25.01.2022 Statement on residents COVID-19 diagnosis and the need for hospital care 6 August 2020 To residents, resident representatives and staff... Fourteen residents of Kalyna Care have now returned positive tests for coronavirus, prompting Kalyna Care management and Leading Age Services Australia (LASA), the representative organisation of aged care, to reiterate calls for transfers to hospital for infected residents. Seven residents returned positive tests on Wednesday - two from the secure dementia wing, five from the Sosna wing and all have been segregated to maximise the safety of other residents. Kalyna Care is hopeful of receiving urgent additional resources from government and health authorities to assist with the care and protection of all residents. Key to this is ensuring that residents have access to appropriate hospital care. People in aged care facilities who test positive must be permitted to transfer to hospitals, where lifesaving care and infection quarantine facilities are available. As a result of strong advocacy to transfer residents to hospitals to ensure their safety and the safety of other residents, 5 residents diagnosed with COVID19 were transferred to a hospital late this evening. Aged care facilities like Kalyna Care are not hospitals but homes for our residents, and therefore when unwell they should have the right to appropriate care in a hospital setting. Seven care staff have tested positive for COVID-19 and are in self-quarantine, along with another two who have been deemed at risk of infection. Further staff tests are pending. All rooms and public areas at Kalyna Care have been deep cleaned by professional cleaners. Contact: Pearl Forrester Mobile: 0406424618 Email: [email protected]

KC gratefully received several pallets of PPE items from the government 5. We have staff who have asked to stay at KC and we will be providing accommodation in the ILU units and meals to all staff during breaks 7. 17.01.2022 7 August 2020 Update on Hospital Transfers Today, a further 10 residents who tested negative but with high needs were transfered to hospitals. The State Health and private hospitals that have kindly opened their doors to aged care providers have strict criteria about the transfers. Unfortunately, the hospital was unable to take residents who are very mobile as it was not equipped to manage residents walking around. As advised in last night's post, Kalyna Care will call all f...amilies to if the resident has been nominated for a transfer. The situation is very fluid. Therefore we were able to transfer 15 residents out to a hospital in the last 24 hours. We continue to provide you with updates as they come to hand. See more

17.01.2022 Since Thursday, Djerriwarrh Health Services has completed a full room-to-room assessment and all residents are receiving personal care, food and medication. Kalyna has undergone a complete deep clean, and all residents have been tested for COVID-19. We have contacted the next or kin for all residents who tested positive, and we in the process of contacting the families of residents who tested negative.... Yesterday we also ensured that residents with positive tests and residents with negative tests are in completely seperate areas within Kalyna with dedicated teams to avoid any cross over between these units. We are committed to continue improving the standard of care for all residents, and preventing any further spread of COVID-19. Again, thanks to everyone for your continued patience and understanding.

15.01.2022 12 August 2020 Statement on residents' COVID-19 diagnosis To residents, resident representatives and staff... To date, Kalyna Care have the following residents and staff who tested positive of COVID19: Residents: 31 residents with 2 residents who sadly succumbed to the virus. We extend our deepest condolences and sorrow to the families. May Perpetual Light shine on them, and may they rest in peace. Of the 31 residents, 4 who returned a negative result at the facility, were diagnosed in the hospital with the virus. 5 residents who were diagnosed with COVID at the facility, were transferred to hospital. There remain 20 residents in our facility with the virus. 11 are accommodated in the MH wing and 9 in the Sosna wing. Staff: 17 Kalyna Care staff and 2 agency staff. All families whose loved one has been diagnosed have been contacted. The Federal and State Government sent a large contingent of clinical staff on Tuesday 11 August to help with desperately needed clinical care. However Kalyna Care remains short on PCAs and night staff which is being remedied with help from the Djerriwarrh Health Service to coordinate another surge workforce to our facility. About 8 cleaners were arranged tonight (12/8/2020) by Wyndham Clinic to clean the whole facility. This is on top of the regular overnight cleaners to clean high touch points all night. 8 cleaners will return in the morning (13/8/2020) for a 12 hour shift to continue cleaning and removing contaminated waste. Waste management is a major problem and has been raised with the Commonwealth since the early days. It will be remedied by the government via its waste management contract. In the meantime, it has been suggested by AUSMAT to hire a shipping container to put the contaminated waste inside. Over the next few days a new clinical leadership team will be leading Kalyna Care out of this crisis. Kalyna Care thank you for your support.

12.01.2022 8 August 2020 Statement on residents COVID-19 diagnosis To residents, resident representatives and staff... Following the third COVID swab test for residents, eight residents returned a positive result. A staff member who tested independently also returned a positive result. Of the eight residents, six residents were from the secured dementia wing, 1 from Sosna and 1 from Topolya (transferred to hospital prior to results). All have been segregated to specific areas for care. With some of the COVID diagnosed residents already transferred to hospital, we have remaining 15 residents in our facility who have been diagnosed. All families whose loved one has been diagnosed have been contacted. Following strong advocacy to the Commonwealth for additional staff, Kalyna Care received much needed relief of 6 staff from interstate. The group is a mix of clinical, care and hotel services staff and some with experience in infectious environments. However, Kalyna Care remains resolute in its call for more staffing from the Commonwealth and transfer to hospital of residents diagnosed with COVID. Aged Care providers are held to account to manage an outbreak, yet there are not enough staff to appoint to manage the outbreak in Victoria. Despite the limited resources, we continue to care for our residents as best we can. We are mindful of the many concerned phone calls and will be organising a ZOOM meeting for those who have an e-mail. We were not successful the last time but we are going to try for an evening ZOOM meeting this week. Contact: Pearl Forrester Mobile: 0406424618 Email: [email protected]

A deep clean of Kalyna Care will be undertaken immediately, to minimise the spread of any infection. 07.01.2022 Residents attending Thursday Church after doing their 1:1 morning exercises.

06.01.2022 Dear valued resident representatives, Thank you for the many well wishes and words of support to our staff. They genuinely appreciate them. Keep them coming. Our original cohort of kitchen staff are nearing the end of their self isolation. However, it would be prudent to obtain clearance from the Dept of Health. The group has had 2 tests and most have returned negative twice. Hopefully they will be cleared by the health authorities and return to their usual workplace. Follo...wing much advocacy about transferring residents to hospital to ensure safety, the PHU (Public Health Unit - State Health) is considering transfer of some residents who tested negative but requiring high care. The environment is quite fluid and when places open up, the capacity is very quickly absorbed. Therefore we will be in touch with families whose loved ones are currently without the virus to map out those who can be transferred and those who choose not to be transferred. This way when the opportunity arises, we are ready for the PHU to nominate those who choose to be transferred. We thank you for your support and cooperation. The AUSMAT team will be visiting for the second time in one week and will focus more on infection control particularly in contaminated areas and bedding down work flows. Some AUSMAT personnel have logistics management skills and offer a good sounding board on staff movement to minimise spread. Tomorrow 7 August will be the 3rd COVID test for residents. Tomorrow 7 August is also Aged Care Employee Day. So please send in your GIFs and emojis to this post as I am sure staff would appreciate some relief. As always Kalyna Care will provide you with updates as they come to hand. Thank you.

Our lifestyle coordinators continue to spend time with residents and arranging video calls to families. We want to again thank everyone for their patience and understanding. The situation in Kalyna continues to change each day, and we will continue to provide updates on our progress.

With six residents found to be positive on Saturday, 1 August, the AUSMAT experts are advising on cohorting of residents and care design, so that non-positive residents are not exposed to infection. Kalyna Care also has an acute care plan for the six residents who have tested positive, with dedicated staff designated to look after them, to minimise any chance of coronavirus spreading across the home. The Western Health Aged Care Liaison has been visiting the residents daily. Health authorities are also preparing a surge workforce, with addition replacement staff ready to ensure quality care is delivered, while the eight care staff are in self-quarantine. Kalyna Care has had intensive deep cleans over the weekend, to minimise the spread of any infection. 02.01.2022 7 August 2020 Dear valued resident representatives We have a further 3 staff members test positive. All are self isolating. This means further staff who test negative may stand down due to close contact protocols. This brings the total of staff diagnosed of the virus to 12.... The number of residents diagnosed of the virus remain at 14. Kalyna Care has appointed additional cleaners to disinfect high touch points 24 hours a day on 12 hour shifts. We are using N95 masks as added precaution. Residents are being cared for by staff albeit missing the luxury of time to chat for too long. We apologise to residents for not being able to stay too long with them. We truly are sorry. But we continue to provide clinical and personal care per each care needs of our residents. As always we will continue to provide updates as they come to hand.

01.01.2022 Day 3 Report Today was a day of planning for various scenarios and continuing emphasis on PPEs and special care of residents. The Leisure and Lifestyle team was amazing to organise in room activities to cater for different preferences. Below is a summary of what happened today: 1. Residents continue to be served meals in their rooms. As it is a tray service and staff have to change to a new PPE for each resident, all meals are slower than is normal. However, we provide snacks... in between and other knick knacks to compensate for the unavoidable delay 2. The DHHS and Commonwealth Outbreak Squad visited the site and provided valuable advice about infection control in a COVID lockdown. These clinicians have worked in recent high profile outbreaks in aged care homes and they are well versed with what needs to be done. 3. As advised earlier, the residents are scheduled for testing Thursday 30 July. The test teams will be on site and will test all residents. Staff will also be tested on the same day. 4. Residents continue to be closely monitored for symptoms with 2 3 times daily observations 5. Staff continue to practise good PPE management, safe distancing and frequent washing of hands. Some staff work 12 hour shifts which we are very grateful for, and others will put in a few extra hours over their regular shifts. So a big thank you and take care shout out to all Kalyna Care staff.

01.01.2022 Thank you to all Kalyna care employees for your dedication, support, and care of what you're given to our residents especially during this very challenging time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWlDuUVz6cg

01.01.2022 7 August 2020 Update on Letter from the Commission. Today resident representatives would have received via email a letter from the Commission advising you that it has issued a Notice to Agree to Act to Kalyna Care. In the letter, the Delegate of the Commissioner cites that the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (Commission) has taken regulatory action against Kalyna Care in relation to the COVID-19 outbreak at Kalyna Care.
