20.01.2022 We are off again

20.01.2022 I am using facebook to alert carers that I do NOT support Global Wildlife Support-the not for profit organisation that has recently been launched, nor The Agile... Project in Cairns Queensland. I dont take the rescinding of a reference I have written for individuals lightly, and have very good reasons in doing so with the reference I wrote in October of 2018 for Shai Ager of The Agile Project. This reference has been officially rescinded in July 2019 and sent to the Department of Environment and Science Queensland. I urge all carers to do their research and discover whether organisations that are formed to assist our wildlife are legitimate and have integrity. Our precious and unique wildlife seems to have become a tool for some organisations to use funding from well meaning people, to feather their own nests. The honest and decent people who truly are doing their very best to assist the animals and carers alike, for example Jodie Blackney of Bushfire Wildlife Rescue and Support, Nikki of Redbox Wildlife Shelter, and Rae Harvey from Wild To Free Sanctuary, are the ones who are ultimately used, abused and mistreated by those who wish to use the limelight for their own selfish rewards. Australians have been alerted by the media to this disappointing fact, since the bush fires resulted in millions of dollars of donations pouring in from people all over the world, only to find that the larger organisations are not ensuring that those who really need the assistance are receiving any money. The people who gave freely want the wildlife and wildlife carers to benefit from this much needed money, yet many are not seeing a cent of it. Obviously I do not want my name involved with any questionable organisations, and although I dare not state what I am aware of, I am trying to ensure that my reputation will not be marred by unscrupulous people.

08.01.2022 What To Do If You Find A Baby Bird The following is a quick guide to help you make the right decision when a baby bird is found. Many species of birds leave t...he nest and spend as many as 2-5 days on the ground before they can fly. This is a normal and vital part of the young birds development. While they are on the ground, the birds are cared for and protected by their parents and are taught vital life skills (finding food, identifying predators, flying). Taking these birds into captivity denies them the opportunity to learn skills they will need to survive in the wild. Unless a bird is INJURED eg broken wing open wound ect, it is essential to leave them outside to learn from their parents. Fledglings on the Ground Fledglings are typically fully feathered, with a short tail and wings. They are able to walk, hop and flap, and they may attempt short flights, but are still being cared for by the parents. If you find a fledgling, it should be left alone or at the most placed in a nearby shrub away from danger the parents of the bird are never far. Keep people and pets away so the parents will continue to care for it until it can fly. Placing fledglings back into nests is typically only a short-term solution, as they will quickly re-emerge. Moving fledglings to entirely new locations is also ineffective, as they are still dependent on their parents for survival and will quickly starve.
