20.01.2022 We have decided to cancel this years New Years Eve fireworks display. The decision was made due to the conditions forecast over the coming days. 20.01.2022 Q & A about the fires Q: Has Kangaroo Valley been completely destroyed by fire? A: No! Some areas to the west of the village were impacted by fire. The vil...lage was untouched and in fact, you will not see any burnt areas along Moss Vale Road (the main road through the valley). Q: Is it safe to visit Kangaroo Valley? A: Yes, the RFS has declared it safe for people to visit us. Our air is also clear and fresh right now! Q: Does Kangaroo Valley need your support? A: Yes! Due to the fires, the number of visitors to our area dramatically reduced, and accommodation bookings were cancelled in what is normally our busiest period. Some businesses were also impacted directly by fires. As our town relies heavily on tourism, we need your help so we can survive our upcoming quieter periods. You can support us by eating at our cafes, shopping in our shops, coming to our events and staying in our holiday homes. Don’t forget to bring your empty eskies too! We are very grateful for your support.

12.01.2022 NSW RFS Encourage Tourists to Return to the Shoalhaven In what is hopefully great news for local businesses, the NSW RFS has issued a media release to encourage... tourists to return to the region, although NPWS national parks will remain closed under 1 February 2020. Tourists should be mindful that Tallow Dam Road from the Mount Scanzi turn-off to the dam remains closed due to downed power lines and trees damaged by fire. Obviously, the same request to be vigilant for risks caused by the fire applies to residents. Local crews will continue to patrol and assist NPWS, where needed, to monitor isolated hot spots from the Currowan fire that are still active in the area. Water bombing by helicopter may still be seen in the area for more inaccessible areas. Everyone should continue to monitor Fires Near me as we are not yet half-way through summer, still in the general bush fire danger period and further bush fires are still possible. Further updates can be found on the NSW RFS website, changes in road conditions on the RMS website and Live Traffic app and check the NPWS website for further updates on national park closures.

04.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE THIS POST AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE to let people know at #KangarooValley - We're open, come visit today. #cookingforthecause Martin Dulke Chef As the ...fires across the Shoalhaven burned, the community of Kangaroo Valley stood strong and steadfast, deciding that the time for practical assistance was now. Sam Rodden, Manager at The Friendly Inn, along with a team of volunteers, spearheaded the two Kangaroo Valley community and public (Facebook) campaigns to keep residents and visitors abreast of what was happening in our beautiful #kangaroovalley. Andi Csontos, a Kangaroo Valley local and Partner with Ernst & Young, began the mammoth task of co-ordinating the community’s bushfire relief and response not only for immediate help but also for assistance over the coming weeks and months. The call went out, and the residents, (both permanent and part-time) of Kangaroo Valley responded. Amanda Grace offered The Hive (a newly established hub for community events) located in the main street of our village as a central point for Andi and her team to set up a Drop In Centre, where a dedicated team of volunteers could set about the tasks of providing counselling and emotional support, co-ordinating accommodation, meals and supplies for the displaced, receiving donations for our people and also for the wildlife of Kangaroo Valley which had been severely impacted by the drought, the heat and the fires. Volunteers have also assisted with information on government support, including legal and financial assistance. The Drop In Centre at The Hive quickly became the focal point of a community that has always banded together in times of need and gave their time, their money, their expertise and their love to those who were now struggling. And then, like a white knight on his charger, #cookingforthecause Chef Martin Dulke and his staff of VenuesLive (ANZ Stadium and Bankwest Stadium) decided to jump in the kitchen and do what they do best: Bake. The result - 1400 delicious salted chocolate brownies choc full of #olssonsalt and #pepesaya butter ready for delivery to the volunteers doing an amazing job fighting the fires on the South Coast and Southern Highlands. Martin and his partner Michelle Avis hand delivered brownies over the past weekend all over the Southern Highlands and on Monday and Tuesday, Kim Oliver (Inside Room) and Brenda Sambrook (Kangaroo Valley Olives), shared the love throughout Kangaroo Valley. First stop, our Kangaroo Valley Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade, where Brigade Captain David Smart took charge of 250 hand cut squares of oozing deliciousness to thank the tireless firefighters, SES volunteers and community members who were the front line of defence for our Kangaroo Valley. Then it was a case of visiting the Village itself - boxes of brownies were taken to The Hive - a special treat for volunteers, community and visitors to KV and then along main street - to businesses ready and open along with those visitors who have answered the call and are making their way back to our Kangaroo Valley. An afternoon tea for a visit to our RFS from Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Beazley, Officer of the Order of Australia, Queen's Counsel, Governor of the State of New South Wales in the Commonwealth of Australia, saw a table laden with delicacies, including Martin’s famous salted chocolate brownies. The effects of the fires on Kangaroo Valley are widespread - in the immediate, many homes and businesses were lost or severely damaged. Livestock, and our precious wildlife suffered loss of their numbers and habitat. As a town of 800 permanent residents, surrounded by the magnificent escarpments, our Valley is reliant on tourism as its primary source of income. Times had already been tough - during the summer months, normally our visitor accommodation venues along with our cafes and restaurants are bursting at the brim, our retail shops providing beautiful mementoes of happy times spent in Australia’s most beautiful Valley. For the more adventurous, kayaking, horse-riding and walks along the trails of our majestic bush beckon. The summer of 2019/2020 was already affected - again, the heat, the drought, the distant fires. As the fires spread, many accommodation providers notified their guests (providing full refunds) that for the time being, with resources stretched to their limit, their visit to our Valley should be postponed. The flow on effect to our food and beverage providers, our adventure activity providers and to those services and trades reliant on visitation slowed, and then came to a standstill. For a community who existence relies on this visitation and who warmly welcomes visitors to share in the beauty of the place we call home, the effect was devastating. Andi Csontos and her team continue to provide a backbone of support to those in need, seeking information, and wishing to help. For now: once the all clear came through, another call to action. Kangaroo Valley is once again #openforbusiness. We need your support - come visit, come dine, come play, come stay. Bring along your #emptyesky and stock up on local produce from eggs to jams to fudge to olives. Dine in one or more of our fabulous cafes and restaurants. Take a wander through our retail shops - and buy for yourself, your family and your friends. The aftermath has brought with it the threat of the loss of the fabric of our community. Your help will ensure Kangaroo Valley not only survives, but thrives. #kangaroovalley #shoalhaven #southcoast #stillspectacular #roadtrip2020 #emptyesky #australia #newsouthwales #bankweststadium #anzstadium #chefmartindulke Visit Shoalhaven Discover Kangaroo Valley
