18.01.2022 Brad's 429 Stessco Catcher, plate boat with 50hp, also got a Max Collar last month. The Collar was installed using the Chemi/mig-weld method, with 6mm D x 125mm H external fixings. The vinyl wrap decal was removed where the Collar was positioned, but the top section left as-is. Brad would love a Waverider eventually, but he'll enjoy the 'poor man's Waverider' for now :) ... 17.01.2022 4.2m SeaJay SP REVIEW: "Dear everyone at Kapten Boat Collar, I trialled my new Collar for the first time today, and I’m delighted to report it is everything I hoped it would be, and more! At rest; very stable and steady. Underway; very sure footed, sooner on the plane, and when cornering, it felt like the boat was on rails. I could not be more impressed. ... I would also like to add, your friendly and prompt response to my queries re: fitting, it made it simple and easy to understand. You have an outstanding product, 12 out of 10 ,best money I have spent in a long time. Yours sincerely, Mick." Mick is in Cowaramup, south of Busselton, WA - and has offered to show his boat to anyone who's interested in seeing the boat up close. Contact us, and we'll put you in touch with Mick, who's not on Facebook.

16.01.2022 Wow! Starts off with 3 outboards...

15.01.2022 This 4.2m Quintrex Renegade, with the Blade hull, got a Chemi/mig-weld Boat Collar installed this week, with an additional 1.2m BC Shield. Bruce fishes a lot on his own, and wants to take his boat further offshore (out from Brisbane), so wanted more stability & safety (more flotation) and any increase to the offshore performance and handling was a bonus.

15.01.2022 Local to the Sunshine Coast and need boat trailer repairs???

14.01.2022 The award-winning & patented KAPTEN BOAT COLLARS have been stabilising boats since 2010, improving their overall performance & handling as well as comfort level; giving a drier, softer ride. The Kapten Boat Collars create a large reverse chine on the boat's hull shape when installed, which provides amazing performance & stability. To see if your boat is suitable, visit the website: www.BoatCollar.com.au, or call us today (07) 5441 3636. ... 80% of Collars are DIY installed, so we send Australia wide, as well as overseas. 13.01.2022 Haha. Happy Valentines Day this Sunday everyone!

12.01.2022 Recent 4.3m Brooker centre console fitted with over .738m3 of flotation to achieve LEVEL FLOTATION for SURVEY. They needed .70m3, so we added a touch more to make sure they got over the line. The boat had NO existing flotation, so we had to add a LOT, and essentially encased the boat in foam & a bit inside too! > 2 outside Collars > 2.3m inside Collars at gunwale... > Large Transom slab pieces on the back (which had no access inside, so was attached externally). But congrats to Scott & Josh who said the boat got through survey scruitiny no worries. If you know of anyone needing level flotation for their workboat, let 'em know we can help, and to give us a call (07) 5441 3636.

09.01.2022 Ross's 4.5m Quintrex Fishabout fwd steer received a Max Collar recently, as he wanted to add more stability and safety for his family. We wish Ross and his family all the very best fun with his 'new' boat!

08.01.2022 Len got his 5.7m Trailcraft Trailblazer cuddy cab fitted with a Chemi/mig-welded Collar recently, with a 2.4m BC Shield for added protection. He wanted the boat to be as safe & buoyant as possible for his family, when they accompany him offshore, and for more responsive, safer & more stable performance on his nearest bar (Wide Bay Bar, Qld). The boat's top gunnel beam was 2.2m before the Collar. After the Collar, the overall beam is 2.4m - still under legal width for road travel.

08.01.2022 Here's some small plastic boats we've installed Collars on, that are used as tenders to yachts. 1. Polycraft Tuff-Tender (Mini Collar; needed a few side hull hatches installed to give access) 2. Skippa (with Mini Collar & Transom Foam) 3. Walker Bay (Mini Collar) 4. Unknown make, (Max Collar)... 5. 3m Finn Spindrift catamaran (Max Collar) 6. Skippa (with Max Collar & Transom Foam) 7. Unknown with outboard pod (Max Collar) So Collars can be installed on some plastic boats - but the boat must have internal access, or be okay with the screws anchoring into the side of the boat. Most larger plastic boats are double skinned or walled, and use that concealed air chamber as buoyancy, so we don't like to compromise that chamber by fitting a Collar to it externally with mechanical fixings. The Collars can not be glued to plastic boats. If you have any questions, please ask anytime. (07)54413636.

08.01.2022 Hey Andrew Taylor spotted you in this video today! How'd you go? Catch anything? Easy to see how the Collars turned the spray down compared to other boat, too.

07.01.2022 Hope you all catch something this weekend!

07.01.2022 Stay safe out there this weekend, and have fun!

04.01.2022 We're having a long weekend this weekend (woo-hoo!) so any requests for Collar quotes will have to wait till Tuesday the 4th August :) Pat's finally got a chance to celebrate his 70th Birthday with a couple of nights away, and an offshore fishing trip planned. Hope you all have an awesome weekend! Cheers, Kapten team.... PS - photo is one from a family fishing trip on Pat's Waverider 610, a few years ago ;)

03.01.2022 Yikes. What a monster!

02.01.2022 Pressed & plate sided boats explained! Pressed boats are made from thinner alloy sheeting compared to plate boats. Due to the thin sheeting used on pressed boats, they require horizontal kinks pressed into the flat aluminium sheets (before welded to the boat) to give them strength and to prevent the aluminium sheet from warping out of shape when welded to the chine bar. ... Note* The 'chine' of a boat is the point/line where the side plate meets &/or joins to the bottom plate. Both are often welded to an aluminium extrusion bar for greater strength - known as a 'chine bar'. Most pressed boats mimic the appearance of the old wooden clinker hulls, with their timber planked sides - hence why pressed boat hulls are sometimes referred to as 'clinker hulls'. The smallest & lightest boats are made with 1.2mm sides, but most are made using 1.6mm thick alloy sheeting. Some boats that are a little thicker, say 2.6mm or 3mm, still require one or two presses on the side, often at the top or bottom of the side plate for a little extra strength. These are still referred to as a plate boat, though are on the light side. As a general rule, proper plate boats that have fully flat sides are made with 4mm thick plate, and require no kinks or presses for added strength. So, putting them in order, starting with the weakest/thinnest material to the strongest: 1. Light pressed boats start at 1.2mm thick. Usually 1.6mm. 2. Thicker pressed boats (often older) can have 2-3 chunky presses (we call them 'lugs') & can also have a kink in the side). Often around 2mm thick. 3. Plate boats (near flat sides) with 1-2 presses. Usually start at 2.6mm min thickness. 4. Plate boats with perfectly flat sides. Usually start at 4mm. No matter what your boat shape is, we've probably fitted a Collar to it, and know how to shape the Collar to suit :) If you're not sure which style your boat is, attach a photo below, and we'll help you out. Cheers, Nyomi

02.01.2022 Happy Fishing this weekend!

01.01.2022 Here's a close up look of the Max size Kapten Boat Collar just fitted to a 4.2m Quintrex Renegade. The Collar was installed using the Chemi-Mig/weld method, with optional 1.2m long BC Shields added under the required painted flat bar. The Max size Collars are 140mm wide (out from boat) x 240mm high, and offer a generous 66kgs of displaced buoyancy per meter of boat, so this boat has just gained near 277kgs of displaced buoyancy (.27m3).... For more information, please contact us on 07 54413636, or email: [email protected]. Located Nambour, Sunshine Coast, Qld. Boat Collars are available for home-installation as D.I.Y kits, and posted Australia wide & overseas, to your door.

01.01.2022 Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Years!

01.01.2022 Pat welded the full aluminium frame & trailer of this 6m x 2.4m tiny house for his daughter (who's now staying where she is and not moving). Entire frame is aluminium - built super tough and light. Much better than a caravan! Some photos were taken during the build. It's a lock-up shell, so it's great for someone to finish off the interior to their own design layout etc. Can also contact us here at Kapten Boat Collars for more info, as it's on site here in Nambour.
