24.01.2022 A few weeks ago we asked you what books you recommend so we can get in the shop. We have taken on board many of your suggestions and we have ordered many books in. One suggestion was for more LGBTQIA+ books. Though we haven’t got the vast shelves filled of LGBTQIA+ books yet, we have got in a few different LGBTQIA+ titles, of varying genres such Young Adult, biography and fiction. Since November is Pride month in Perth here are just a few titles #kaleido #kaleidobooks #boooks #lgbtqia #lgbtbooks

22.01.2022 At Kaleido we love having writers in, so we were pleasantly surprised when Dervla McTiernan, author of The Ruin came over and said hi and sign a few copies for us. The Ruin has been a hugely popular book, with many copies flying off the shelves, which is not surprising since it’s a fantastic book, full of twists and turns! More on Dervla here: https://dervlamctiernan.com/... Overview of The Ruin: It’s been twenty years since Detective Cormac Reilly discovered the body of Hilaria Blake in her crumbling home. But he’s never forgotten the two children she left behind When Aisling Conroy’s boyfriend Jack is found in the freezing black waters of the river Corrib in Ireland, the police tell her it was suicide. She throws herself into work, trying to forgetbut Jack’s sister Maude reappears in Ireland after years abroad, determined to prove Jack was murdered. Meanwhile, Detective Cormac Reilly, who was recently transferred to Galway from his squad in Dublin, is assigned to dig into a cold case from twenty years agothe seeming overdose of Jack and Maude’s drug and alcohol addled mother. Other detectives are connecting Jack’s death to his mother’s, and pushing Reilly to arrest Maude, and fast. But instinct tells him something isn’t quite what it seems This unsettling small-town noir draws us deep into the dark heart of Ireland, where corruption, desperation, and crime run rife. A gritty look at trust and betrayal where the written law isn’t the only one, The Ruin asks who will protect you when the authorities can’tor won’t. #kaleido #kaleidobooks #books Dervla McTiernan

18.01.2022 A picture of a slightly tatty edition of Celeste Ng’s ‘Like Fire Everywhere’ because we cannot put it down. Goodread’s 2017 Winner for Fiction, this is for sure one of our favourite books. Brief plot summary: When Elena Richardsons' friends attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town and puts Elena and her tenant Mia Warren, whose daughter is friends with the Richardson kids, on opposing sides. Determined to uncover th...e secrets in Mia's past, Elena’s obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs to her own family and Mia's. There is no way you will be able to resist taking sides while reading this book.
