23.01.2022 March Newsletter. Dear Friends and Supporters, Please find below the latest KH Newsletter. We hope you enjoy reading it. We wish everyone a safe Easter. Link - https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/review

22.01.2022 We are sure all our supporters know that Westbourne Grammar is KH's major sponsor with the students holding a number of fundraising events throughout the year. Their Trivia & Auction night is a major source of fundraising and the event is always fully booked out. This year it is still being held via Zoom whilst those of us in Victoria will still be in lockdown. This provides our supporters with an opportunity to participate in this event from the comfort of your lounge room and enjoy a fun evening whilst assisting Westbourne & KH. Please click on the link which shows all the details regarding registration etc. Email Belinda ([email protected]) if you have any queries. We are extremely grateful to the Westbourne students for organising this event under the current conditions.

21.01.2022 Kampuchea House encourages all visitors to the temples to respect the local culture. Please read this important notice.

21.01.2022 On behalf of the residents, staff and committee we would like to wish all our wonderful supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you all for continuing to support us during such a difficult year. We hope that 2021 will be an easier year for everyone. Take care and stay safe over the holidays.

19.01.2022 Our kids recently experienced a great evening at a Phare Circus performance which was preceded by a delicious dinner at their cafe. The show features amazing acrobatics with original live music and tells Cambodian stories from folklore and modern society. Leng reports the kids were mesmerised by the skills of the acrobats. We thank our generous supporters Yvonne and Richard Seeley for covering the cost of this outing.

19.01.2022 We wish our residents and staff a "Happy Khmer New Year" and good luck and health for the next year. Normally at this time Cambodians take advantage of the three-day holiday and travel back to their provinces to celebrate with their families. Sadly, due to Covid, travel has been banned for two weeks and a curfew is in force between 8pm and 5am. So our kids and staff are staying in Siem Reap for new year and Leng will organise a party to celebrate the occasion. The office is closed from 12th-16th April.

16.01.2022 As all our residents have discovered the joys of bike riding around the various Angkor temples Leng organsied another ride recently to the Chau Say Tevoda temple. As you can see by the photos it was another enjoyable day out in the sunshine followed by snacks then a hearty dinner back at the house.

16.01.2022 whilst the schools were closed it was great to see the older kids helping the younger ones with their schoolwork (without being asked to do so by Leng!). Photo shows Rea (year 10) helping Somnang (year 3). Leng said Rea did an excellent job.

15.01.2022 With the sun shining it was the perfect day to take advantage of the newly built bike path out to the Angkor Wat temple complex. After hiring the bikes in town Leng and the kids enjoyed a pleasant ride along the trail which gave them some good exercise. As you can see from the photos the temple complex is almost deserted with the lack of tourists which is terribly sad. After some refreshments at one of the food stalls it was back to the house feeling somewhat tired but happy after such a fun day. As usual thanks to Leng for the photos.

15.01.2022 Vale Mr. James (Jim) Mitchell (ex Vice-Principal and Head of the Senior School at Westbourne Grammar). It is with great sadness and a deep sense of loss that we recently learnt the news of the death of Jim Mitchell. Jim first visited KH in 2009 and, in his usual manner, immediately formed a close bond with all the children and staff. Bearing in mind that in our early days all of our kids had met very few westerners Jim knew exactly how to put the kids at ease and to make su...re his visits were full of fun and laughter. He set the tone for all the wonderful future visits by the students and staff from Westbourne. Jim and Fay were great supporters of KH, both during their visits and through sponsorship, and he is remembered with great affection by everyone at KH. At the house this morning the residents and staff offered prayers and burnt incense for his soul to rest in peace. Whilst they were out on Sunday they also stopped to offer prayers and burn incense at Angkor Thom temple. On behalf of the committee, staff and residents of KH we extend our sincere condolences to Fay, Robert, Catherine and the extended family. He will be sorely missed. See more

14.01.2022 During the recent lock down in Siem Reap our kids put their time to good use and planted green beans and morning glory along with papaya trees. As you can see from the photos they are growing well - the beans and morning glory will soon be ready for eating.

10.01.2022 Recently the kids had a brand new experience playing mini golf - and they absolutely loved it. They had no idea of what to expect on arrival at the venue and were excited to see the set-up which has replicas of the Angkor Temples including Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, Bayon, Banteay Srei, Preah Vihear and the Terrace of the Elephants at the various holes - as well as lots of trees and shade. After instruction on how to hold the club, play the game and to score off they went. As can be seen by the score cards some practice is required to get their scores closer to par! Lunch at the usual pizza cafe added to a great day. We sincerely thank Richard and Yvonne, long-term supporters of KH, for their generosity in covering the costs of this outing. Thanks also to Leng for the photos.

10.01.2022 Another wonderful post from our go-to cafe in SR. Ros started there washing dishes and was fortunate to be given the opportunity to learn new skills by the owners - a great achievement.

09.01.2022 Khmer New Year 2021. Due to a Covid lockdown in place throughout Cambodia our kids and staff were not able to travel during KNY. We decided to organise a party for them with traditional Khmer games such as "leaf snatching", "sdach chong" where a group has their eyes closed and has to guess who is touching them and if you win you can order the person to dance or sing etc., also a lucky draw of a parcel with money inside. They also enjoyed lots of yummy food including Kimchi, pizza, seafood and ice cream. Leng said they all had a wonderful time as you can see by the photos. We would like to thank the Lane family for providing the funds for the party.
