25.01.2022 Guess who's turning 100 this year? On 31 March 2021 we are marking our 100th anniversary with a spectacular flypast. From 10:30am more than 60 aircraft wil...l fly in waves over Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra, culminating in a full display by the Air Force Roulettes aerobatic team. If you cannot make it on the day, you can watch it on the ABC Australia broadcast or livestream on our Facebook page, commencing at 10am local time. More details to come. Keep an eye on the 2021 events webpage for future updates: https://airforce2021.airforce.gov.au//spectacular-centenar #AusAirForce #AirForce100 #ThenNowAlways

24.01.2022 If you missed joining us on Indigenous Literacy Day, don't worry, you can rewatch the event on demand! Suitable for ages 3 - 11. --... Move, shake and sing along to a catchy melody sung by our favourite pop star, Jessica Mauboy, in Indigenous languages Tiwi and Mangarrayi plus a book reading of Yu Sabi Densdensbad? (Can you Dance?) in Kriol, by Cheryl Lardy and English by Justine Clarke. Hosted by Indigenous author and performer Gregg Dreise and TV presenter Natalie Ahmat, this event is a celebration of Indigenous language and literacy. There is even a visit from children’s author Andy Griffiths!

23.01.2022 We're in the process of reviewing our Philosophy - and to enable us to get feedback from families and community through the use of Polls and other media, I have created a Facebook Group. I'd love it if you could check in every now and then and take part if the polls, surveys etc that are up to assist us in the process.

22.01.2022 It's almost that time of the year! Today is the first day back at preschool for staff with meetings and training occurring over our two pupil free days. Our first day with children is Thursday when the Koalas group starts and then the Joeys group on Monday. Please check your email inbox as I'll be sending some information through about starting preschool - those early days. If you have any questions or concerns, please send a message on here or Seesaw or email. We're super excited about the amazing year we're going to have at preschool.

20.01.2022 We're always appreciative of donations at preschool - and here is a list of some bits and pieces that we might be able to use (although there a couple that I would need to kindly decline). Things for dress-ups and pretend play would be another area that we're often collecting items for.

20.01.2022 Today was our last day for Term 1 and on behalf of our amazing Educators, I'd like to wish all our preschoolers and their families a safe and happy Easter and holiday period. We have had such a great first term which seems to have passed us by super fast! I'd also like to say a huge 'thank you' to Miss Belinda, Miss Michelle, Miss Bec and Miss Hannah - you have been amazing throughout this term and I can't thank you enough for all the wonderful things you have done and the support that you have provided me. I love what we achieve each and every day and I wish you a safe and relaxing holiday break.

20.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a 100% chance of rain with between 30-45mm expected on Saturday. This amount of rain following an already wet few weeks ...may cause some havoc in the area. There will be swelling to the Queanbeyan River, at this time no flooding is predicted. Googong Dam is currently sitting at 87.73%. Flash flooding may occur in parts of the Queanbeyan-Palerang area and we urge everyone to be vigilant and stay away from flood water. Today and tomorrow will be the perfect opportunity to clean your gutters, downpipes and secure loose items in your yard. Doing a little can save the lot. Keep an eye on our page and the Bureau's social media and website for weather warnings should they be issued. The detailed weather forecast for Queanbeyan can be found here: http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/queanbeyan.shtml Our volunteers are prepared and ready to respond should they be required. If you need emergency assistance during storms or floods call the NSW SES on 132 500 or triple zero (000) if life threatening. Do not request help via social media

20.01.2022 Join us this NAIDOC Week to experience a series of spectacular illuminations on the National Carillon. The projections will feature artworks and designs from Ab...original and Torres Strait Islander artists participating in the AIATSIS online Indigenous Art Market. This year’s NAIDOC theme Always Was, Always Will Be reinforces the strength and resilience of First Nations Peoples to survive and thrive. The illuminations will be visible from the shores of Lake Burley Griffin and on Aspen Island throughout NAIDOC Week; only the second time in fifty years that the Carillon will come alive with colour. We encourage you to see the show in person, follow the action on our online channels and share content using the hashtag #IAMaiatsis Indigenous artworks will be available online to purchase throughout NAIDOC Week from hundreds of Indigenous artists and art centres from around Australia.

20.01.2022 Make sandwiches great again. With school only a few weeks away it’s time to get a little creative, my little Sand-Ling (sandwich dumplings) have been a hit with... my girls. If your lunchbox doesn’t fit a full sandwich, this is one way to rock it. Lots of exciting things happening with the awesome team at Vaalia- stay tuned. How does the yoghurt stay cold you might ask? I pop the bento and the yoghurt pouch in a cooler bag with an ice block. Peace out peeps #inspiredbygeorge #stuckonyou #vaalia #bentoinspo #bento #kidsbento #sandling #schoollunchbox #schoollunch #eddievedderdontignoremy283,937,837emailsok

15.01.2022 We all have a role to play in the reconciliation journey. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Australia'...s First Nation peoples. 2021 marks twenty years of Reconciliation Australia and almost three decades of Australia’s formal reconciliation process. This year's theme 'More than a word, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action. Head the RA website to read more about how you can play a part in this joint reconciliation journey. https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au//more-than-a-word-recon/ #MoreThanAWord #NRW2021

12.01.2022 This is a really interesting read and provides a great perspective about how all those little things can become a really big thing for children on the Autism Spectrum. I'm wondering also how true this is (to differing degrees) for many children at the end of their school day.

11.01.2022 Our next poll if you'd like to share your thoughts - thank you.

11.01.2022 As many of you may remember, last year's Buy Nothing Christmas event here in Queanbeyan went really well. The Queanbeyan community came together and so many peo...ple gave so generously. This year, it's on again. We are moving to a larger venue to allow for social distancing, and will be hosting the Buy Nothing Christmas at the Uniting Church on Rutledge street on Saturday 12th December. The team are now in the process of collecting donations. If you would like to contribute to the Buy Nothing Christmas event, we are collecting donations of items that are: - In giftable condition (as new or in very good condition) - Clean and undamaged - Not needing repair (our team simply don't have time to be fixing broken items sorry) If you'd like to donate items, please comment below and one of our team will be in touch with you. Please invite your friends and family to join us on the 12th for what we hope will be another great day. https://fb.me/e/3xsKoKQUN

10.01.2022 Karabar Preschool Educators, along with Educators from our other QDPA preschools, came together today for a professional development day. We spent the morning completing Child Protection refresher training by CELA (Zoom Session) to ensure that our qualifications and knowledge around child protection (children's health, safety and wellbeing) are up-to-date. Educators then spent the afternoon completed a Storytelling through Art session with Sarah from Marrawuy Journeys - Con...temporary Aboriginal Artwork around sharing the story of our Journey. We are on Ngunnawal Country and this was a wonderful opportunity for all our Educators to come together and learn. Karabar Preschool Educators and children are participating in our Ngunnawal Language Program with the support of local Indigenous consultants. We will be learning Ngunnawal language through the elements of Ngunnawal country. See more

09.01.2022 Join the Gruffalo’s Child on her adventurous mission in this magical musical adaptation of the much-loved picture book live on stage.

07.01.2022 Bluey is a huge favourite with many of the children - but do they recognise the song when played by an orchestra.

06.01.2022 During the children's early days at preschool, we will be spending time introducing a variety of new routines, concepts and topics. Following our discussions over the last two weeks about our coloured bin system and the foods we eat, we will introduce the '5 Star Food Rating System' to the children. Please see the video below for more information or visit the website.

06.01.2022 Next week is National Nutrition Week! It's also the perfect time to remind children how important veggies are for a healthy meal (Image via Nutrition Australia)

06.01.2022 Today is the last day of Term 1 for the Joeys group. It's going to be an awesome last day with lots of surprises in store for the children. Thank you to those families who were able to attend or Zoom in to our AGM last night - your support is appreciated. Just a reminder about our most recent Poll over on our Philosophy and Quality Improvement Group page - would love your feedback. Have a great day.

05.01.2022 We've come to the end of the preschool year and I'd like to say a huge thank you to some special people. Firstly to our preschoolers who were amazing, all year long; and to our preschool parents who have supported us across what has been a very different year. I would like to say a huge 'thank you' to the Educators at our preschool - Miss Belinda, Miss Nat, Miss Bec, Miss Vanessa, Miss Trina and Miss Michelle - 2020 was a year full of challenges and opportunity for creative ...approaches - and I think we nailed it! You are all amazing and I am so very thankful for the wonderful team that we have at Karabar Preschool. My next 'thank you' goes to Jill and Narelle who are based in our Administration/Business Office at Harris Park - you would have spoken to one if not both of them on the phone at some point or communicated via email. I thank them for all the work they do for all our preschools behind the scenes. So on behalf of all the Educators at Karabar Preschool, I would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season and New Year. See more

04.01.2022 Things are starting to happen in terms of 2021 for both our current preschoolers and the children that we will be coming through next year. Many of our current preschool children are starting their Orientation programs at 'big school' (in the many different forms that orientations will take this year) which is a very exciting and we can't wait to hear their stories when they return to preschool. For our 2021 children and families, we are coming to the end of our orientatio...n process, with visits finishing this week and having our Parent Information session last night via Zoom. Regardless of whether you and your child are transitioning to 'big school' or preschool, if you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your teachers at 'big school' or let us know at preschool. We do understand that this is a big step for all involved and will do our absolute best to ensure that it is a smooth and successful transition. See more

04.01.2022 The children have been learning about different types of Bush Tucker across Term 3 and Miss Bec has recently introduced us to different types of Bush Medicine (as part of her own learning journey). Thank you for sharing these wonderful pics Larry.

03.01.2022 The Minister for Education and Early Learning, Sarah Mitchell, and her department, are working to raise public awareness about the benefits of participation in early childhood education, and the professionalism and dedication of early childhood teachers and educators and their important role in children’s development through the 'Grow to Learn, Learn to Grow' campaign. We know that early childhood teachers and educators play a critical role in children’s lives and have a big... influence in the development of social and emotional skills, gross and fine motor skills, confidence and independence and, of course, early literacy and numeracy. The campaign aims to raise public awareness of these benefits and encourage greater take up and participation across the early childhood sector. Karabar Preschool received it's rating of 'Exceeding' in 2018 after going through the Assessment and Rating process and our Educators feel very proud to share their beliefs and knowledge around the importance of quality early childhood education programs and environments.
