25.01.2022 WHERE ARE YOU?? Can you take a moment to help us out please? It’s more important now than ever that we can reach mums across Australia and provide Kangatraining... to as many people as we can in 2021. Kangatraining is a safe postnatal workout mums can do with their babies. But we’re more than that. We offer community and support. We offer a place mums can bond with their babies and make friends all while improving the fitness and function of their postnatal body. In April we plan to train 24 new Kangatraining Instructors at our Melbourne and Sydney training to bring Kangatraining back to their local area and provide this amazing program to the mums in their community. There are loads of great places all over Australia that we’d LOVE to see Kangatrainers! We already have around 100 trainers who are here to support you but we need more. So here’s how you can help. - Please comment below to let us know where you’re from. If you’re looking for a local class we can help you find one. - If you don’t think there’s a trainer in your local area please share this post to help us find one! - feel free to tag any friends who might be keen to attend classes OR become an instructor themselves! There’s currently $100 off the course fee (extended until 15 Jan) If you’d like to know more just shoot us a DM and we’ll email you an info kit. Our Instructors are trained by Women’s health physio, Midwife, Babywearing consultant and fitness professionals and come from a range of backgrounds. THIS is what your new year needs

25.01.2022 Posted @withregram @kangatrainingau Of course I can do this. I’m pregnant, not brain-damaged. My condition doesn’t change my personality. Christine Feehan . How much does opinions change about what you can and can’t do...at least people’s perception is slowly changing as they once put woman in cotton wool just because they were pregnant... . 23.01.2022 Great safety tip!!

23.01.2022 This year has been tough for many. The days all roll into one as though we’re stuck in Groundhog Day. It’s ok to feel this way. Try and do something everyday that gives you joy, whether it be an extra long shower (on your own), read a book or play your favourite music. Personally, we Kanga to feel good! It usually sets us up to enjoy the rest of the day....or at least parts of it, because let’s face it, the days are long and it’s really really hard to find things to fill ...the whole day, every day. So I challenge you to squeeze the juice out of at least 1 thing every day! Keep that sparkle going so we can all shine together at the end. 20.01.2022 I birthed both my babies via emergency c-section and I have to admit, the first time round I felt I missed out on so much. I struggled with how everything happened and I struggled with the recovery both mentally and physically. This is why I was so determined to achieve a VBAC recently with my second. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. However, I feel much better about it this time round knowing that I tried everything I could to achieve my VBAC and that the emergen...cy c-section was truly medically necessary this time round. I still had the experience of going into labour naturally, feeling my waters pop, reaching full dilation and feeling the urge to push. However, due to a few complications that were completely unpredictable, Maggie and I needed the c-section and were lucky we had such an amazing team otherwise we may not be here today to tell the tale. Although not my ideal birth, I grew my baby and I birthed my baby. Now I’m enjoying my beautiful, healthy baby after an extended hospital stay.

19.01.2022 Outdoor classes are back!!! We were a little upset with the announcement on Sunday but we’ve had time to process and now we’re excited that we have a date that we can start back with outdoor classes. There’s still a little uncertainty around restrictions within classes but we are now taking pre-bookings. As we don’t 100% know how many people we’ll be allowed in a class it will be a first come first serve basis plus a waiting list. ... Currently it’s looking like max 10 people, but babies over 12months are included in those numbers which makes it tricky. I will try my best to accommodate everyone and am happy to create more classes if the demand is there. Spots are already filling fast so don’t miss out! 14.01.2022 Parenting is hard and sometimes it’s hard to trust your instincts but so easy to question yourself. I remember spending hours scrolling through Facebook posts, blogs and articles about what my baby should or shouldn’t be doing at certain times/ages, etc. It really put doubt in my mind that I was doing things right. Thankfully I began to realise that there is no right or wrong way to do a lot of things and I began to trust my instincts. Life became so much easier (and happ...ier) once I learned to go with the flow and just do what felt right for my family. Remember, what works for one person doesn’t work for all. 13.01.2022 Posted @withregram @cope.org.au New mothers at risk of depression after childbirth, known as postpartum depression, need more than just support from friends and immediate family members, and can benefit from having a third-party outsider to listen to their worries and frustrations. That’s according to a new study from University of Singapore Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, which looked at how Singaporean mothers at risk of postpartum depression can benefit from rece...iving emotional support from other women who are mothers and who have had depression before. 10.01.2022 I’m always talking about a pelvic tuck in class... here’s a great visual by @carryingmatters A pelvic tuck will help to bring the knees up so they are sitting in that M shape - or frog squat position as I like to call it. It also helps to position their spine in a more natural curved position. Another tip to help with this is to bring the waistband a little higher so you can create more of a bucket seat for bubs to sit down into. #babywearing #pelvictuck #optimalbabywearing #optimalposition #baby #naturalparenting #fourthtrimester #bonding #bondwithyourbaby #holdthemclose #babycarriers #babywearingtips #kangaftg #kangatrainingau

07.01.2022 #repost @mother_truths I'm scared that I'm starting to forget. All the earlier incarnations of you that I thought I never could. The crawling you. The cruising you. The obsessed with pots and pans, you. The you where every other word is perfectly mispronounced.... Is motherhood just a state of constant nostalgia? Of looking back, whilst moving forward. Or do we get to stay still, for a bit, at some point? I see a photo from just a few months earlier and am floored by how much you've changed. How much we both have. How is it possible to have lived through so many different and distinct epochs in just three years. So I write them all down. In an attempt to stop that old thief called time. And hope that the words on a page are enough to capture and retain the feeling. To do it justice without romanticising. Because there's plenty I'd like to forget too. I guess the important things...stay. ----------------------------------- Words: Karen McMillan (@mother_truths) Image: O Trocatintas #kangatraining #postnatalfitness #mumsandbubsfitness #growingup #growingupfast #timeflies #babywearing #enjoythemoment #motherhood #familyfriendly #cuddles #mumtribe #village #community #fourthtrimester #bewithyourbaby #family #together #littleone

06.01.2022 This quote reminded me of something I see a lot of in the World of post natal fitness - women being pushed to get their pre body baby back quickly. 05.01.2022 April is C-Section Awareness Month. To be honest, it’s not something I would have known about except that other Kangatraining Instructors had posted about it, b...ut the more I thought about what it means to me, the more I wanted to share some of my story. I found out early in my pregnancy that I couldn’t give birth naturally. I was so upset, and felt like my body had failed me. How could I grow a baby and not be able to get it out the natural way? Why do they call it an elective caesarean, when I didn’t elect this for myself? I felt ripped off. I wanted the excitement of going in to labour - of having to get ready to go to the hospital, of not knowing when that would happen, or when my son’s birthday would be. Instead, I knew that he would be born on July 28th 2017. I had time to shower, wash my hair, and get ready (as ready as you can get to have a baby!) to go to the hospital. When we got there, I filled in a form, and burst in to tears when they asked if I was allergic to any anaesthetic - how would I know? I had never had one before. I was terrified. Jarrod and I got changed into the scrubs/gown and sat for about two hours just waiting... then they walked me in to theatre (Jarrod had to wait until the spinal anaesthetic was done before coming in). There were so many people in there, and they seemed so happy to see me. Ready to have a baby? they asked. More tears. Was I ready? Like there was some other option at this point?! The whole needle-in-the-spine bit was actually fine. So fine that I actually thought it hadn’t worked. Then my bum started feeling weird and tingly, and they helped me lay down, lifting my legs that I could no longer lift on my own (ewww). They kept touching me with ice to make sure I couldn’t feel anything. Good. Make sure 100 times, please. The anaesthetist was talking to me as they put the screen up, and kept talking to me until Jarrod was allowed to come in. He was great. I told him that he had to promise to tell me what was happening on the other side of that screen. That he wouldn’t and couldn’t gross me out - I had watched all the YouTube clips. He laughed and then told me nothing. Just kept talking to me, distracting me. I’m now grateful for that. Jarrod was in the room by this point, holding my hand and probably freaking out with me, but he seemed so calm. He always does. More tears. I was shivering uncontrollably from the anaesthetic at this point, and that was scaring me. Then old mate anaesthetist says are you ready to meet your baby? SAY WHAT NOW?! About to one minute later, they held our baby up over that screen. I didn’t even see his face, I was crying too much. I only saw his balls I said, as they took him over to the table to do their checks. They put him on my chest for skin-to-skin time, and I just kept saying oh my god and crying. I couldn’t believe he was ours. There were so many feelings that day - Friday July 28th 2017, but two that I will never forget. The first was the strange feeling when they pushed from my ribs downwards to guide the baby out (kind of like they pulled out all of my internal organs!) and the second was the feeling in this photo. The one you can’t possibly describe, but will know very well if you’ve been there before. A Caesarean Section is major abdominal surgery. It’s a painful recovery, and is most definitely NOT the easy way out. You still gave birth, you’re still a mother, and you’re still amazing. Don’t let anyone (or yourself!) tell you otherwise. Special mention to my amazing student midwife, Maddie, for following my pregnancy journey, offering her support, holding my other hand, and taking the most amazing photographs, including this one. You’re a gem. Credit ~ Former Kangatrainer Sophie Stemmer #CSectionAwarenessMonth #LifeChangingMomentRightThere

02.01.2022 Kangatraining Australia is passionate about women, their health and wellbeing, in particular Mums especially their pelvic health. We work closely with women's pelvic health physios and encourage our community to engage with their local provider. Why? For so many reasons but here is just ONE. Have you ever wondered what the "all clear" means at your six week postnatal check? READ BELOW There are MANY things providers look for to say you’re healed after having a baby.... It’s an understatement to say that your body has gone through QUITE the transformation! @bumppelvichealth and @Postpartum.PUSH have teamed up to show you WHY you may need more than ONE provider postpartum to ensure you’re healing well! OB providers usually check many different aspects of your recovery and see if you’re having any issues with. Lactation Vaginal bleeding Incision healing or problems with stitches Mood disorders like depression, OCD, anxiety, etc Uterine, bladder, bowel, or pain problems If you are having problems with the last point in the list above your provider may refer you to a pelvic floor physical therapist or a womens pelvic health physio! They specialize in the pelvic floor and delve much deeper into that aspect of your healing. Pelvic Floor physical therapists often focus on other aspects of your postpartum recovery including: Pelvic floor muscle range of motion, strength, reflex activity Scar tissue healing, Perineal or C section Bowel and bladder function: straining, retention, incontinence Pelvic pain, heaviness or pressure Pelvic organ prolapse Diastasis Recti, core strength, function & stability Postpartum sex Pelvic floor physios often take a much more detailed look at the functioning of the pelvic floor, than medical providers do prior to giving someone the ‘all clear’ to resume regular activities. OB providers and pelvic floor physios have some overlap but they have their own specific specialties - care from BOTH providers may be the best approach for your healing! Thank you so much to Lacey from Bump Pelvic Health for providing this wonderful visual and explanation. Kangatraining Australia See more

02.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW THAT YOUR BODY IS CONSIDERED POSTNATAL FOREVER AFTER HAVING A BABY?! This means it is so important to make sure the exercise you participate in for at least 2 years postpartum is postnatal safe! The trainer should be trained to safely deliver a postnatal program. It’s also ok to check with the trainer that they do have postnatal training/qualifications to deliver you a postnatal safe program as not all fitness trainers do. Why is this important?... - Your body still has all those amazing relaxin hormones running through your body that helped everything stretch to deliver your baby. This means that if you participate in unsafe activities or do too much too quickly, you could actually go backwards in your recovery or result in injury. - Prolapses among many other things is a common occurrence. - Sometimes our head is telling us we are ready from all the hormones and endorphins running through our body but our bodies aren’t quite healed enough yet. Especially our c-section Mums (remember you have had MAJOR abdominal surgery). A Woman’s Health Physio is a great place to visit around the 6 week mark and beyond to check your healing both internally and externally and make a plan for your safe return to exercise. Often our Mums get clearance at the 6 week mark without even being looked at - myself included, I was given the all clear to exercise at 6 weeks after a c-section - HOWEVER when health professionals say this they are referring to gentle exercise such as walking or Physio specific exercise, you should be waiting 12 weeks post c-section for other exercise. Did you know that Kangatraining was designed by Woman’s Health Physios and Midwifes and we are also trained by them to ensure we are postnatal safe? Our program is pelvic floor safe as well as diastasis recti (abdominal separation or DRAMS) safe. In fact, our floor work consists of exercises that help to close your abdominal separation that is a normal occurrence after having a baby. Don’t comprise on your body and your recovery! Come and try our postnatal safe program today! Our program maybe low impact but it’s definitely not a walk in the park! It’s a full body workout and a lot of fun whilst being close to your baby and meeting some new Local Mums. It’s the perfect gateway for getting back into exercise. Thank you Em at Kangatraining Padbury, Greenwood & Surrounds for the bones of this post.
