25.01.2022 YEAR 5 CAMP UPDATE: We have arrived at Bucca Retreat and set up our cabins. We had a delicious morning tea of fruit and cinnamon donuts before playing some team games. Our lunch was chicken schnitzel burgers before we went swimming and completed the obstacle course. An afternoon of free time was much welcomed by the kids before dinner.

25.01.2022 YEAR 5 CAMP PICS: more pics from today!!!

25.01.2022 YEAR 5 CAMP UPDATE: Wow! What a HUGE day! It started with breakfast (pancakes, cereal, toast & fruit) before we headed out to canoe, swim and work through the obstacle course. A morning tea break (fresh scones with jam & cream and fruit) before we swapped groups. After lunch (hotdogs), we headed into the bush for 2 hours of laser squirmish. We had afternoon tea (ice blocks & fruit) before hitting the waterslide for a few hours. Needless to say, some of the kids were exhausted and dozed off after dinner (lasagne and chips with icecream with topping for dessert). A movie and bed finished our awesome day!!! The kids have been AMAZING. We have not had any tears and everyone has been following the Kalkie 5Cs.

15.01.2022 SCIENCE WEEK- Leaders Report For National Science Week, the Reef Guardian Leaders and Year 2/3K were excited to participate in a live virtual dive into the ocean and introduction to the Great Barrier Reef, with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. We were excited when the new GBRMPA CEO, Mr Josh Thomas, said he would love to visit us in Bundaberg to see our Reef Guardian work and visit the new Mon Repos Turtle Centre. We also asked Chief Scientist, Dr David Wachenfel...d, what impacts most on the Great Barrier Reef at the moment. He advised us of four issues: fishing, water quality & pollution, coastal development and the greatest threat, climate change from greenhouse gas emissions. We can all help by : reducing our electricity use choosing saying no to plastic and choosing paper alternatives using cloth bags supporting local food producers buying in bulk reducing food waste being careful to choose clothing that will last and not be a fad that ends up in landfill washing in cold water taking your rubbish home from the beach taking 3 for the sea

14.01.2022 Mark these dates in your calendar!

09.01.2022 REEF GUARDIAN TRIP On a recent whale watching trip, our reef guardian leaders were lucky enough to witness a pod of 5 whales frolicking out the front of the the Lady Musgrave Experience luxury catamaran, The Empress, for much of their time, with numerous other whales also around. Two humpback whales simultaneously breached very close to the boat - that was amazing! All of the students loved the experience and were excellently behaved. Our Reef Guardian leaders also had the pleasure of meeting Brett Lakey, CEO Lady Musgrave Experience who also showed them the new Musgrave underwater accommodation and observatory in construction.

08.01.2022 Authentic Learning Experiences: When writing, it is important to have an audience for your text. This term, 3J shared their narratives with PH. Not only does this allow the 3J students to showcase their amazing work, it also inspired the PH students to keep learning so they, too, can write amazing stories.

06.01.2022 Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances the P&C is unable to offer Tuckshop this week. Sorry for the inconvenience.

06.01.2022 Mrs Findlay would like to thank the parents and community for their ongoing support during 2020. It was a year sent to test us, but a great year- all the same! Kalkie SS may only be a small school, but the students have the benefit of being given the chance to become involved in so many extraordinary opportunities, even in a year that tried to stop them all! We are very lucky to be surrounded by such amazing staff and students, who defied the odds to find ways to make 2020 a ...year to remember- for more than COVID-19. We understand that it was frustrating for some to not attend the awards ceremony today, however we are still required to follow the EQ operating guidelines. Thank you for your patience as the ceremony ran a little longer than anticipated. It is important to recognise all of the students for their efforts. Recorded videos of the ceremony will be posted on our page over the next 24 hours. Thank you also goes to Mrs Harding for taking photos of the students today, to ensure parents have some memories to cherish.
