22.01.2022 Chief Health Officer Advice: Gastro outbreak There has been an increase in gastroenteritis in childcare centres - here is what you need to know to protect yours...elf, your family and our community. Gastro is highly infectious, so hygiene is particularly important. Remember: Washing hands with soap and water is the best way to prevent infection - alcohol hand sanitisers, while effective against some viruses such as coronavirus, are not effective against gastroenteritis. If someone in your household is sick, thoroughly clean and sterilise the areas where they have been sick to protect the other people in your house. Symptoms can take up to three days to develop and usually last one or two days, sometimes longer. Watch out for: Nausea Vomiting Diarrhoea Fever Abdominal pain Headache Muscle aches Symptoms can be more severe in the elderly and very young. Anyone with any of these symptoms should stay home while sick and for 48 hours after their symptoms have stopped. If symptoms persist - visit your GP.

08.01.2022 Many parents would now be aware that face masks are compulsory in all Victorian Secondary Colleges from Monday, 3 August 2020 (primary students are not required to wear masks). The expectation is that masks will be supplied by parents and worn in school. Kaniva College does have a limited supply of masks for students who are unable to purchase these masks prior to Monday. Kaniva College fully understands the limited availability of masks and will work with students to ensure ...they ahdere to the regulations. Primary students do not have to wear masks at school, however students in Year 6 who are over the age of 12 will need to wear masks when travelling to and from school, which includes when walking, riding or going on the bus. Exemptions do exist for students with conditions that prevent the wearing of a mask, however a medical certificate will be required for an exemption. In cases where masks are not able to be worn, social distancing practices will be adhered to. I would like to thank students, staff and parents in anticipation of their support with regard to this change. Ashley Munn Principal Kaniva College
