But there are fewer boys than girls enjoying Pony Club and Pony Club Australia is keen to find out why. We are reaching out to males aged 12 and over to find out their thoughts on Pony Club. All current and past male members, as well as males who have never been involved with horses, are invited to take the survey. Here's the link: https://tinyurl.com/PCAboyssurvey

12.01.2022 Here’s a reminder of some of the most recent Covid-19 measurements that Pony Club NSW have put in place to keep our communities safe: Riders must compete and t...rain within their zone or nearby zones (this relates specifically to those whose clubs are on the border of two zones) where possible No overnight stays to be held in the next six weeks (from 21st August onwards) Clubs and zones that were scheduled to hold school holiday camps may look at holding multiple day instruction days with members returning home each day Restriction of travel for those members of clubs not located within their local area Clubs and zones must complete a risk assessment and Covid Safety plan for all activities Exclusion of anyone who seems unwell or has recently travelled to an ‘affected area’ as listed on NSW Health website Clubs and zones must monitor NSW Health website and revise and update these plans accordingly regarding restriction of attendees from Covid hotspots Communicate clearly to all members your expectations on their attendance including but not limited to the following: Nomination process Restrictions relating to parent/caregivers to one per rider only where possible Providing contactless options to nominate, provide Covid self-declarations, canteen orders etc. where possible Communicate new practice surround gear check (still contactless as per example risk assessment) Communicate details of PPE available noting that members should also carry their own personal hand sanitiser and attendees must all wear face masks including riders when they are not riding Provide signage at the venue to remind members about social distancing and good hygiene practices With school holidays just around the corner we want to encourage clubs and zones to safely hold their activities and hope that these guidelines help in some small way. For the full list of measurements please visit https://pcansw.org.au/management/risk-management. We understand that these extra restrictions will place an added burden onto committees who already have a lot to organise and we thank you all for your hard work and acknowledge that the sport relies heavily on our wonderful volunteers.

10.01.2022 FUN FACT FRIDAY!!

09.01.2022 HOT TIP TUESDAY!! To prevent gastric ulcers feed a small meal of HAY just before exercise. This will stimulate saliva production and provide fill in the stomach for protection. Horses are trickle feeders so should, in theory, always have a full stomach.

08.01.2022 One very important lesson to keep in mind when working with horses, always control your emotions!

07.01.2022 Are you aware of any plants in your paddocks that may be poisonous to horses? Many common plants in Australia are potentially poisonous to horses. This Field ...Guide has plenty of information to help you scope out your paddocks and keep your horse safe. https://www.horsecouncil.org.au/plants-poisonous-to-horses-1

06.01.2022 IT’S AN EMERGENCY!! The last few summers in Canberra have been testing to say the least and we all understand the need for a fire emergency plan, both for ou...rselves and our horses. But why stop there? How many of us have an emergency plan for our horses if they become sick or injured? Do you have a float? If not do you have access to a friend’s float and/or tow vehicle? Alternatively, we are fortunate to have some excellent transport companies in the ACT and surrounds. Kim at reception can provide you with some numbers, give her a call! Getting your horse to the hospital as soon as possible really can make the difference to a successful outcome. The horse can be examined and attended on arrival to create a plan for diagnostics and treatment. If required bloodwork can be performed and results are available within minutes to make the best decision for your horse and start appropriate treatment without delay. Has your horse been taught to load? Reliability is key when the pressure is on and tension is high. Emergencies often happen after hours and we are fumbling about trying to load by moonlight. A reliable loader is one less thing you need to worry about. Can you catch and lead ALL your horses? This includes foals. All foals should be handled and taught to lead. Get those foals handled early before it becomes a big job, it might just save their life! Also, if your foal is a colt, having them handled by the time you want them castrated is a great forward planning idea. When was the last time you re stocked your 1st aid kit? Basic items should include a thermometer, bandaging materials, tape, scissors, gloves, paper and pen. Our vets can often advise you over the phone on how to help your horse until we get there or what first aid should be applied before loading your horse on a float. What is your budget? It’s really difficult in the heat of the moment to think about the budget. Everyone’s situation is different and especially now with Covid19 budgets are tighter than ever. We highly recommend you think about what your horse’s options are before disaster strikes, having a plan gives you peace of mind that you are doing the right thing for your treasured horse. See more
