25.01.2022 Partners of K & R Animal Law, Naaman Kranz and Mike Rosalky, enjoyed planting trees and meeting the animals at the amazing Little Oak Sanctuary. Among other things, the Sanctuary does an incredible job rescuing and caring for animals who would otherwise live lives of utter misery on factory farms.

25.01.2022 Great to see a Pakistan court order that a cruel zoo be closed. The animals have been rescued and will live out their lives in sanctuaries.

24.01.2022 We applaud the decision of Magistrate Clisdell of the NSW Local Court to imprison Ashley Sorenson for 2 years for helping kill and torture 21 kangaroos. In our view, Sorenson's actions were cowardly and despicable, and we consider a term of imprisonment appropriate because of the enormity of suffering Sorenson inflicted on innocent, sentient beings.

24.01.2022 Want to know how you can best help animals? Then join this event!

23.01.2022 Ag-gag laws are designed to criminalise those who expose the atrocities that occur in animal agriculture. This is because industries, and politicians who support those industries, know that if people knew the truth about how animals are treated then it would bad for business. Our view is that corporate profits can never justify the violence and brutal death inflicted on sentient beings.

21.01.2022 Carl Safina is an ecologist who studies animals' sentience (i.e. their ability to think and feel things subjectively). In this TED Talk, he gives a summary of how we know that certain species of animals are sentient. In our view, it is this sentience that places a moral obligation on humans to protect them from suffering and not exploit them for profit.

19.01.2022 Great to see Legal Aid ACT trialling this program of placing lawyers in Canberra schools to help students with legal issues with which they may require help.

18.01.2022 If you have a spare 20 minutes then we recommend watching Earthling Ed's below video where he responds to an attempt by the animal farming industry to undermine veganism.

18.01.2022 K & R Animal Law is looking forward to participating in the Monash Law Students' Society Social Justice and Equity Webinar on Animal Law tonight. The panellists will discuss a range of animal law related matters and respond to questions from students.

17.01.2022 Check out these 9 awesome things happening for animals around the world right now!

17.01.2022 A very interesting article that discusses humans' moral consideration and treatment of animals.

16.01.2022 We consider live animal export to be a vile industry that subjects animals to a prolonged, terrifying and painful death. Today, a live export ship has gone missing in typhoon conditions. Our thoughts are with the 43 crew and 5,867 cattle on board. This is another example of why we think this industry should be shut down.

14.01.2022 Farewell Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Thank you for advancing justice and equality before the law, and for inspiring so many women to achieve greatness. You have left a monumental legacy.

14.01.2022 Fantastic news from Canada where the Federal Government is investing nearly $100 million in the plant-based food industry. We think that plant and cell based animal products have the potential to create a much better world for animals as they reduce demand for animal products. It is consumers' demand for animal products that causes so much harm to animals.

13.01.2022 This is an amazing resource for those who are interested in trying, or who currently live, a cruelty-free, plant-based lifestyle.

11.01.2022 Another Melbourne Cup, another horse death. This industry callously exploits horses without regard for their welfare.

08.01.2022 Congratulations to Daniel Cung, Chair of the NSW Young Lawyers Animal Law Committee, for being chosen as the 2020 NSW Young Lawyer of the Year! Daniel has been recognised for his significant contributions to policy and law reform, and for raising the profile of animal law. We are thrilled to see so many young legal professionals taking an interest in animal rights and being recognised for their incredible efforts in protecting the most vulnerable beings in society.

08.01.2022 Horse racing: You bet they die. We're saying Nup to the Cup. We hope you will join us in boycotting this cruel event.

07.01.2022 This article debunks some of the common myths used to justify eating animals. We think it's well worth reading.

06.01.2022 If you disagree with the ACT Government giving millions of dollars a year to the horse racing industry then please sign this e petition calling for the end to territory sponsored cruelty.

06.01.2022 Not only do plant-based meats avoid animal cruelty and significantly reduce environmental degradation, they are also healthier than animal meats.

05.01.2022 Calling all animal lawyers and aspiring animal lawyers. The amazing people at The Animal Law Institute are hiring an animal lawyer! Applications close on 22 August 2020. Good luck to all interested in this very exciting role!

05.01.2022 Disagree with intensive puppy farming? Then sign this petition by Emma Hurst - Animal Justice Party MP to have it outlawed. https://www.emmahurstmp.com/petition_end_puppy_farming

05.01.2022 It's encouraging that some countries severely penalise the killing of at least some species of animals, after a Ugandan man was sentenced to 11 years' gaol for killing a gorilla. It's unfortunate that Australia is not one of those countries.

04.01.2022 3D printing of plant-based animal products will hopefully be a big step towards ending animal agriculture.

03.01.2022 Aussie Farms released footage of the slaughter of horses for pet food. The organisation may risk prosecution for doing so, despite the overwhelming majority of Australians being appalled with the slaughter of horses. In our view, one has to question the appropriateness of laws that facilitate actions that society finds morally repugnant, while criminilising those who expose those actions.

03.01.2022 It's 2020 and those who remove sentient animals from a life of brutality are criminalised. We have no doubt that this moral injustice will be reversed and one day it will be a severe criminal offence to keep animals in confinement and brutalise them for money. We commend animal activists for speaking out against the atrocities of commercialised animal exploitation, particularly when doing so can come at huge personal cost. https://www.abc.net.au//vegan-activist-lauren-mcg/12600694

02.01.2022 A NSW parliamentary committee is undertaking an inquiry into the 'Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Restrictions on Stock Animal Procedures) Bill 2019', as introduced by the Hon Mark Pearson of the Animal Justice Party. K & R Animal Law supports the Bill, which would ban mulesing in NSW and require the administration of pain relief before undertaking painful procedures such as castration, dehorning and branding. We would encourage people to consider the one page ...summary of the issues prepared by the Animal Defenders Office and to have their say by completing a quick questionnaire https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/J3DYNYT. Public consultation ends on 31 July.

02.01.2022 We're looking forward to being tonight's guests at the monthly NSW Young Lawyers Animal Law Committee meeting. The Committee does an amazing job advocating for animals and we applaud their work.

02.01.2022 Higher-order animals such as horses are sentient beings with the capacity to experience physical pain in a virtually identical manner to humans. The body of empirical evidence supporting this knowledge is regularly expanding. This week, animal welfare scientists found that when a horse is whipped, it feels pain from that whipping in the same way that humans would experience pain. If there were not enough reasons to end horse racing, this is one more.

01.01.2022 A reminder that until 31 July 2020 you can support the below Bill, which aims to improve animal welfare. Submissions can be made in a matter of minutes using the below survey.
