Anyone who has had backyard chooks knows that they can very quickly eat all the grass and turn the place into mud/dirt if they are contained in the one spot... to avoid this our girls are moved twice a week onto a great patch of grass, and of course allowed to free-range in a massive area, which allows them so much space to move away from each other and graze. 19.01.2022 What is a pastured egg??? If any of you were wondering the difference between free range and pastured, it's the presence of grass, or pasture... in a commercial free range farm stocking densities and the lack of rotational grazing means that the chickens are scratching around on dirt compacted with their own poo. In our system and any pastured free range farm the chooks are moved regularly onto new grass. This gives them more pasture to eat, more insects to catch, and a mor...e varied, enriching and hygienic environment. What we do is hard work, it's so much more labour intensive than farming our chickens in a big shed... it costs us much more and we have so many external things to balance, like the weather... Despite the difficulties, the stress and the massive time suck that producing eggs this way means...... I'm still glad we do it. These girls have the BEST life we can give them! And I reckon you can taste the difference!

07.01.2022 So I was up early this morning to head out to the paddock to welcome 2000 new birds to the flock and discovered that some low life has stolen our egg car and water trailer. It was stolen from our driveway on our farm in Kangaroo Valley. This is a pic of our car and trailer when one of our staff got into a pickle in the paddock a few months ago. I imagine we won't see it again, however if anyone hears of a Ford Ranger hi-rider space cab that seriously smells like chickens bei...ng sold somewhere please let us know.
