23.01.2022 Hey guys just a reminder that there is no class tomorrow x
23.01.2022 Perfect morning to kanga outdoors
22.01.2022 The other day I sat with the ocean breeze on my face, the sun burning down on my skin, and the silliest grin on my face as I watched my girls jump in the ocean ...and my husband play in the sand with our toddler son. Just like any other time I’ve sat in those moments of watching my beautiful, happy family enjoying time together I thought how I wouldn’t change any of it, even the tough moments. All of those struggles were to arrive at these moments. These moments don’t just happen on some beach either. They happen at the dinner table as everyone is erupting into laughter. They happen as we all find ourselves in the yard gathering fall leaves or challenging each other to a game of hoops on the driveway court. They happen as we give our whole weekend over to cheering on the sidelines as one of them challenges themselves on the playing field. They happen in the holiday or weekend moments where we get together with others we love but don’t see as much. They’re these amazing little moments that happen over and over that remind me this is a beautiful, amazing life worth living every day, even in the messy moments. Some days I feel like I’m lost out in that ocean, drowning in the struggles and expectations that weigh me down. But moments like this are my lifeline back to the shore to remind me that my life isn’t just an unpredictable rip current. It’s also this breathtaking view that gives my soul peace and reassurance to keep pushing through the tough moments that feel like they’ll drown me. Some days I feel like I’m lost out in that ocean, drowning in the struggles and expectations that weigh me down. 16.01.2022 PANDA Week begins on Sunday 10th November. Share this post to help us get the word out. Perinatal anxiety and depression is incredibly serious, left untreated... the consequences can be devastating. Some people are surprised to learn how common an illness it is. Too many people in our communities don’t know the signs and symptoms, or where to go to get support if they’re struggling. It's time to get real about perinatal anxiety and depression. We need your help to spread this message far and wide. It's going to be a team effort! If you share our posts over PANDA Week you'll be helping us get important information to the people who need it most. We are more powerful together. Thank you all for your support! For more on PANDA Week head to www.panda.org.au.

16.01.2022 When a baby's spine ISN'T supported to curve naturally, the heavy head of baby will usually fall backwards or forwards, and that's why carriers that place a bab...y into a straight up and down position usually have large sturdy head rests to make up for this. This is a picture from my Babywearing Trainings where I'm talking about positioning and ergonomics . The head needs to be supported at all times, but not in a forceful way. So in contrast, when baby is held firmly against their caregivers chest in their NATURAL position (i.e. rounded spine, tucked pelvis, knees above bottom) they are shaped perfectly against their caregiver chest to chest where their heavy head rests safely, not falling forward or backwards, meaning there's no need for big head rests or extra support. #notshaming #simplyeducating - B r o o k e - x - P.S. tickets to my Adelaide & Sydney Babywearing Trainings will be going on sale very very soon! 13.01.2022 Yes. That’s a finger going inside a vagina. Where is it going? . Let the clinical pearls begin... . When most people get a GYN exam or well woman exam or p...ap smear- they are NOT getting the pelvic floor muscles assessed typically. It’s usually described as a health care provider examines your pelvic area. It includes your vulva and your internal reproductive organs your cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, and vagina. . But what if an underlying cause of pelvic pain or urinary issues has to do with pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, or urethral fascia, or the nerves deep near the back wall of the vagina? Is someone checking that? No. Typically not in these exams. But alas, there are people who DO assess these things (and we are training more OB/GYNs on this too because this isn’t usually taught in Med school or residencies!).... . Pelvic floor /Pelvic health therapists specialize in assessing all of the pelvic floor muscles, fascia, scars, nerves within the pelvis/vagina/rectum AND at the external pelvic area, abdomen, legs, spine, diaphragm, and more... . This image highlights a super important area that is often missed. The (random) finger is touching the OBTURATOR INTERNUS muscle. It’s a deep pelvic floor muscle. The obturator internus muscle can be a contributing cause of vaginal pain, pain with penetration, mimic bladder, abdominal pain (or refer there) and more. It’s actually a deep hip external rotator which means it actually attaches to the HIP! It can be a cause of hip or back pain or become an issue due to hip or back issues. It’s not always as simple as one muscle issue . And to get more pelvic anatomy nerdy- there are all sorts of attachments and connections to the obturator internus. So, it should get more attention. The arcus tendoneus levator ani is attached to it and that runs down to the ischial spine (and the Pudendal nerve goes through the obturator internus fascia and is also at the ischial spine) . So, has anyone touched your obturator internus (OI) lately? And, shout out to all the pelvic floor therapists who regularly assess and treat pelvuc floor dysfunction, including OI! 10.01.2022 Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness of the mental health conditions affecting mums and their families around the globe. Women of... every culture, age, income level and race can develop perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Symptoms can appear any time during pregnancy and the first 12 months after childbirth. In many countries, including Australia, 1 in 5 new mothers experience some type of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder. And many still suffer in silence. This year, amid the coronavirus pandemic, maternal health matters more than ever. COVID-19 has changed the nature of perinatal care in a number of ways, meaning women's experience of pregnancy, birth and life postpartum have been different to what they hoped or dreamed of. It's more important than ever to look out for the new parents in your life, to reach in and ensure that what's already an isolated time, isn't exacerbated by the current climate. If you're a new or expectant parent, and you're worried about your emotional and mental wellbeing, please know that effective treatments are available. A good place to start is to organise a telehealth chat with your GP. On our site, we have information about all perinatal mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression and the rare but serious postnatal psychosis. You can also prepare for the emotional and mental challenges that come with new parenthood, by signing up to our free Ready to COPE e-guide. Full of evidence-based advice and insights, the emails are timed to coincide with where you're at on your pregnancy or new parenthood journey. You can sign up here: https://www.cope.org.au/readytocope/ Please visit our site for more information here: https://www.cope.org.au/ Take care of yourselves and of one another. 08.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart we share that one of our Kanga Mums lost her firefighter husband on Thursday night in the devastating accident. Tonight, across the co...untry, our Kanga team are lighting candles to show our support to this Kanga Mum, her family, our Kangatrainer, her Kanga community and to everyone in Australia currently affected by these devastating fires. To the men and women fighting these fires, you are beyond brave and we are so thankful for what you are doing to keep our land, our animals and our people safe. Dearest Kanga Mum, if you see this, please know we are all thinking of you and your family. Our hearts are breaking. We cannot imagine what you are going through right now. We're sending you love and light. PS. Our Kanga Mums name has not yet been released, so please honour her privacy if you know who she is, and do not tag/comment with her name on this post.
05.01.2022 My tummy looks a bit like the woman in this painting. Yeh I don’t mean to brag, but this is a painting of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. It’...s a tummy with curves and bumps. It’s the same tum I’ve had as long as I can remember. And I can remember. Being about 8 years old wearing a pink frilly bikini and the bottoms sitting up perfectly over my little roll. I remember it was okay because it was ‘puppy fat’ and cute. But even then there was a crease in my skin that told me that bump was a part of me and not something that could just be erased. Then I remember as I became a teen seeing models and singers with their low low 90’s pants and being surprised that they had no tum like mine. Like, Brittany’s belly button sat smack bang in the middle of her flat stomach, whereas mine sat lower down, just above my little bump. It was from them that I thought a flat stomach was what you were meant to have. Anything else meant you were maybe just a bit fat. So I’m talking 20 years of striving for something that was impossible all along. Because most women will never achieve a flat stomach without surgery, because for most of us it’s biologically impossible. Your tum might just be as much a part of your body as your ear or your arm. Isn’t it crazy that our society can actually influence something as signifcant as this? That if Christina rocked out in the Dirrty film clip with a roll over her chaps I might have loved my own body a bit more? How can we change this so our own children don’t spend the next 20 years thinking that sit ups are going to erase part of their body? Maybe we can start by accepting our own? So why is it okay to have a round tummy and not a flat one? 1. Well biological reasons aside, none of us should have to strive toward a perfect body type that’s been created by society. It changes every few years anyways! One minute we need flat abs, the next minute we need a big booty and a hundred years ago a curvy tummy was in. Who can keep up? Easiest and best not to. 2. The design and make up of our bodies is different to men. I mean men and women both have lot of stuff in their stomach, including about 7 metres of intestines. But a woman’s reproductive system has a lot going on! Ovaries and uterus etc all take up quite a bit of room. And they’re really important too so we need extra padding to protect them. It’s actually really cool and something that should be celebrated, not banished! 3. Then there’s hormones and visceral fat stores. We store fat differently to men and have a lot more going on with hormones. Everyone is effected differently by this, which is why some women can achieve a flat stomach and others just never will. So stop fighting it. By all means focus on health and fitness. Of course! It’s so important. But what is not important is having a flat stomach. Finally, scientists once thought the Earth was flat and then they realised it was round. What a light bulb moment hey?! Similar story hereyou thought your tummy was meant to be flat. But maybe it was perfect all along.
