24.01.2022 Dear Friends of Kamira, We were delighted to receive comment from Sophie Cotsis NSW Shadow Minister for Women, Ageing, Disability and Multiculturalism. Sophie has been a strong advocate for women's services. Please find her response below. I support the exceptional work that Kamira is doing helping women to realise a positive change for themselves and their children. Since it was founded in 1982, Kamira has been at the forefront of providing essential care and assistance to ...women and children. Our society is increasingly aware of issues such as domestic and family violence, drug addiction and mental health. However, it is not enough to pay lip-service to these issues - we must take action. The Baird Government should meet with Kamira and provide this vital service with funding certainty so it can meet the significant demand for the important services it provides. Sophie Cotsis
22.01.2022 It is with great thanks we post this photo today of the wonderful Caltex team on the Central Coast. They were the driving force behind a donation drive from Caltex customers that raised a whopping $6750 during the month of December. Thank you Caltex and thank you to the customers who gave to Kamira. Your donations will make a difference in the lives of the women and children entering treatment at Kamira.
20.01.2022 It's always refreshing to meet politicians who have a genuine understanding of the health system in Australia. Thank you for visiting Kamira, Emma McBride and for putting women and children's health in the forefront of your campaign.
20.01.2022 Ever wondered where the Dignity Bags end up? We were fortunate to be gifted dignity bags for the women and pregnant women at Kamira. Not only were they full of valuable items, but also inspiring, heart felt words from beautiful people in our community. Now this is Christmas! Our community spirit is strong.
16.01.2022 A big day of recognition for the work we all do at Kamira today. Lets hope all members of all political parties can recognise the importance of providing treatment for women experiencing problematic alcohol and other drug use. Thank you Stephen Jones MP, Emma McBride and Anne Charlton from the Shorten Labor Party for your incredible support of the vulnerable women of NSW.

13.01.2022 To all the amazing women who have been connected with Kamira, this could be a great opportunity to reconnect and help address stigmatism around alcohol and drug use still faced today.
12.01.2022 A 2.2 million dollar commitment for the women of NSW experiencing problematic alcohol and other drug use from the Shorten Labor Government announced today.
12.01.2022 Kamira is a member of the NADA Womens Alcohol and Other Drug services Network. Late last week we were able to meet with Minister Pru Goward and explain the request for treatment at the moment exceeds Kamira's capabilities by so far that we have had to 'close our books', that is we are not providing assessments for women seeking treatment for a four week period. Jarrah House and Kathleen York, two other residential womens services are in the same position. What a grim state NSW women and children are in. If you are seeking treatment at Kamira please call after the 14th December when we will be again offering assessments.
11.01.2022 Dear Friends of Kamira, Last night ABC reporter Jason Om's story on Kamira aired on Lateline. Here is the link: http://ab.co/1RKnwt4 Minister Prue Goward was approached for comment on the ongoing issue of 11 unfunded beds in the purpose built building. She responded with facts on the amount of money currently provided to Kamira yet failed to offer any insight into the matter which has now extended beyond 7 years. Last year Kamira received 620 enquiries and completed 190 as...sessments for its 5-7 month program. The service is currently funded to provide 11 beds. Operating at only half of the potential capacity isn't good enough! The reality is we could have two Kamira's and just begin to service the demand. The repercussions of politicians failing to act presents a huge real life cost to our community. Vulnerable women are being denied treatment for their alcohol and other drug addictions. The implications for this include: children being removed from their families, women and their children remaining in family violence relationships, deterioration of their physical and mental health condition, becoming involved in the corrections department and in same cases, leading to their death. Kamira will be approaching politicians for comment on the story, seeking their advice on how they can contribute to the solution. All responses will be posted on this page. Please join us in our efforts to provide accessible, evidence based alcohol and other drug treatment to all women across New South Wales, not just the lucky few that make it through the wait list.
