25.01.2022 What makes an agricultural worker so unique? With the current state entry restrictions surrounding Covid-19 and government discussions regarding what professions count as essential services, we are having significant difficulty getting our stockteam into the region in order to commence work. There have been questions posed on what makes an agricultural worker essential compared to other community jobs, and why we can’t simply engage recently unemployed people in our own s...tate. In light of this, we have decided to outline what qualities and skills make work candidates in our industry so unique. Firstly, our staff must have experience and skills at working in very close proximity with livestock. Our cattle are the reason we do the job, so our staff need the ability to work them efficiently, safely and to the highest quality. Work ethic no matter the weather, mood or job. Our staff accept that the work days are long and you’re not always going to enjoy the job. It’s not always riding off into the sunset and drinking beers on the tank stands! Isolation! Everyone around the world currently is facing a similar isolation to that which many of us in the agricultural industry face everyday; our friends aren’t around the corner to catch up with, events can be so far away that going is an impossibility, and facetime is the only way we see our relatives. Truly being multiskilled. Excellence at fixing fences isn’t going to help when a cow is having trouble calving, and being a dab hand at horsework isn’t going to get a pump going. Our employees need not only the dexterity to be multiskilled, but the humility to learn a new skill from scratch. Above all, our work candidates must show a true passion for the industry that we work in and the animals we work with. Our dedicated and skilled staff are the reason we can maintain the high level of animal welfare we have. We pride ourselves on obtaining a quality of staff that means our cattle are in the best of hands and because of this, this is not a job that anyone and everyone could do.

James Camp took the bike down the road to check on the horses, he found he was sharing it with another traveller. Kalyeeda station

10.01.2022 To date we’ve had 500mm this wet season, pretty accurate to say things are getting very wet on the flood plains around the Fitzroy River! Nookanbah man and Kalyeeda ringer, Tjay Mulligan rescued this calf from the flood plain. You’re a true legend Tjay!
07.01.2022 This is a major issue we’re currently facing. Half our stockcamp is currently stuck in the NT, unable to cross the WA border. Without these trained and experienced livestock workers it’ll be near on impossible for us to maintain our high standards of animal welfare. Regardless of whether or not the live export industry is able to continue operating during this pandemic, we still have 9000 head of cattle that need to be managed and cared for. This is not a job that just anyone could do, it takes specific skills, knowledge and a lot of training.

04.01.2022 The last few weeks have been pretty massive for us! We started second round of mustering to pull off weaners and with the year being so dry and hot we decided to bring the cows and their weaners into portable yards set up at each bore point - rather than walking them the 10-18km to the larger permanent yards. So followed three weeks of setting up portable yards, mustering the cows into the yards, drafting the cattle, trucking the weaners, then packing up the yards and settin...g up at the next bore point! It’s been hard work with long days and the heat hasn’t made things any easier, but everyone in the crew have really stepped up and given 110%.
03.01.2022 In 2020, Peter Camp from Kalyeeda station has the goal of dispersing his cattle, so he has less animals at each watering point at one time Located deep in the... Kimberley, Peter has multiple Pioneer water tanks across his property, all designed for gravity feeding. In previous experiences with other tank companies, Peter didn’t receive the support he needed that’s something he knows he can rely on Pioneer for Without water, we haven’t got a property or business. Watch how important consistent water sources are for Peter’s operation #PioneerWaterTanks #LeadingTheWayInWater
