment, we would recommend bone graft at the same time the tooth was removed to maintain good bone level, favouring a more natural shape of the bridge. 03.01.2022 Laser gum lift A young patient had accident many years ago, resulted in root canal therapies and extensive coronal damage. Her concerns were the gummy smile, uneven gum line and discoloured front teeth. The two discoloured front teeth had laser bleach to lighten the shades. The gum line was lifted by the conservative Er:YAG laser. Downtime was about 3 days. The resin veneers were placed once the gum has settled.
