24.01.2022 Heres a post that will get you talking ... who are the better (tractor) drivers - men or women?! Up in Bowen, where we farm with the Jurgens family, we recently welcomed a new all-female tractor driving team. Marina and Annie joined the Jurgens on farm at the start of the winter season. Since arriving to Bowen this duo has been doing the all-important ground prep on farm. Melita Jurgens says this early ground work can make or break a crop.... "They are doing an amazing job," she says. "Ground prep is so important. The fineness of the till and the depth of the till has big implications for irrigation, nutrition and plant health." Annie and Marina arent the only women working in the business up north. As well as Melita and her daughter Jess, the organic packing shed is being run by Chin. The NQ dispatch and QA teams are all female, as is the harvest team. "We usually welcome a team of men from Vanuatu for harvest but due to border closures we couldnt do that this year," says Melita. "There was a group of women from East Timor picking berries in Tasmania. They were stuck in Australia and couldnt go home so we were able to offer them work. They are picking all of the baby capsicums and grape tomatoes and theyre doing a great job." See more

23.01.2022 CASUAL POSITIONS NOW AVAILABLE Thanks to everyone who has registered their interest in joining our casual production packing and sorting team. As we enter our busiest vegetable production time we need to fill a number of casual production roles. Some positions are available immediately, with other positions coming on line in the weeks following.... THE JOB This is casual, seasonal work and hours and availability will be determined by the crops and orders. Our shifts generally start between 4am to 6am and we operate six days a week. There are also some afternoon shifts available. You could be working on our carrot, bean, corn, onion, or baby capsicum packing and sorting lines. All work is based at Kalbar. HOW TO APPLY. 15.01.2022 Carrot Tossing - it's an often overlooked sport on the national stage, but here in Kalbar we embrace the tricky discipline with enthusiasm. At today's Kalbar Country Day celebrations the Carrot Tossing Champion mantle was handed to this year's winners. Carrot enthusiast Charlotte Davison, 12, of Wynnum won the junior competition with two excellent throws, while Kalbar's own Senior Constable Josh Piper took out the senior comp. No doubt both contestants were victorious due to ...a pre-event diet rich in carrots and other vegetables.
