05.01.2022 An easy explanation

04.01.2022 This may be controversial, but... supplements and training aids alone will not make a very uncomfortable horse with an undiagnosed lameness sound. Where they ma...y mask and encourage the horse to push through the pain, it would not be considered as correct management/treatment. After scrolling through social media yesterday evening, my feed was full of posts of people posting videos of their unsound horses, asking what training aids or supplements to use to improve their horses movement. And it’s truly heartbreaking. Identifying and treating a lameness issue is not always straightforward, which is why it’s crucial to enlist the advice of a veterinarian in addition to a wider team of a qualified farrier, veterinary physiotherapist, trainer, saddler, dentist and nutritionist in order to provide multifaceted care to treat effectively. Your horses multidisciplinary team is there to help and support, and this is why my inbox is always open to all my clients and followers free of charge for anyone wanting to discuss anything. Posting for advice and consulting with other horse owners in a similar position to ask experiences is a different matter, as I am a massive advocate for communicating and discussing openly. Yet, a horse not moving correctly due to pain and lameness will likely not be treated by sole use of a training aid. In cases where your horse may not be 100%, speak with your vet and veterinary physiotherapist in order to ascertain the reason why this might be. Often little niggles can be a early sign of a subclinical lameness, and when treated early this can improve the prognosis and return to full function.
