20.01.2022 DIASTASIS RECTI (abdominal separation) It’s not always as obvious as in this photo. There are some things you can look for that are often signs of a possible Diastasis. -loose skin -an outtie bellybutton -stretch marks... -extra skin/loose skin -doming (an alien like bulge if you lay on your back and lift your head up) Did you know women, men and kids can all have a DIastasis Recti. Did you know it’s never to late to work on closing it up. Possible side effects of having a diastasis are: -lower back pain -a pooch after you eat or all the time -poor posture -pelvic floor dysfunction -hernias Motions to avoid: -crunches -v-sits -being on all fours (gravity) -arching you’re back -any activity that stretched the abdomen further -lifting any weight (including your baby) above shoulder level Your Kangatrainer is trainer in testing for Diastasis Recti as well as leading a safe return to fitness class so you don’t have to make any adjustments to participate. Our classes are designed to be diastasis recti safe and to protect or strengthen the pelvic floor. @diastasisrehab

15.01.2022 *Tigger Warning Birth Trauma * September 6 - 12 is Birth Trauma Awareness Week. We want to acknowledge that giving birth can be a wonderful experience for mo...st families but not all...1 in 3 Australian women identify their birth as traumatic. Partners can experience birth-related trauma too. "After a 20 hour labour, which included well over an hour of pushing and 3 failed vacuum attempts, I was rushed in for an emergency caesarean under general anaesthetic as my unborn baby was distressed and it wasn’t safe to continue. It took me over 12 months to be able to tell my story without turning into a blubbering mess and I finally admitted to suffering PND. 8 years later with my second pregnancy I was booked in for a planned caesarean after the complications from my first birth - but my body had other plans and went into spontaneous labour the morning of my appointment. After arriving at the hospital and labouring in an armchair. I was told to relax and calm down as I was only in the early stages (oh how wrong that midwife was!) and had to wait for the operating theatre to open before I could have my caesarean. Once I finally got in there and they cut me open, they found that my baby was already well into the birth canal and they needed to push him back up. He was pulled out, rushed away from me, required CPR for 9 mins and I lost close to 2 litres of blood. After being told to prepare for the worst as he suffered multiple organ failure, hypoxia and more, we spent 3 long weeks in NICU. My PND started all over again. We have follow up appointments every other month, our baby has been delayed in developmental milestones and I’ve not returned to work due to being anxious about leaving him with anyone. I wish I’d spoken up more during my labour and demanded to be checked over. The outcome, no doubt would’ve been much different." Many women have a weakened pelvic floor and suffer from symptoms such as leaking urine, passing wind involuntarily, reduced sensation during sex and the list goes on. It's common. But it's not normal and not something any woman should live with without seeking help. 05.01.2022 WHAT IS KANGATRAINING? Kangatraining is a postnatal safe, full body workout during which both cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength are enhanced. All our classes are designed by woman’s health physiotherapists, midwives and babywearing consultants to look after your baby and your postnatal body, even those mums with abdominal separation. Special consideration is taken to protect the pelvic floor in all classes. Unlike traditional exercise classes, mums don’t need t...o worry about finding a babysitter or minding an unsettled baby during class as their baby is worn on them in a baby carrier and get to take part in all the fun! The best part is the gentle movements in the class usually means more often than not your little one drifts off to sleep whilst mum enjoys some self-care time and carrier cuddles all whilst keeping their little one close. As well as the physical benefits, Kangatraining also offers mums the opportunity to meet other local mums in a fun, safe, supportive, and relaxed environment. Kangatraining also boasts mum’s emotional wellbeing and promotes bonding between mum and baby. What if I don’t have my own carrier or I’ve never worn one before? No problem, we have hire carriers available and some of our outdoor classes you can use a pram. We will also help you fit your own carrier or the hire carrier. Who can Kanga? Everyone is welcome at Kanga. Mum just needs to be at least 6 weeks post vaginal birth or 12 weeks post c-section birth. Toddlers and older kids also welcome! Kanga class isn’t just for mums, everyone is welcome. If your little one doesn’t want to go up in the carrier, that is completely fine too. There is plenty of toys they can play with and we also have doll carriers available to use during the class. Perfect for mums with babies and/or toddlers. Exercise and do something for yourself whilst keeping your bub close.
