21.01.2022 Tomorrow, weather and conditions permitting, DELWP will be conduction a burn off in the Carcoola Drive, Kangaroo Flat area. This controlled burn is expected to be around 174 heactres, and will significantly reduced the fuel load in preparation for the summer fire season. If you do live in the area, smoke may be significant, so we advise to keep all doors and windows closed, and to also close any air conditioning vents.... If you are driving anywhere near the burn area, please drive to the conditions. If driving through smoke, turn on your headlights and reduce your speed. If you wish to keep up to date with any future controlled burns in the area, be sure to check the DELWP website, and also download the vic emergency app. We will also advise if any future burns will take place.

20.01.2022 Just a reminder that a controlled burn will be starting shortly - around 10am. The fuel reduction burn is to the south of Kangaroo Flat in the vicinity of Marne track. From most parts of "the Flat" the smoke will appear to be coming from the Crusoe road area, or to the right of High street looking towards Castlemaine. The KFFB and Lockwood brigades will have crews supporting the burn.

17.01.2022 If you're planning to take the kids out with you, please remember to take them inside with you. Do not at any time leave your kids in the car, especially on hot days. Temperatures inside a car can double, sometimes even triple what it is outside. Children can become extremely distressed and traumatised. And sometimes this can also end in an even more tragic outcome.... So please, DO NOT leave children in cars.
13.01.2022 With perfect weather forecast for this weekend, we take inspiration from Harry Potter...

12.01.2022 If you're planning a burn off after clearing your property in preperation for the fire season, be sure you're doing it safely and complying with burn off rules and guidelines. Check with your local council if you require a permit, and remember to register your burn off with the Burn off notification line. And remember to keep the area clear, and always have water on stand by.... And as we get close to the Fire Danger Period, it is illegal to burn off during this period, and can also be a criminal offence. Burn off Notification Line: 1800 668 511

10.01.2022 Just a friendly little reminder that the Fire Danger Period (FDP) has now ended for the City of Greater Bendigo Municipality. And whilst we all enjoy a nice little backyard bonfire like the rest of you, PLEASE register the Burnoff. It’s not hard, takes about 2 minutes - and means that if someone does call in a fire in your backyard, that we potentially don’t have 5 or more volunteers drop what they’re doing, leave their family, or leave their workplace, to respond to you...r backyard for no real reason. Whilst you can be guaranteed that your dedicated volunteer firefighters will respond to calls for help - a small little step, like registering your fire, can prevent any unnecessary need to. Please note: local bylaws and restrictions may still exist - so please check out https://www.bendigo.vic.gov.au//Fires-burn-offs-and-permits for more information.
09.01.2022 Tomorrow, the 28th of November has been declared a day of Total Fire Ban for the Mallee, Wimmera and Northern Country fire ban districts. This includes the Bendigo area. No fires are to be lit in the open area. This includes for cooking purposes and burning off. Please remember that not adhering to the Total Fire Ban restrictions, this is classified as a criminal offence, and can result in a hefty fine or potentially a criminal conviction.... If you are unsure what rules surround a total fire band day, please visit the CFA website at www.cfa.vic.gov.au.
07.01.2022 There’s still time to donate! Maybe you’re sitting on the couch with a full belly of fish? Maybe you’re out camping by the river? Maybe you’re reading a book and sipping a nice red?... 06.01.2022 Planning a barbeque while the weather is getting warmer?? Take a look at this quick video for some helpful tips on ho to plan your barbeque before you "fire up" those burners. Check your gas bottle is in date and no leaks from any hoses or connections (warm soapy water is a good way to test this)... Make sure your oil tray is clean and no grime is present that could cause a fire. And try not to cook your barbeque under cover. This can have catastrophic consequences. These tips can save you starting a fire, and allow to enjoy these much loved aussie traditions.

04.01.2022 With summer fast approaching, it's a good time to start preparing your home and property from a bushfire threat. Maintaining your property can drastically reduce fire impacting your home. This includes:... Clearing or grass or mulch. Cleaning your gutters and pipes. Mowing your lawns. Removing any tree or shrub materials. Lowering the fuel loads around your property. Whilst doing this, also be sure to keep an eye out for those slithery creatures that lurk under rocks, old tyres or anything they can hide in. This clip will give you an idea of materials to clean around your property to keep you and your family safer this fire season.
03.01.2022 Do you have older neighbours or family members who may need a little extra help or you can check up on or help plan their Fire Escape Plans for the summer fire season?? If you answered yes, then this is a perfect time to assist these people with some guidance or simply sit down over a cuppa and help them put together a plan if a bushfire may oocur in your area,

01.01.2022 On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. Today, KFFB remembers the brave people who sacrificed their lives serving for our country. ... We also pay our respects to those who continue to serve our communities to this day. Typically of 2020, this Remembrance Day is a different one, with restrictions and a virtual service - however KFFB believed it still prudent to acknowledge and remember. 4th Lieutenant, James O’Brien, solitarily attended the Kangaroo Flat RSL Remembrance Park and Memorial this morning, laying a wreath on behalf of our brigade. Thankyou to The Petal Factory for creating a beautiful wreath for our brigade. Lest we forget. #remembranceday #cfavic #kffb
