17.01.2022 In 1937, the Australian government had agreed to allow 15,000 European Jews to receive a visa and enter Australia over the span of three years. Before this, the government was hostile to the idea of Jews immigrating to the country. Only 7,000 Jews were able to receive a visa before the World War II broke out. During this time, a plan was offered to the Australian government by Dr. Issac Nachman Steinberg, to give the Australian Jews a place to live. This plan was named The Kimberley Plan. Read the article below to learn more about the plan and how it played out. https://www.jta.org/jewniverse/2012/the-kimberley-plan
02.01.2022 Jack Mirjam (furthest to the right in the picture below) immigrated to Australia from Czechoslovakia with his family in 1938. Growing up as a Jewish boy during World War II and its aftermath, he faced hardships and hate-fueled actions, all because of his religion, all because he was different. You can find out more about Jack and his story in his interview, coming your way this June.
