24.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS For people in Goldfields and parts of South East Coastal districts. Issued at 4:15 pm Sunday, 1 November 2020.... An area of thunderstorms in the Goldfields and northern South East Coastal may produce damaging winds. Weather Situation: A trough through the Goldfields is producing a large area of thunderstorms. These thunderstorms are expected to move to the south southeast and continue into this evening. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Kalgoorlie, Norseman, Leinster, Leonora, Menzies and Wiluna. A 109 km/h (59 knot) wind gust was reported from Wiluna Airport at 6.04 pm Sunday. The overall weather pattern is not unusual for this time of year but severe weather may occur in some parts of the warning area. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. * Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. * Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. * If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home. * If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. * Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. * Slow down and turn your headlights on. * Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. * If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears.

20.01.2022 There’s a new kid on the Emergency WA block! DFES and the Department of Health (HealthyWA) have partnered to customise the Emergency WA website (www.emergency.w...a.gov.au) to include map-based ‘human pandemic’ warnings if they’re needed. The website is now equipped to show localised outbreaks of COVID-19 and provide targeted information to communities impacted. While we hopefully don’t have to use it, this enhancement is part of the WA Government preparation for potential outbreaks of COVID-19 in WA. To help keep the community safe, remember to: Practise good hygiene and wash your hands regularly. Maintain a physical distance from others where possible. Stay home if you’re sick. If you’re experiencing symptoms, get tested immediately. Stay home and self-isolate if you are waiting for your test results.
