17.01.2022 INVITATION SATURDAY | 1 MAY | 2 -4 PM PRETTY BIRD ROSS POTTER SOLO EXHIBITION... Pretty Bird is a series of anthropomorphic sketches of Western Australian birds reflecting human characteristics to tell everyday stories. Artist Ross Potter draws birds dead or alive and manipulates their bodies to convey physical expressions of human pain. Birds become cloaks for his own emotions, as well as the people he has encountered. Each bird tells a different story. The representation of natural decay in Pretty Bird opens up a conversation around social stigma and the consequences of concealing suffering. Who are the dead birds left on the curb? And what are the inequalities that occur as a result? __________________________ @rosspotter_artist PRETTY BIRD 1 - 29 MAY 2021 KAMIL GALLERY CATHEDRAL SQUARE, 3 PIER STREET, PERTH ENVY the RAVEN Graphite on Paper, 2019 187cm x 139cm #rosspotter #kamilegallery #cathedralsquare

11.01.2022 The Story of Old Stone Face Frame size 90cm x 70cm (ea) Image size 57cm x 76cm (ea) Graphite on Paper ... 2019 I am always looking for visual ques in nature, little stories that unfold with certain natural objects that I find on my visits to local reserves. This little figure almost comes across as having different opinions each time I look at it. I decided to approach this woodchip from different angles and used mirrors to get a reverse dimension of the subject while sketching. @rosspotter_artist

07.01.2022 Using Graphite on Paper, Potter dedicates his time to capturing the details in our everyday lives and finds escapism can exist in the simplicity of our very own reality. Altering perspectives and challenging our sense of place, Potter’s work captures the slow evolution of the urban landscape and how we as a community interact with our surroundings. As we fall in and out of love, it is the romance in these minute details that brings us all together. Previous work of life-size ...drawing of Perth Zoo elephant Tricia @fremantleartscentre. 06.01.2022 Ross Potter Splitting Rock Frame size 90cm x 71cm Image size 76cm x 57cm ... Graphite on Paper 2019 Artist statement Cloven by time and temperature, this seemingly delicate placement of jagged obstructions decorate the land with idle formations. Moulding ever so slowly beyond our comprehension, the sturdy minerals become markers for countless stories throughout history and harnessed correctly, evolve into essential tools for survival on this hard land. @rosspotter_artist

03.01.2022 Designers enjoy the risks of uncertainty. We love the potential of the fuzzy line that separates the possible from the impossible. Dreaming about and exploring the realms of the possible and impossible is what we do and it is almost always uncertain in its outcome. This calls for reflection on the core values of architecture: identifying why some buildings work and others don’t, asking why some spaces feel uplifting and others are miserable.
