22.01.2022 The Preschool room has celebrated Social Inclusion Week this week with many discussions, books and role playing scenarios about including others in our play, learning and interactions it has been a big focus of discussions during play experiences. This has involved children noticing differences between themselves and others including hair colour, eye colour, skin colour and height. With this, children and educators have discussed the importance of including others and how imp...ortant it is for us to all feel like we belong and have others supporting us. With this, we had a focus book for the week 'I'm Australian Too' by Mem Fox. This extended as one of the children said "we play with other people but need to keep safe" and another child added "yeah we need to wash our hands to keep safe." This led to reading the 'Handy The Octopus Saves The Day' by Kelly Woods Lynch. During discussions we have demonstrated together how we wash our hands properly including front and backs, in between fingers and washing our wrists. From this, we engaged in a washing the germs away experience where hands and germs were drawn into our whiteboards and the children used soap and water on a sponge to wash the germs away. This was done to support the children's understanding of how soap and water washes the germs away. The children were excited that they could see the germs actually washing away!

20.01.2022 18th November 2020 Dear Parents and Caregivers SA Health has announced that there is a state wide shut down for the next 6 days. Also announced is that whilst schools are closing, child care centres are remaining open for essential workers.... In the absence of clarity at this time as to who is deemed an essential worker, we are assuming the past definition, which is, any person who needs care for their children in order to engage in paid work. This definition may change and be clarified in the coming days however we ask families who are not using care for work related purposes to not bring your children into the Centre for Thursday, 19th, Friday 20th, Monday 23rd , and Tuesday 24th November. Dropping off and collecting children In order to ensure a high level of protection for children, Educators and families, from opening time on Thursday 19th November 2020 Children will be collected from parents from the foyer. They will be brought to the foyer for collection in the afternoon. We will not allow anyone other than children and Educators into the rooms until this lockdown has been lifted. Yours sincerely Judy Atkinson

20.01.2022 In the toddler room we have been reading the Dreamtime story How the birds got their colours. As we read the story, we discussed the colours we could see and what our favourite colours are. The children were given the opportunity to paint their own birds using the colours they had chosen. We hope to create our own bird book with all our creations.

17.01.2022 Today we gathered all the children in the service to learn about Remembrance Day. We listened to the story Lest we forget. This story is a great way to talk about why we remember the sacrifices that people have made for us. At 11am we asked the children to sit quietly to pay our respects. While we waited we listened to the Last Post song. We were very proud of all the children and how they engaged in this important experience, by listening and not talking.

17.01.2022 Sharing Is Caring The Preschool children have shown a growing interest in caring for their environment and the natural world around them. This has extended to creating a Preschool Room Nursery for the children to care for, nurture, water and continue to grow. The children experienced a beautiful interaction together with a little ladybird as it blew down from the tree onto one of the children's hands and the children were very intrigued. This led to them sharing the lady bird... with each other as they gently placed their hands next to each other hands to encourage the ladybird to move onto each other's hands. The children then found peaches from our peach tree that fell on the ground, they peeled the skin off and placed the ladybird on the peach. The children boasted with excitement as they jumped with excitement, smiled, giggled and said "look, look! I'm feeding the ladybird" and "aww, the ladybird is hungry and we are feeding him." Nature and inquiry at it's finest. How beautiful?

15.01.2022 This week in the toddler room, we have been learning to use scissors. Cutting up paper into small pieces to use in our craft corner. Most the toddlers had a try and educators were there to support them. This experience is a great way for the toddlers to learn social skills, develop strong hand muscles to help with handwriting skills and develop learning dispositions such as persistence, creativity, cooperation and enthusiasm. Some toddlers showed good problem solving skills, developing their own way to successfully cut the paper.

14.01.2022 Today the children and educators engaged with the online Facebook Live event with the amazing Peter Coombe! The children and educators sang, clapped and danced along! What a wonderful collaborative and outside the box event that we were very excited to engage in! We enjoyed some of our favourite Peter Coombe songs including 'Wash Your Face In Orange Juice.'

14.01.2022 One of our provocation tables we have examples of cave paintings done by Our Nations First Peoples. Using photographs that Mel had taken at the sacred site of Uluru for inspiration, the children were invited to do their own drawings using a chalk and black paper. Learning outcomes: 1.1, 1.4, 2.1, 4.1, 4.2, 53

12.01.2022 Today during quite time in the toddler room we got out the clay for the children to explore. Zoe said she was making a cake. She pulled small pieces off and stacked them up. Lexi said she was smooshing her clay. Flynn told us he was using the purple placemat and Alice said the clay was sticky like sticky tape. We are looking forward to seeing what amazing creations the toddlers can make using clay.

10.01.2022 Check out this great online wiggle and giggle with Rebecca. I know all our toddlers love their visit to the library and hopefully we will be back there soon, but for now join in with your children at home. Enjoy

10.01.2022 This morning in the toddler room we set up our home corner to do some cooking. The children have been working together to share the toys between each other to create some yummy food for Bri and Karen. Our home corner will help to promote sharing, language, cooperation and creativity from the children.

10.01.2022 This year we will once again be supporting the Quickest Warmth Project and creating hope parcels for those in our community and all over SA who need it. Last year we did a fantastic job and we hope this year we can do the same. We do understand that it has been a very difficult year for all Australians and so we ask if you can not fill a whole box to get your family or friends involved and create a box of hope together. There will be a list of products required in the foyer for families to take. Thank you for your support

09.01.2022 The Preschool children have enjoyed working together to keep their learning environments clean. This extended to a fun filled afternoon of cleaning all our learning resources in our Preschool room. We then cleaned all our shelves, books, stationary, walls and more! It was wonderful to see everyone engaged, the joy on their faces as they smiled, and the pride they felt as they shared "I love cleaning our toys," "can we clean everyday?" and "look at all our toys they're so clean!" The children's sense of belonging and ownership is growing more and more for their learning environments and it's wonderful to see!

07.01.2022 The Preschool room has been a hive of learning, excitement and engagement this week. Through discussions with the children, the highlights of this week have been art expression using various stationary and collage resources with the Toddler children, cutting out pictures for our Preschool Room Family Wall, independent reading and story telling (through this the children have been identifying familiar letters in books that relate to their names as well as using the illustratio...ns in the books to tell the story), and last but not least, we found a centipede! The children and educators discussed how to be safe around a centipede as they can make our bodies really sick so we decided it was safe to look at them from a distance but it is not safe to touch or stand close. An educator then safely collected the centipede in a jar and relocated it away from the centre. I wonder what next week has in store for us?

06.01.2022 This morning we received our fresh delivery of fruit and vegetables from Coopers Fresh. The children have been enjoying the extra juicy oranges, crunchy cucumbers and sweet strawberries.

06.01.2022 We have worms!! Today our worms finally arrived we were very excited. Together the toddlers and kindy children sat while Mel showed them the container the worms were in who can guess what’s in the box? Spencer guessed insects. Mel said I’ll give you a clue. There are air holes in the top so they can breathe and they like to eat our scraps? Spencer quickly said worms! Kaylee said they eat fruit and Charlie said carrots. Mel explained that we will put them into ...our worms buckets that we have prepared a while ago. We discussed exactly what the worms like to eat and what they don’t. We learned that worms will eat fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, egg shells and shredded paper! Spencer and Kaylee both said mum likes coffee! We took the container of worms outside and added them and the shredded paper to the buckets. The children were excited to see the worms. There were so many, fat ones, skinny ones, longs ones and short ones. Mel explained that some were just baby worms. We put the lid back on our worms buckets as we also learnt that they like to keep in the dark. We will continue to collect our worm friendly scraps and have also asked Naomi in the kitchen to keep her peelings as well. See more

02.01.2022 A stick is more then just a stick! Today Jess asked ‘what could we use the sticks for?’ At first Hayley, Holly and Marnie looked at Jess unsure what to say the Hayley began twirling and said ‘I’m dancing with mine’ we then all picked up a stick and began some improv dance. This intrigued Harley, Spencer and Misha they looked at sticks and declared ‘let’s make a cubby house’ ‘we need string’ another child called. We then began to construct a cubby house which was proving cha...llenging as our sticks were different lengths. Harley seeing this was not progressing as fast as he would like, showed some great flexible thinking and changed his stick into a horse on a race track. We all thought this was a wonderful idea and proceed to set up some obstacles for the horse to jump over, weave around and go through. Imagine if a stick was just a stick. See more

02.01.2022 How great is this!

02.01.2022 We have just received confirmation that as of Monday we will be reopening for all our families. If you could please email or call to confirm your attendance. We look forward to seeing you all next week :)

02.01.2022 We have been looking at animals in the toddler room as part of our room project. We have been reading The bus to the zoo and to incorporate the 8 ways of learning in the Aboriginal culture, we created a story sharing experience. We made a bus and printed off pictures of the animals that feature in the book. As each animal appeared in the story, the children were invited to find the animal and put it on the bus. As the bus begins to fill up Ayla said there’s no more room. The children helped Ayla and pointed to free space on the bus. Claudia noticed the elephant won’t fit on the bus. Charlie helped to move some animals and made room on the bus.
