25.01.2022 We're pretty excited for Friday night to be having a feed together and getting our leadership across the mental health space before the season kicks off - along with a few laughs from Beautiful Bogan and Adelaide comedian, Marc Ryan. We can't wait!
24.01.2022 Just an FYI for our followers ... Two prescribed burns are planned near Cape Willoughby Road at Lashmar Conservation Park on Kangaroo Island, on Tuesday 13 October 2020, weather conditions permitting. The prescribed burns will start in adjacent areas, two kilometres apart, at 10.30am and are likely to be completed by 8.30pm on Tuesday 13 October. The area to be burnt is 35 hectares located along Cape Willoughby Road in the Antechamber Bay area on Kangaroo Island.... The burns are planned to protect the landscape. It will reduce bushfire risk to the Lashmar Conservation Park. Some smoke and fire activity may be observed at Lashmar Conservation Park in the days following the burns but it will be patrolled until it is safe. Cape Willoughby Road will have a partial road closure, with one lane expected to be closed to traffic. Members of the public are asked to follow the directions of fire crews if entering near the prescribed burns. The burns will be conducted by the Department for Environment and Water. The objective of prescribed burning is to reduce fuel loads to mitigate the risk of bushfire. These burns are part of a statewide program of prescribed burning planned to protect communities and assets at risk. Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice. 15.01.2022 How proud are we of our football community! Last night we made it through some tough bloke talks, shared about the hard times and how to help a mate. Enjoyed a delicious tea at Parndana, and finished up with big laughs with the beautiful bogan, Marc Ryan and yes that is a red can castle in the corner - well done fellas and thanks to the clubs and pressos for getting all the lads involved.

08.01.2022 Defibrillators. Often they are installed by organisations with good intentions - yet there is no plan for ongoing updates and no designated person in charge I ...was asked to review this one today - sad to see that the pads expired Dec 2019 - ie a year ago It's in a health care facility. Whilst it 'may' work, it's not a good look. Do me a favour. Check out YOUR nearest defibrillator and make sure that the pads and battery are in date. Similarly if you are an organisation donating an AED, please make sure there's a plan for ongoing consumables and simple things - like a dedicated AED cabinet - if it is to be installed externally. The team at HeartSafe Kangaroo Island will be reviewing known community and private AEDs on Kangaroo Island in the next couple of weeks, specifically to check expiry dates of pads, batteries and report to the organisations who have installed them But many other places - offices, businesses, health facilities and so on - may have an AED that is NOT on the registry - so do me a favour and check your workplace AED - on KI or on the mainland or wherever in the world you are.

07.01.2022 Tuesday Topic: What are we doing as a League to support the mental health and wellbeing of our members? Well first of all we are actually having a season this year!! Woohoo ... Oh and cross everything, throw that salt over your shoulder and touch wood while clutching your rabbits foot that nothing stops it But seriously we are holding a leadership dinner on Friday night 16 April where we will get to hear from Zane Kirkwood, two time Magarey medallist and a couple of ...other great blokes Jeremy Forbes and Jeremy Edwards, who have built great community programs to support tradies and others or have come through their own challenging times Breakthrough Foundation's John Mannion will be there to explain their partnership with SANFL and the Mental Health First Aid training they've delivered to 40 people on KI already Further down the track we will be looking at the AFL-SANFL endorsed Tackling Your Feelings Program With limited resources we are fully committed to each do what we can in the footy community to make sure noone slips through the cracks and that we keep an eye out for each other. If you're keen to get involved or support any of these initiatives - comment below or PM the KIFL team.
