24.01.2022 Today we started to draw pictures for our pen pals in our letter exchange group. We have already received letters from children in Vietnam and Washington and Ohio USA.

24.01.2022 Thursday last week we started to pick the pears from our tree to eat before the birds and possums polish them off! The tree has produced an abundance of pears this year thanks to all the rain we have had. Lucky us! Our Lola couldn’t wait and ate it straight from the tree...such a great way appreciate fresh fruit -straight from the tree- no pesticides or chemicals whatsoever. And now know from first hand experience that pears come from a tree! Yum yum!

22.01.2022 One of our favourite books! Although The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day is on Sunday, we will be doing all things Hungry Caterpillar all of next week. Come dressed as the very hungry caterpillar, or in your favourite colours and we’ll be making our own crafty caterpillars.

21.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago the Kookaburra’s made a yummy Brazilian snacks. They worked together to add all the ingredients, mix, and place on a tray to go into the oven. And of course the best bit... eat them for afternoon tea.

20.01.2022 We are so happy to see more moths have emerged from their cocoons and have been very busy ‘getting married’ (as the preschoolers say ) and making eggs.

19.01.2022 Check out this very complex marble run carefully constructed using mathematical, critical thinking. Our preschoolers have cooperatively worked to create their own marble run. The first block on an incline to create momentum for the marble took a level of critical thinking that their brains will store for future use...especially at school and later life. Problem solving is such a valuable skill to develop.

18.01.2022 Here is just a quick brainstorm of what we (our 4-5 preschoolers) have learnt about our silk worms. Unfortunately they haven’t wanted to come out of their cocoons but nevertheless we’ll take up this opportunity to learn about death and we will be investigating why...still so much to learn yet!

17.01.2022 We have just started talking about the seasons in the Owl room. As we have just come into autumn Here’s some ideas of what fruit and vege are in season during autumn...ideas of what to include in the children’s healthy lunch boxes.

17.01.2022 There’s nothing better than a rainy day...and what do we do???? Swing through the muddy puddle of course!!

16.01.2022 The Owls received another letter from our pen pals overseas last week - from Lithuania. Included in the parcel was a tourist information book, their national flag and letters with information such as their national bird. We decided to reply with letters that included pictures of our Australian flag, our coat of arms and our national flower -the wattle. The owls chose to draw what they wanted to include in their letters. So much investigation is coming from our letter exchanges.

15.01.2022 Learning to spell out the letters in our names is one way we learn to identify letters, how we spell and pronounce letter name and prepares us to then know the letters when we learn to write our names.

12.01.2022 The first of our silkworm lifecycle documented drawing have come together nicely! Our preschoolers have learnt so much through this project.

10.01.2022 Because we love art so much we took inspiration from an artist by the name of Mavis Ngallametta. Her work is currently on exhibition in the art gallery in QLD. Mavis Ngallametta (1944-2019) made a profound contribution to arts and culture nationally and particularly in Queensland, her home state. An elder of the Putch clan and a cultural leader of the Wik and Kugu people of Aurukun, Mavis Ngallametta was one of the most well-regarded senior community-based artists in Australia.

09.01.2022 Our kookaburras were experimenting with colour and water absorption. They were having thought provoking conversations about absorption, hypothesising which colour absorbs the fastest, will they mix and if they mix what colour will it make. Such a fun (and little bit messy ) STEM experiment today.

09.01.2022 Role playing yesterday had the children making dumplings just like Oliva showed us a few weeks ago for Chinese New Year.

09.01.2022 Our latest favourite book is a traditional (aboriginal) story about the rainbow snake. Using our favourite art activity of drawing with black marker for our outline and then using water colours to compliment our picture, we have been using the rainbow snake as inspiration. As Pablo Picasso said: Every child is an artist! It is such a shame that we as adults become hindered with thoughts of what we can and can’t do! NOT here at preschool though! Our children are encourage to express themselves through beautiful artworks. Each piece is unique but ALL of them are valued and special!

08.01.2022 We had a very special surprise today! Just when we thought it was not going to happen two of our silk worms emerged as moths today. We were soooooo excited to see them and now can’t wait to see if we get more so the girl and boy moths can get busy making eggs.

07.01.2022 Our little plants have started to shoot already. Looks like our little Kookaburra’s have green thumbs

06.01.2022 Mark comes to help look after our environment each week...today he helps us move our hopscotch. Everyone wanted to help especially his usual weekly helpers...(or get in the way ) Poor Mark got the 20 questions....what are you doing? What’s that for?

05.01.2022 Our kookaburras are experimenting with colour mixing as well as building their fine motor skills at the moment

05.01.2022 We welcome safe risky play at Kamalei

04.01.2022 Some of our preschoolers love flowers! Using a picture and a vase of flowers at the art table for inspiration, our preschoolers are using skills such as knowledge of colour, perspective, fine motore control of the pencil/texta, imagination and past knowledge learnt to draw some beautiful, unique and colourful artworks of sunflowers.

03.01.2022 You might need to watch it a few time cause it goes really fast but this is good information for understanding SPD.

03.01.2022 William is absolutely obsessed with planets and anything space! In the kookaburra room ( our youngest children) have been learning about space, planets and of course we had to make our own solar system. Learning through an interest promotes intrinsic learning and a life long love of learning.

01.01.2022 We got to watch something very amazing!

01.01.2022 Have you noticed the leaves are falling from the trees? We have! We are discussing the seasons at the moment and as a result of our observation saw us practising our fine motor skills of ripping, tearing and cutting pieces of Autumn coloured paper to create our own leaves. Pictures of Autumn leaves were offered for provocation. But as usual we encourage their own expression through art to create what their hearts desire. Thus a beautiful sun -because that’s what Tempe sees outside as well as the leaves falling.
