22.01.2022 Didn't really think about the silly secrets one before, but it really can be such a big thing

21.01.2022 ‘Always was, Always will be, celebrates the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and recognises that the First Nations Peoples have occupied and cared for Australia for over 65,000 years. Kallista Kindergarten acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Country and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present. 18.01.2022 Interesting idea

18.01.2022 The research behind why taking a deep breath, when you are feeling anxious overwhelmed helps - a strategy we frequently use with children. With other suggested strategies to use during this time of stress.

17.01.2022 'Challenges will help me grow'Kristen Wiens Positive self-talk is important for mindset growth and your inner voice plays a big role in that. Be kind to yourself.

16.01.2022 What an awesome play space! Such a variety of loose parts, which naturally flows into so many possibilities for exploration and learning. Plus the large space .... and always the time.

16.01.2022 NATURE PLAY: Queensland's biggest sensory park has officially opened, and it's right here in Cairns. The Centenary Lakes playground gives kids the chance to get up close and personal with nature... and there are some extra special features for children with disabilities.

15.01.2022 Ready, Set, Big School! This is a great PlaySchool episode about starting school. The episode supports children to build social and emotional readiness, nurture resilience and encourage independence. How fabulous that Anthony Semann collaborated with PlaySchool on this episode.... Kiya practising opening up her lunch box of a healthy snacks Little Ted tying shoe laces Morris packing the school bag The first day of school playing with blocks. "Instead of the focus being on the 3 ‘R’s, it’s all about the 6 ‘C’s; Confidence, Creativity, Curiosity, Cooperation, Commitment, & Communication and the 3 ‘I’s; Improvisation, Investigation, Imagination". (from the article I wrote for the ABC. This is included in the PlaySchool educator notes in the comments). Great to see Kiya, Little Ted and Morris playing with blocks in their first year of school. Play was the main focus of the Vic DeT Professional Development for Prep teachers over the last month- emphasising a stronger focus on play-based learning and social and emotional development to ensure children have an effective transition to school after the disrupted 2020 preschool year. There is a PDF in the comments that includes early education notes on this episode and also a link to other resources on school readiness. Via Louise Dorrat

15.01.2022 Crocheting is a fantastic skill to pass onto children, supports fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, self esteem, creativity, exploration, patience, calming and being focused and in the moment ... if you have the skill don’t miss an opportunity to share and pass it onto the children in your life

14.01.2022 Kevin was just 6-years-old when he was abandoned in a trailer. For five days, Kevin and his two brothers (ages 3 and 8) were left waiting. This kind of traumati...c experience could have easily lead Kevin down a difficult path. In fact, it almost did. Just a few years later Kevin found himself in a fight with the new kid at school. Reflecting back, he relates it more as two pups roughhousing rather than an actual fight. But, once it was over, rather than responding in violence, the young boy extended an olive branch and invited Kevin over for peanut butter and jelly. This story of kindness may seem simple, but for Kevin it changed everything. That day he met, Ms. Lane, a local mom who opened her heart and home giving him the community and sense of belonging he’d never experienced before. Since then, Kevin has thrived, going on to collect an impressive number of accolades, such as having served for a decade as a language translator for the Air Force (fluent in 5 languages), becoming the Head Athletic Trainer for the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, and going on to become a creative Katalyst for Fortune 500 powerhouses such as Nike, Starbucks, Target, Walt Disney, the NBA, and Adidas just to name a few. How did Kevin achieve all these things? The need to belong is woven deep into our DNA. Feeling connected not only stems back to our innate need to be seen, understood, and to be cared for, but it can dramatically change lives (scientifically improving our health, helping prevent depression, improving academic performance, etc.) Nobody knows this better than our author, Kevin Carroll. Ms. Lane changed his outlook on belonging and, for him, everything changed after that. Kids everywhere face difficult situations and adversity every day, even if it’s not obvious on the surface. That’s why we believe it is never too early to teach kids how to tackle tough topics like learning to love yourself for who you are and how to appreciate others in return. 13.01.2022 Awesome news, Premier Daniel Andrews said the $169.6 million scheme would offer free kindergarten for three and four-year-olds in funded programs, and reduced fees for three-year-olds in unfunded, sessional kinder. Shame Yarra Rangers doesn't get funded three year old until 2022 - but still reduced fees is a step in the right direction.... https://www.abc.net.au//victoria-announces-free-k/12867662

10.01.2022 Kids need to move. It’s part of who they are at that age, Megan says. It’s important to remember to give them time to do it.

09.01.2022 An anthropologist invited children from an African tribe to play a game. He placed a bowl filled with sweet fruit by a tree. He addressed the children saying: ...The one who gets to the tree first will be rewarded with all of the sweet fruits. When he signaled the children to start the race, they locked their hands together and ran toward the tree. They sat down at the tree together and shared the fruit. The astonished anthropologist asked the children why they had run together when each one of them had the opportunity to have all of the fruit for themselves. The children replied Ubuntu . Is it possible for one to be happy when everyone else is sad? Ubuntu means: I exist because we exist. See more
