25.01.2022 GREEN GOES FOR GOLD FOR WA The Executive of Speedway Sedans Western Australia are tonight pleased to announce that Speedway Sedan stalwart Geoff Green has recei...ved the third ever SSWA Lifetime Achievement Award. The award has only ever been presented twice before and is in recognition of meritous efforts from an individual over a long period of time that benefits Speedway Sedan racing. Long serving President John Purser was the first recipient back in 2018, with long time State Secretary Jason Crowe joining Green as a recipient in 2020. Anyone who has been around Speedway would know of Geoff Green and his wife Julie, both of whom have held many roles at the State and National level with the betterment of our great sport always at heart. Geoff started out as a Crew Chief for brother Reg's Torana in the 1980’s with the Saloon Car Club WA. He then joined the committee and served several terms as President and one as Secretary. WASCF developed further with Geoff’s guidance, while he also played roles within the Super Sedan club as well as at popular tracks such as Claremont Speedway. With his wife Julie serving as State and National Secretary, Geoff was the voice of Western Australia on the national scene throughout the 80’s, 90’s, and into the 2000’s when there was no electronic communications like we have today! Geoff was a forceful and passionate go getter for the sport in WA and would also serve terms as the National President and National Vice President over the years. He also recently took on other roles helping tracks around the state, and has for a number of years been WA’s board member at a national level. It is for all these reasons that SSWA is proud to recognise Geoff tonight as a recipient of the SSWA Lifetime Achievement Award. Congratulations Geoff.

25.01.2022 Annoucement to all our members, drivers & spectators of Kalgoorlie Speedway. It is with sadness that we write this post about our Rick 'Hotdog' Hodgson a much loved volunteer and life member of our speedway family whom passed away on the 19th September 2020. Rick's funeral will be held at the Kalgoorlie Cemetary on the 9th October 2020 at 11am.... As anybody would know Rick has spent many years at the Kalgoorlie International Speedway as a valued member, life member, chief steward, flag marshall, clerk of course and most recently the ever haunting voice of the pits! We would like to send all of our love and wishes to his family at this tough time and hopefully you can make it on friday the 9th to give him the greatest farewell.

25.01.2022 Not long now and this beauty of a R1700G will be digging deep as the fleet grows for the division. We are confidant her productivity will be a as strong as the R2900’s

24.01.2022 THIEVES TARGET SPEEDWAY The Kalgoorlie International Speedway says it is disappointing the venue has again been targeted by thieves. Offenders forced their way... into the club room on Tuesday, smashing windows and damaging a security alarm. Forensic officers attended the scene and police are still searching for the offenders. Speedway president Ben Sowden said the only thing stolen was alcohol but the damage was costly. "Over the last three, four years, this is about our fifth break in," he said. "We put events on for everybody and for anybody to target any sort of club or building that is used by lots of people, it's just heart wrenching." Anyone with information has been urged to contact Kalgoorlie Police. Kalgoorlie International Speedway

23.01.2022 MARTINELLI NAMED THE 2019/2020 JULIE GREEN DEDICATION AWARD WINNER Well respected WA official Fabio Martinelli was recently recognised by member clubs of Speedw...ay Sedans WA as the 2019/2020 Julie Green Dedication Award winner. Martinelli has long been involved in Speedway, starting out as a parent with three kids racing in SSA Junior Sedans. From here he became involved in the JSRA, serving as President, being heavily involved in the annual New Zealand vs Australia Series and ensuring that the development of SSA Junior Sedans continues, including a focus on safety. This has also seen him become a life member of the club. Fab has also been heavily involved in his local club, serving as President of the RDA of WA Ellenbrook Speedway for a number of years and last season he was also inducted as a life member. In recent years Fab has traversed the country as a scrutineer for the SSWA, quite often as the Chief Scrutineer where not only was he the go to person on Title weekends, but would also spend countless hours training new officials, offering assistance in person and over the phone and in general working side by side with other stalwarts of the sport to continue to maintain the high standards of officiating that are expected. This has included serving as state technical director for a number of years. SSWA and all its member clubs recognises Fab for all his efforts and congratulate him on being a worth recipient of the Julie Green Dedication Award for 2019/20.

22.01.2022 SOMETHING TO CROWE ABOUT The Executive of Speedway Sedans Western Australia is today pleased to confirm that long serving State Secretary Jason Crowe has receiv...ed the second ever SSWA Lifetime Achievement Award. The award has only ever been presented once before and is in recognition of meritous efforts from an individual over a long period of time that benefits Speedway Sedan racing. Long serving President John Purser was the first recipient back in 2018, and now Crowe has joined an incredibly exclusive club as just the second winner. Jason Crowe comes from a Speedway family, with many members of the Crowe clan taking their turn behind the wheel of a racecar. Jason however chose to stay behind a microphone, starting to commentate at his home track, Collie Speedway when he was just a youngster. This continued into further roles at Collie Speedway, including positions on the Executive committee and also a long time role taking care of media for the track, and resulted in Jason becoming a life member of the Collie RDA. Jason would then become heavily involved with Sedan racing at a State level, becoming the State Secretary and also being responsible for media, including his very popular commentary that provided passionate and exciting calls to all those who listened. He would then take on a national media role, pioneering the use of live audio and in recent years, spearheading Speedway as it moved into the world of live streaming. Over the years Jason became known as the voice of Speedway Sedans, but also dabbled in other events including calling the World Dragon Boat Championships while also managing an incredibly successful career in football umpiring. He has built a strong reputation at tracks across the country, including the world class Perth Motorplex, and has even been invited to New Zealand next season to call some big events over there. This is just a brief summary of Jason’s efforts over many years, and it is Jason’s efforts for the betterment of our sport over many, many years that are something to be commended. It is for that reason that SSWA is proud to recognise him as a recipient of the SSWA Lifetime Achievement Award. Congratulations Jason.

20.01.2022 Looking for a action packed night out this weekend with some mates or the family? Come watch the Formula 500 Championship Series on our famous red dirt action track, featured with the AMCA WA Golden Mile Challenge. This Weekend - 21st November, gates open at 5pm for racing at 6:30pm... Live streaming will be available on our Facebook page on the night.

18.01.2022 Paul and Kaye Keen Classic! This weekend will see the Wingless Sprints of WA in action once again, not just for one night, but for two in a row as teams compete... in the Paul and Kay Keen Classic! Twelve teams will head down the road to compete at Kalgoorlie Speedway on Saturday night, then back it up with a trip to Esperance Speedway the next night. With tow money on offer plus a $5000 prize pool, this is one that they all want to win. Coming into the event with his confidence sky high would be Chad Pittard who finally broke through for a feature win last weekend at Collie. He has been a consistent performer so far this season and would love to make it two in a row, or even three from three by the end of the weekend. Daniel Keen will also be ready for another good result, performing strongly in the heats at the last show and coming home with a fine second place. Having recorded four podium finishes so far this season without a win, Keen is chomping at the bit to get back on that top step and this weekend provides a great opportunity for him to do that once again. Daran Humfrey was third at the last show, his second podium finish of the year, and he too is desperate to elevate himself up the finishing order this weekend. He is always consistent and has been right on the pace, so when things fall into place he is a tough nut to crack. Ash Hounsfield and Brendon Wedge are both welcome additions to the field this weekend, and certainly add some more options for punters with both having been in victory lane already this season. They didn’t contest the last show at Collie, meaning both are fresh and ready to go for what is sure to be an intense weekend of racing. Kate Walsh is back aboard the #23 machine after recently stepping aside to allow Tom Payet a drive and will use this weekend to get more laps under her belt and gain experience on two unfamiliar tracks. Brandon Sharpe hits the track in the #24 machine this weekend while Travis Sharpe is in the #58 and both will be looking for some good results, while James Bissaker and Warren Hunter will both be hoping for a better run after disappointment in their last show at Collie. Tom Britton has also nominated to join the field this weekend and is in with a good chance with a bit of luck, while we also welcome Tyson Bryden back in the field after some time out of the seat. Bryden will be doing double duty on the night as he also campaigns his Speedcar, so the extra laps could serve him well come feature race time on both nights. Make sure you enjoy the trip this weekend and watch shows at both Kalgoorlie and Esperance, because it will certainly be worth it! Release by DTN Media. Pics Courtesy Peter Roebuck. Official Nominations - 12 9 Tom Britton 13 James Bissaker 16 Daniel Keen 23 Kate Walsh 24 Brandon Sharpe 29 Chad Pittard 44 Tyson Bryden 56 Brendon Wedge 58 Travis Sharpe 84 Daran Humfrey 94 Warren Hunter 95 Ash Hounsfield

18.01.2022 2019/2020 SSA NATIONAL PRODUCTION SEDAN CANCELLED Official Release Speedway Sedans Australia wishes to advise that the 2019/2020 SSA National Production Sedan T...itle that was to be held in October at the Ellenbrook Speedway in Western Australia has now been cancelled. With the Western Australian State Government unable to provide a time frame as to when the border restrictions entering their state would be relaxed, Speedway Sedans Australia was left with no option but to cancel the event. CEO of Speedway Sedans Australia Greg Lynd explains, Our organisation regrettably has had to unfortunately cancel the 2019/2020 SSA National Production Sedan Title due to the ongoing border restrictions which have come about as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Lynd goes on to say In light of this cancellation Speedway Sedans Australia wishes to advise SSA Production Sedan competitors across the country that the 2021/2022 SSA National Production Sedan Title has now been awarded to the Ellenbrook Speedway in Western Australia. As a result of this the Mildura Speedway Drivers Club who operate the Timmis Speedway in Victoria who were originally awarded the 2021/2022 SSA National Production Sedan Title will now host the event during the 2022/2023 season Lynd concluded. Dates for both events will be announced in the weeks ahead after consultation with the host venues with the 2020/2021 SSA National Production Sedan Title to be held at the IBRP Kingaroy Speedway in Queensland over the Easter Long Weekend from the 4th-6th April 2021. Speedway Sedans Australia would like to thank the Mildura Speedway Drivers Club and the Racing Drivers Association of Western Australia for their co-operation on the reallocation of these SSA National Production Sedan Titles. We thank all of our competitors across our six National Classes for their patience, understanding and co-operation as we navigate these unprecedented times together. Ends Release

12.01.2022 Here we come Kalgoorlie!! For the second time in as many nights, the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series will have a new chapter written, with Kalgoor...lie Speedway set to host Round Three tonight, proudly presented by Freo Group Pty Ltd. Tonight’s field will feature all fifteen starters from last nights show at this stage, plus will have the added boost of three more competitors making their way into the red dirt speedway. Ryan Higgs is on a high after last nights victory, where he held off a determined Steven Ellement and last start feature winner Cody Turacchio. All three of these drivers are a threat any time they roll into the pits and could well fill out the podium in any order once again tonight. Chris Dymock and Glenn Carstairs also showed plenty of speed last night and it wouldn’t take much for them to elevate themselves a couple more positions come feature time tonight. Others like Troy Samwell and and the Della’s, Carl and Damian, had good nights at Esperance and will hope to continue that while names like Brendon Marshman, Gavin Casey and Jacob Priest didn’t quite finish the way they hoped and will be looking to bounce back tonight. Brendan Wright joins the field tonight, as does Craig Noakes who has burnt the midnight oil in recent weeks to get back on track after a crash in the opening round at Pithara, while Darren Rodwell also makes his first appearance in a number of seasons tonight. He cut some practice laps at the Motorplex a few weeks backs and shouldn’t take long to be back on the pace tonight. Racing will begin at 6.30 tonight, with hot laps and heats prior to the dash and mid pack events and the all important feature race. The 2020/21 Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series, proudly presented by Corporeal Health, Alltorque Engineering, Ridgetech Roofing Pty Ltd, Burson Auto Parts Myaree, TRS HD Mechanical, Hedington Motorsports, JC Performance Heads, Three Springs IGA, Pope Racing, Opal Finance, Freo Group Pty Ltd. 09.01.2022 BARNEWALL BACK TO HIS BEST Kalgoorlie local Jack Barnewall has held off some of Western Australia's best to claim victory in the 2020 Goldfields Machining Stock...tober held this past Saturday Night at the Boyes Equipment Kalgoorlie International Speedway. Barnewall defeated Damon Lyall and Ray Leonard in the thirty lap main event at the season opening race meeting for the Goldfields venue. When the lights went green Barnewall raced away from the field with Karratha's Stevie O'Dowd quickly moving into second from Ethan Genev and Damon Lyall. Colm O"Riordan brought on the first stoppage on lap seven with Barnewall again clearing away from the field. O'Dowd's race was soon over finding the concrete wall with Genev, Lyall and local Ray Leonard having a great battle for the minors. Within sight of the finish the yellows again came on for the stricken Ben Norman with Barnewall being brought back to the field for the restart. Damon Lyall had worked his way back into second place prior to the stoppage and threw everything at the leader but Barnewall narrowly held on from Lyall and Leonard. Collie's Ethan Genev finished fourth from the Ground Masters Holden Commodore of Evan Wakefield, Linton Dickerson, Lachie Dellar, Dylan Williams and Jeremy Ferris the nine finishers. Official Result of the 2020 Goldfields Machining "Stocktober" Thirty Laps: 1. W16 Jack Barnewall, 2. W27 Damon Lyall, 3. W12 Ray Leonard, 4. W4 Ethan Genev, 5. W21 Evan Wakefield, 6. 08.01.2022 IWANOW 2019/2020 SPEEDWAY SEDANS WA DRIVER OF THE YEAR For the second year in a row Blake Iwanow was voted by the member clubs of Speedway Sedans WA as the 2019.../2020 Driver of the Year at the recent AGM of the State Body. Iwanow joins a small club of drivers who have won the award more than once, and an even smaller group of those who have won it back to back. Blake began his season by claiming his third Tom Green Memorial for SSA Junior Sedans at the Ellenbrook Speedway, just the second driver to win the blue-ribbon race back to back in the Top Stars division and the fourth driver to achieve the win in both New Stars and Top Stars. He then claimed two more feature race wins at Ellenbrook before travelling around WA to compete once again. Blake would win every single race he contested at the Perth Motorplex this season in SSA Junior Sedans and claimed the Track Championship for Junior Sedans, then grabbed victory in the Christmas Cup at Narrogin prior to heading to Collie for the National Junior Sedan Title. Here he would win all four of his qualifying races to start the feature race on pole position, leading the opening few laps before succumbing to issues and finishing a credible eleventh. A week later Blake headed to Makit Hardware Narrogin Speedway for the WA State Title looking for revenge and in what would be his final meeting as a Junior competitor, he would claim three wins and a second from his four qualifying races to again start on pole in the final, where he would lead every lap and become just the third driver in history to claim the WA State Junior Sedan Title back to back. Speedway Sedans WA would like to congratulate Blake once again and widh him all the best for his future in the sport.

08.01.2022 2020 SSA NATIONAL STREET STOCK AND MODIFIED SEDAN TITLES CANCELLED Speedway Sedans Australia wishes to advise competitors that the 2019/2020 SSA National Street... Stock Title and 2019/2020 SSA National Modified Sedan Titles that were scheduled to occur in the latter part of the year in Tasmania have now been cancelled. With the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 crisis around the country at present, Speedway Sedans Australia along with the relevant host venues were left with no option but to cancel the 2019/2020 National Titles for SSA Street Stocks and SSA Modified Sedans. Speedway Sedans Australia CEO Greg Lynd explains "It is with regret that our organisation has to announce that these eagerly anticipated National Titles will not go ahead later in the year due to the current situation around the COVID-19 pandemic". "It had been hoped that the border restrictions would have been relaxed by the time the two National Titles were to occur in Tasmania but as time has gone on that is now an unlikely scenario" Lynd continues. As a result of these cancellations Speedway Sedans Australia can announce that the 2022/2023 SSA National Street Stock Title has been allocated to the Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway in Latrobe Tasmania. The 2022/2023 SSA National Modified Sedan Title has been allocated to the Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway with dates for both events to be confirmed in the months ahead. Speedway Sedans Australia would like to thank the promotional teams and host clubs at both the Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway and Cranes Combined Cranes Carrick Speedway along with the competitors from both classes for their patience, understanding and co-operation as we navigate these unprecedented times together. An announcement regarding the 2019/2020 SSA National Production Sedan Title to be held at the Ellenbrook Speedway in Western Australia will be released in the coming days ahead. Ends Release

07.01.2022 In the early hours of this morning (4:20am) another bunch of absolute scum decided to try their luck at breaking into the club rooms at the speedway. Not only did they destroy another window but they stupidly thought that ripping the alarm keypad off the wall would stop that really loud siren (BTW it didn’t). Hopefully with any luck the fingerprints and blood left and then found by the police and the forensics team will point them in the direction to the slugs crawling around this great town of ours!

02.01.2022 Ellement Wins Kalgoorlie Showdown! Steven Ellement has made his way to the top step of the podium once again, this time claiming the third round of the Stainles...s Fastener Supplies West Coast Series, proudly presented by Freo Group Pty Ltd, held at the Kalgoorlie Speedway. In what was the second night of racing in a row for many of the competitors, Ellement again showed his class in the field of eighteen drivers, having a perfect night to claim both heat wins, the pole shuffle event and then lead every lap of the twenty five lap feature. Ellement would start on the front row for the feature alongside Chris Dymock, but it was Ryan Higgs coming from position four to slot into second behind Ellement as the race went green. Higgs looked briefly underneath Ellement as they came out of turn four, but this would prove to be just one of very few opportunities to even sneak a look past Ellement throughout the race. With one lap complete the yellows came out for a stranded Carl Della, then the red lights came on a lap or so later for Tyler Carter. Cody Turacchio had a front panhard break in turn four, seeing him spin, with Carter going high to miss him, hitting the wall coming onto the front straight, pirouetting and then rolling heavily. He emerged shaken but unhurt while Turacchio was able to restart from the rear. The first attempt at a restart didn’t last long as Ellement an Higgs touched, but the second attempt was much better, with Ellement again settling into the lead ahead of Higgs, Dymock and Marshman. A few laps later the race was under reds again as Ted Street found himself on his side, his up and down weekend continuing while Dymock found himself in second and Marshman third after Higgs was relegated for an indiscretion. As the laps wound down, Higgs was able to work his way back into fifth past Brendan Wright, then wrestle fourth off Gavin Casey who had made his own way into fourth place from position eleven on the grid before retiring. Back up front though and it was all Ellement, grabbing the win ahead of Dymock, Marshman and Higgs. A number of drivers played their Ace Cards over the weekend and this will certainly make the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series overall points very interesting indeed, with a full list to be released shortly. The fourth round of the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series will be held at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway on the 5th of December.
