11.01.2022 Are you looking to buy a leather product and not sure whether the product is of good leather quality or is the product even made of real leather? Here we give you some tips and images on the differences between the real deal and the faux products out there... PU or faux leather is essentially a PLASTIC. The manufacture of PVC is notoriously bad for the environment as the main components are pollutants that are released into the air. Here are 3 simple ways to check for the di...fferences: Check the surface: Genuine leather may not be 100% smooth because animal skin has natural grains and imperfections. PU leather, on the other hand, are smooth to the touch because they are manufactured that way. You can also check the leather for pores as natural and genuine leather come from real animals so the pores will be present compared to PU leather. **Leather also has imperfections as it ages, making it unique to YOU. Whatever leather goes through it can withstand the test of time and is one of the most durable materials around. PU being a plastic coated product will start to peel and show poor signs of ageing over time! Check the underside: The underside of real leather is very soft whereas the underside of faux leather is often cotton or material based. While PU leather looks genuine enough at times on the surface, careful examination of the back side can make you see how the leather part is just glued on. Check the price: PU leather wallets are usually at the lower end of the price spectrum. PU being SYNTHETIC can be manufactured in bulk. Genuine leather however goes through many more steps in the process as the tanners deal with individual pelts of leather. We would also mention the smell of leather, as traditional leather has a "natural and smooth" smell to it. However some manufacturers are tricky enough to add a "Leather scent" to their products to convince consumers they are buying the real thing....
