In line with all directives from the Federal and South Australian Governments we have implemented appropriate measures in cellar door to ensure the safety of our staff and any customers.... Our Cellar Door will be remaining open only for takeaway bottle sales until further notice. 22.01.2022 Divergent Tending to be different or develop in different directions. Moving away from what is expected The Barossa Valley is well known for classic varieties such as shiraz and grenache made in a traditional style. Troy Kalleske also forged his place in the Barossa creating these styles of wine and when he established Kalleske Wines with his brother Tony in 2002 they focused on the wine styles that would showcase the Kalleske vineyards. Troy was always adventurous and thi...s is reflected in his winemaking; so after a number of years of making famous Barossa styles, Troy began to experiment and started to create some wines that were a little different. This genre of wine is known within the Kalleske range as the Divergent Genre. Our Divergent Genre is where we play either in the vineyard or at the winery to give a different, somewhat offbeat, but focused interpretation of a traditional variety or style. This genre of wines now consists of four wines of Plenarius Viognier, Zeitgeist Shiraz, Parallax Grenache and CCCLXV Durif all with there own signature style that showcases the variety in a different way to the norm. At the time we were one of the first producers in Australia to make a skin contact white where white grapes are taken and treated like a red wine. Our Kalleske Greenock Shiraz was a awarded a Master Medal as well as being named as the 5th highest rated wine of the competition and our 2017 Kalleske Eduard Shiraz was was also awarded a Master medal but most importanly was awarded the best overall wine of the competition. 14.01.2022 2017 Kalleske Eduard Shiraz Master Medal and Overall highest rated wine The highest scoring wine in the entire Organic Masters tasting this year turned out to be for a top red from Australias Kalleske, called Eduard. Named after the Barossa producers founder, Karl Heinrich Eduard Kalleske, it uses Shiraz from a historic vineyard, first planted in 1905, ensuring it is a wine of great concentration but balance too. The result is seriously impressive, with layers of flavour... from blackcurrant to ripe plum, a touch of prune, sweet balsamic and black pepper, along with dried mint and fleshy cherry, supported by grippy tannins, to give a dry finish, that also features lingering roasted coffee and vanilla pod flavours from the barrel-ageing process.
