We currently have 1.5kg cakes ($17), 1kg cakes ($13), individual mini-cakes ($2) and Christmas puddings ($13). Come and get them while we have stock!

23.01.2022 Canberra Relief Network Our club has accepted an invitation from the Tuggeranong Uniting Church at Erindale to assist in operating an emergency food distribution centre in the Tuggeranong area for the Canberra Relief Network. People in stress through job or wage loss in the COVID-19 pandemic can contact the Canberra Relief Network to ask for grocery hampers. Each hamper is calculated to provide basic non-perishable foodstuffs and other grocery items for a family of 4 for one week. Hampers are able to be delivered daily to the church where Lions work with church members to distribute the hampers to nominated recipients. Another way Lions are seeking to help their community.

16.01.2022 COVID19 Impacts In order to slow the spread of the COVID19 virus, our meeting scheduled for 24 March has been cancelled. A detailed plan on the way forward is being prepared.

12.01.2022 Today's Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Majura did not go according to the script. High winds created issues from the outset. Occasional burner blow out and difficulty keeping the BBQ hot with winds whipping through. Around 1PM Bunnings decided enough was enough, we are concerned for your safety, shut down and pack up. Short shift for the afternoon folk but we still turned a (very) small surplus for the day. Ah well, there is always next time. Friday 1 November at Bunnings Tuggeranong!

11.01.2022 Our next dinner meeting will be at the Canberra Southern Cross Club Tuggeranong on Wednesday 23 September. Members who wish will gather in the restaurant for a meal before the formal meeting kicks off upstairs at 7PM.

10.01.2022 Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September Lions from the Kambah Club together with Lions from across the ACT and Queanbeyan took part in working bees to help get Lions Youth Haven ready for summer. Lots of weeds to be slashed or pulled and grass or grass cut. Of course as part of such active events there must be some social activity and a bit of food! much achieved but more to do.

10.01.2022 A busy weekend for the Canberra Kambah Lions Club. After quite a long time in Covid recess, the weekend 24-25 October was quite busy. Saturday saw several members involved in a rainy day house clean out to help a family where a a family member who lived alone had been recently diagnosed with dementia and admitted to care. The family need assistance to clear and clean the premises for sale to pay for the care. Sunday was coldish and windy but we enjoyed getting back to Bunnings for a sausage sizzle. Not quite the same as the Covid precautions made for a bit different workspace. But it was a successful day! We were out in public, cooking snags and being safe! Our Activities Account to support the community is starting to look a bit better after a long lean time! And we are doing it again next Sunday at Majura Park!

09.01.2022 For those who wonder about the value of stamp collection and gathering of used stamps. Thanks Lion Ken for your work for our club on this project. https://www.northerndailyleader.com.au//who-knew-stamp-co/

09.01.2022 A Little Girl’s Life Threat Geoff’s and Kate’s three year old daughter, Marleigh, has life threatening health issues. Her immune system was attacking her brain and an international team of specialists were unable to explain why. Tests ruled out stroke and brain tumour. Marleigh has been diagnosed with acute autoimmune encephalitis resulting in seizures. Each seizure is potentially fatal. Marleigh can’t attend school, her diet needs to be closely managed, and she has multip...le specialists and weekly therapy appointments, some of which are in Sydney because there are no paediatric neurologists in Canberra. She gets very tired and takes lots of medications. Marleigh also has severe progressive epilepsy that has become unresponsive to medication. She receives monthly plasma infusions. If you have donated plasma in Canberra, your plasma may be keeping Marleigh alive. Geoff and Kate have come close to losing their little girl. Having to sit next to your three-year-old in an intensive care unit just seems like such an unreasonable amount of responsibility to put on a little girl, but she just shocks everybody with her fight. Mum Kate is resolute her little girl will do these things again. She can go from being a happy and healthy little girl playing to falling into a massive seizure in the space of a couple of minutes. This is the reality of our life, but she is made of the toughest stuff. She has already had to re-learn how to walk and talk after being put in an induced coma. As Lions we asked how we could assist. Kate said doctors had advised that heat was something that could trigger Marleigh’s seizures. With summer bearing down, the Kambah Lions, with the assistance of a grant from the Australian Lions’ Foundation, have installed a ducted air conditioning system in their home before the really hot weather set in to give this brave little child a better chance and a more comfortable life. 03.01.2022 Thanks to all that visited our gift Wrapping at South.Point in the lead up to Christmas. We enjoyed meeting so many people from our community and beyond - occasionally finding time to share some information about Lions. Due to your genorosity, we were able to already send $3,000 towards Disaster Response and Recovery tasks following the bushfires. Your generous help has allowed us to help others. We will continue to help through the recovery phase over coming months and years.
