25.01.2022 Dear Families As a school we have developed some tasks to support 'home learning'. These activities have been developed to support those families who have decided not to send their children to school at this time. Our teaching staff are currently fully committed to teaching and learning within their own classrooms, should the situation change 'home learning' will become more targeted to specific year levels and differentiated to support student understanding of particular con...cepts. The Department of Education has also developed a website to support parents at this time, this can be accessed at https://www.education.wa.edu.au/learning-at-home

19.01.2022 Advice for getting through the first weeks of having the kids at home. Thanks to the person who shared this! 1. Stay home! There’s your Civics and Citizenship Curriculum covered right there! It is your social responsibility. Stay home. ... 2. Stay connected! Set up a zoom account and connect with your kids’ friends' parents. I have created individual channels for the kids to chat so I coordinate and see everything. Revisit your family internet safety rules and consequences! 3. Don’t try and ‘do school’ at home. The ‘school work’ will come from your school eventually. Don’t stress about filling the day with ‘work.’ Have some daily Challenges - What have you read today? How did you use numbers today? What did you create today? 4. Create space Set up some different spaces ... Lego, tinkering table, craft, book corner. If you are working from home you are going to need them to have options they can do independently. Get them involved in working out what those activities could be. 5. Do a menu List each family member’s favourite meal and let the kids choose one they will learn to cook. The first attempt - you cook and they help. Second attempt - they cook and you help. Third attempt - they are on their own! Depending on their age of course. 5. Life skills Teach them how to use the washing machine! I mean the whole process! Collect it, wash it, dry it, put it away. My kids ran out of clean clothes once. Logical consequences! 6. Screen time Work our your plan before it becomes an issue because it will! I don’t put a time limit, I ask for three things they are wanting to do or achieve. They check in with me when they’ve finished the second one and I remind them they have one to go. They only pushed it once and I dropped it back to two goals. They will get how it works - give and take. 7. Pause Allow everyone time to decompress. The lead up to finally ‘being at home’ may have left you all feeling exhausted. Accept it for what it is. Watch that extra movie. Read for an extra hour. Do what you need to do. At the end of this our kids won’t remember everything we did during this time but they will remember how they felt. Connected, safe and healthy is my hope. Please feel free to share the bits you find pertinent. Please don’t reference me, this is not my work. A parent to parent voice is powerful at this time. Be strong everyone Kalgoorlie PS is and has an amazing support system. Share with your network! Thanks Beck

17.01.2022 I know we keep on saying it but we are so grateful for the support our families are giving us at the moment. This was another act of kindness from one of our parents this afternoon

17.01.2022 In an Australian first, my Government is making the influenza vaccine free for primary school aged students. While we may not have a vaccine for COVID-19, we do... have one for influenza. And we want as many Western Australians to be vaccinated as possible while we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why we took the unprecedented step of making it free for primary school aged students. So book an appointment for your child today, And while you’re at it, get one yourself. It will go a long way to keeping our community healthy and safe.

16.01.2022 LAST DAY OF LESSONS Today, Friday 3 April, is the last day of lessons for Term 1. From Monday 6 April to Thursday 9 April teachers will prepare teaching program...s for Term 2. 12.01.2022 Our awesome student councillors (minus 3) received their councillor shirts and jackets today.

12.01.2022 Tomorrow is officially the last day of Term 1 and let me reassure you all that our teachers and education assistants have been working tirelessly to get everything prepared for our distance learning model which will commence next term. Tomorrow, all families will receive an important email which will explain how learning is going to be facilitated. We have been busy creating personalised learning bags that families will be able to collect towards the end of the holidays. The amazing crew here at KPS have also developed an online Learning Hub so we can keep in close contact with all our awesome students. We miss you all, it's just not the same without you here :(

11.01.2022 A helpful home learning resource.

11.01.2022 This afternoon I was involved in a video conference with the Director of Education, Lisa Rodgers. Parents can choose to send their children to school from Wednesday 29th April. Please note Tuesday 28th April is a pupil free day. For those parents that decide to not send their children to school, an online or paper based program will be offered. Next week I will send through a more detailed email around how Term 2 will look for all families. We are certainly all in this together. Beck Brand

08.01.2022 An important email will be emailed to all families today.

07.01.2022 We’re looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow night!

07.01.2022 Dear families You may have seen media coverage over the weekend regarding a Western Australian Police investigation that has uncovered a series of online grooming offences against young people in the wider community. Charges of this nature are unsettling and we want to make sure that all parents/carers remain aware of the importance of cyber safety. I also want to reassure you that there is no indication that any of these grooming offences have taken place at our school. ... I know you are best placed to talk to your children about cyber safety and there are many resources to help guide you through this on the Department of Education website. Other online resources are available on the eSafety Commissioner website. We are also offering a cyber safety workshop for parents next Monday 7th September at 2.00pm. Please enter through the front office if you would like to attend this session. This weekend’s story may lead to children being more aware of these types of offences and wanting to disclose information. The Department’s parent helpline, 1800 882 345, is available for you to call if you have any questions or concerns, and is staffed by psychologists, child protection officers and principals. The phone line is available from 8.00am to 4.00pm this Monday to Friday. If you have any general concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on 90914583 Kind regards, Rebekah Brand Principal

04.01.2022 Across the day, all our staff met in small groups, to reflect on the new processes and procedures we have put into place this week to support social distancing. The message that came out loud and strong was how appreciative we are of the way our parents have supported what we have implemented to keep our kids and staff safe. For that we are so grateful!
