24.01.2022 Great fishing and lovely weather up here as usual with mid 30’s everyday and coolish nights around 10 degrees. Not many tourists around so it’s the perfect time to visit the incredible Honeymoon Bay, WA and McGowans Sunset Beach camps just north of town
23.01.2022 Kalumburu is Western Australia's most northerly town. Rich in history and Aboriginal culture. Oh and the fishing and scenery ain't bad either!! Join me ...on an Adventure to remember in 2020! Custom tours and Tag-along tours available May - September 2020. Tag your mates and plan that trip of a lifetime! Cheers Matt Flinders from McGowans beach for the cracking photos
20.01.2022 the new caretaker #PaulLindfield at McGowans Sunset Beach has kindly agreed today to take over the role as volunteer admins of this page. I’m leaving Kalumburu tomorrow and will no longer be an admin on here. All the very best to everyone. Cheers. Matt

04.01.2022 TOURISTS CAN LEGALLY DRINK ALCOHOL AT BOTH BEACH CAMPS TOURISTS, ALCOHOL AND KALUMBURU For the last 20-years or so, local by-laws in the Kalumburu community meant no alcohol was allowed to be consumed, sold or transported into the town. Alcohol was still getting into town illegally via sly-grog runners etc, and it was still causing major issues (like domestic violence and general fighting amongst the community) despite the good intentions of the by-laws. ... Early last year the WA government strengthened this to make Kalumburu a designated DRY COMMUNITY, and a 20km ‘dry community’ circle was drawn around the town of Kalumburu - see below. This is now legislation and law, and police have far greater powers to enforce it. In practical terms this means: HONEYMOON BAY beach camp is outside of the 20km ring, so the restrictions don’t apply to them. MCGOWANS SUNSET BEACH camp is within the 20km ring, BUT an exemption has been given to them so tourists can legally drink alcohol within a 500m circle of the McGowans camp. KALUMBURU MISSION CAMPGROUND is within the 20km ring and no exemption applies, so alcohol CANNOT be consumed there. - SO TOURISTS CAN LEGALLY DRINK ALCOHOL AT BOTH BEACH CAMPS NORTH OF KALUMBURU REGARDLESS OF WHICH BEACH CAMP YOU DECIDE TO STAY AT, TRANSITING THROUGH KALUMBURU WITH ALCOHOL IS LEGAL ONLY IF YOU ABIDE BY THE FOLLOWING: 1) The alcohol must not be given to (or sold to) any of the locals. 2) Do not tell any of the locals you have alcohol in your car if asked. 3) Alcohol must NOT be visible from the outside of the vehicle. Failing to abide with these rules will mean trouble with the police, including confiscation and potential prosecution.
